I'm sure 99% of you, haven't heard of him, but he's only 17 and he showed great tennis in Bucharest when he beat Clement in the 1st round! He was fun to watch and the crowd (who was Clement supporter at the beginning) fell in love with him! When he won he threw his shirt in the crowd and gave autographs shirtless  (I got one too  ) I'll post some pix of this young Serbian very soon! :)

Novak plays in Finland this week. As the ATP site is not really updated I only know that Novak reached the quarters by beating Leonardo Azzaro of Italy. He now plays (I think he already played) with Takao Suzuki of Japan. C'mon Novak http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/huepfend/456.gif !

here's a sweet pic of Novka that I found on Google http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/liebe/mushy.gif

I also found out that his fave player is Pete Sampras because he likes the way the American served and acted on the court. And his hobbies are football, computers and music :) .

And that he's 1.87 m tall and 70 kg. I didn't realize he's that tall when I saw him. But he is a slim boy that's true http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/liebe/em53.gif

Anyone know what this fellow's game is like?

Iza
01-02-2005, 11:26 PM
