I was gonna start the thread when the Brisbane draw comes out, but at second thought, I wanna start it a little earlier so I can send in a prayer to the draw god ;). "Dear draw god, please give Gilles good draws for 2011 :smooch: (:secret: esp. for the slams please)." Haha, hope draw god gets my msg.

So, let's all hope that Gilles can advance his ranking much during the Downunder season. :bounce: Excited that the new season will start in like 3 days.

Be back when the draw comes out, in a day or so? whenever it comes out , getting impatient......

Well, he's not looking good so far, eventhough I can't actually see him . But he had 2 serve games that he won at love and the other 2 serve games that he got broken. Still rusty? C'mon Gilles, last time he played Santi, he beat him 2 and 1. He better comes back soon or at set 2.

Giraldo played out of his skin  Everything was a winner, or a huge shot deep into the corner :o At one stage Gilles threw his hands up and said bravo, because the guy couldn't do any wrong. Just played so well...also Gilles started out trying to be too aggressive, and was making errors at the wrong times. The most annoying thing was Gilles had so many chances, but on every chance he had the guy played a flawless point. Gilles was also very annoyed from the first game on, talking to himself so much and really frustrated. A lot of that came from Giraldo's game. It was just really annoying for me to watch.

Anyway my photos from the day are in here :

Doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. :( No matter how Giraldo played, Gilles would have had a hard time winning a match when he gets in this sort of mood from first game on.

Saw this at Ayane's blog, from L'Equipe:

BRISBANE —

— F. Ra.
Lequipe (04/01/2010)

The match was moved into centre court, where I was anyway so I saw it. Gilles and Serra both didn't play well  not much to say, Ebden and Luczak seemed to combine better, whereas Gilles and Florent didn't seem to be putting the balls away and taking over the net very well. The only positive for me was how well Gilles moved in this match.

Just noticed that Gilles and Jeremy are in the double alternate list in Sydney...

...
9 Benneteau, Julien (FRA)/Gasquet, Richard (FRA) 68
10 Erlich, Jonathan (ISR)/Ram, Andy (ISR) 68
11 (OS)
12 (OS)
13 (OS)
14 (OS)
15 (WC)
16 (WC)

ALTERNATES
1 Chela, Juan Ignacio (ARG)/Garcia-Lopez, Guillermo (ESP) 71
2 Chardy, Jeremy (FRA)/Simon, Gilles (FRA) 86
...

Anyone knows what OS means? There's no quali for double, right? I'm guessing the O is organizer...
Anyhow, it will be awesome if they get in, more net practice ;).

MD single comes out later today, hope he gets a good draw, although I don't know what would be considered a good draw anymore :p. There's no top players but pretty much everyone else in the draw is very solid. So good luck Gilles. Allez.

Mix pushing and ballbashing? sounds like all-round tennis player if one can do both the same time :p.

Hopefully he gets a win or 2, or maybe 3, and why not 5. I think we would agree he can beat anyone in this draw on a good day, as much as he can lose to any one on a bad day :tape:. I can only hope that he has lots of good days coming up ;). And hopefully if he starts doing well, this place will have more buzz. It's so quiet around here these days .

And why the hell is that there's no streaming again for Sydney? Is Australia the land of blackout or what ? They have free live stream on the Auckland site. Gillou bagelled Lu in ythe first set
Hardly a surprise, Lu got wed just a month ago and spent most of the off-season in Kenya with his no-more-bride-to-be.. as of now, I wouldn't expect him to be anything more than a walking bye. I should refrain from saying it before the match is over though, considering how sensitive to all sorts of jinx from this forum Gilles seems to be.

lalaland

The match stopped at 40 all on Lu's serve, no break yet on set 2.

So Gilles will play the first match on court 5 at 11am local time and then plays the 3rd match on the same court (that's if he wins the first match... just so to not jinx him ;)).

weather reports are disastrous in australia for the next little while

Doesn't look good the rest of the week :(.
Good that Tomic/Dolgo's match also unfinished and stuck at the outside court so at least they can't play Querrey's match until that's finished. I mean, apparently, center court got dried in between rain which is always the case and gives advantage to those who got scheduled to play there.
Gilles on court 5, so even if there's a Sydney stream, I highly doubt that they will know where court 5 is.

As for Lu, most of players start their year a bit rusty, he's no exception. I won't be taking the first set into account too much, but I also don't think he came into the match completely unprepared even if he has to wed during off-season cos that would make him looks so unprofessional. It seems (by looking at the SB which is very telling as you all know :p, Gilles has been able to serve better here. He didn't lose his serve in the dbl  and he's serving a good high first serve % in this match so far (which has nothing to do with Lu since he has to be the one to put the ball in the serve box). So maybe he plays better than last week ;), which is probably not that hard to achieve.

Finally took the match 6-1 6-3. He broke 6 times but got broken twice. Serving stat not as good as R1 (68% first serve), only 55% which is about his average. 2 DF. A tourney win of 250 pts is more than a R4 180 pts, and it's not easy to get to R4 in a slam. So point-wise, I don't mind a title win. However, getting to the 2nd week of slam just sounds better though.

Wonder if there's any stream tomorrow, he should finally get to play on Center Ctr (if Querrey the #1 seed wins). I'm cheering for Querrey cos Gilles has good HtoH against Sam ;), plus Dolgo can be scary good if he's on a roll, to me Dolgo is far more dangerous. But Dolgo won first set, so we'll see who gets to play Gilles tomorrow.

The tour were in Brisbane last week, this week the Pat Rafter Arena is flooded http://twitpic.com/3p86s0/full wow . Not that long ago Australia was suffering drought, now flood. Is the weather especially wacky there or just global warming? Anyway, feel really bad for the ppl.

Oh. Dolgo beat Sam in 2. So it'll be Gilles and Dolgo. Totally irrelevent, but I was just looking at Dolgo's ATP profile, he's listed as 6" 192 lbs. 192 lbs? Seriously? I don't think so..

What I was thinking was that a SF (90 points, of which he adds 45 points to his total ranking) plus a 3rd round at AO (90 points) will give him 135 points in total to his ranking and 180 to the race. A final will give him 150 points (of which 105 will be added to his ranking) and a 1st round loss at AO will give him 10 points which adds 115 points to his ranking and 160 to the race. Of course, if he actually wins the tournament he will be making more points, but he also needs a few best of 5 set matches under his belt, which he can only get at slams and Davis cup. I think he should learn from Gasquet's and Verdasco's terrible mistake of reaching the final of a tournament before the FO last year. Both would have achieved better results at the FO otherwise I believe.

I just think that he should try to win the tournament even if there's a slam next week just because winning a tournament has a lot of pts. But of course, if he loses today or tomorrow, then he'll get to go to Melbourne early to get prepared and I'm all for that too. I rather he doesn't play a tournament before any slam, but if he does, then he should try to win it with no reserve.

Gasquet was unlucky at the draw, he was so good for 2 sets and couldn't hold up against Murray who probably knows a thing or 2 how to make his opponent ran for his money when he's tired. The outcome might have been different if it was someone else other than Murray. I don't know what's wrong with Verdasco, he had such an exhausting clay season already before Nice, there was no reason for him to play Nice at all. Here, Aussie season just starts. Gilles needs matches to get some confidence. Winning 2 lopsided matches is great for confidence, winning some tough matches may even be better, just my thought anyway.

You don't need super fast broadband, about half a meg will do, for Bet365 anyway!

Just download streamtransport (it's free) http://www.streamtransport.com/ install and copy the address of the page the streaming is on into the address bar. Set the stream playing, and the link to the stream will appear in the bottom window, just highlight it and click download. A new window pops up with the stats of the recording, when you want to stop it, just highlight the stream in this window and click stop. :) You can record more than one stream at a time, I struggle with any more than two though due to poor internet speed and tendency to get confused over which stream is which

Simon to play Troicki in Sydney final
Glenn Cullen
January 14, 2011 - 7:24PM
AAP

Gilles Simon will be looking for some Gallic revenge at the Sydney International final before he may have to prepare for one of the toughest assignments in men's tennis - beating Roger Federer at a grand slam.

The Frenchman won through to the decider at Sydney Olympic Park in a controversial match against Ernests Gulbis 7-6 (7-1) 6-0, the Latvian folding miserably in the second set where he won just three points.

Simon will play Serb Viktor Troicki, who eased through his semi-final in more regulation fashion with a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) win over German Florian Mayer.

Former world No.6 Simon, who spent half of 2010 out with a knee injury, gets the chance to put an end to Troicki's recent habit of beating Frenchmen when it matters most.

Substituted into the deciding Davis Cup final singles rubber against the French in Belgrade last month, Troicki was magnificent, capturing the match against Michael Llodra in straight sets to hand his country its first title.

Troicki also beat another Frenchman in Richard Gasquet in Sydney and had racked up impressive wins against the likes of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Jeremy Chardy in recent months.

Simon, who lost a lone singles match in the Davis Cup final, said he'd love to beat Troicki in the final but the team trophy would have been far sweeter.

"The Davis Cup is finished now," he said.

"It's a good memory for them and bad for us. That's it. Even if I win 6-0 6-0 tomorrow, it won't change anything. I prefer to win the Davis Cup."

Simon does have a 4-0 record against the Serb on tour.

Things then get even tougher for Simon at the Australian Open, after a first-round match against Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun Simon he is expected to play Federer.

"You shouldn't tell me," he said with a smile when told Federer was a likely second round opponent at Melbourne Park.

"You don't know if I want to know it."

Gulbis won just three points in the second set against Simon on Friday but was cleared by ATP supervisor Thomas Karlberg for tanking, the official accepting his reasoning that he had simply run out of gas.

Serving for the first set at 5-4, Gulbis had a horror 10th game.

Down 0-40 he hit an errant forehand to lose his service break, punctuating the moment by smashing his racquet and then handing it to a member of the crowd.

"Okay, I made three points. Bad luck. Next time I will make four," Gulbis said.

In his semi-final Troicki had just too much armoury for Mayer but admitted being on the wrong side of some beatings from Simon in the past.

"I played Gilles a few times and I never won a set against him. So definitely it's not going to be an easy match for me," said Troicki, who added he was still full of confidence after the Davis Cup triumph.

Troicki has a potentially tricky first-round Australian Open clash with Russian former world No.20 Dmitry Tursunov.

Forget's decision was partly based on his taking for granted Tipsy would be the selected opponent. Troicki's performance in the last two sets of the double match + Gilles' H2H would have probably reversed his choice if he knew beforehand Viktor was going to play.

The stream is available in atdhe.net - they just spoke with Gilles and Viktor before the match. They asked Gilles if he plans to return to the top 10 as he was number 6 two years ago and dropped due to knee problems and they spoke to Viktor about his davis cup win over France - he said it was the best moment of his career.

Sucks that bet365 won't let us watch videos without paying :(

Could someone point me in the direction of an english stream. Looks like as well it's not just that you have to subscribe looks like they put the credits towards the streams so I'm not sure how often you would have to pay. Can you still subscribe to AO through Eurosport?
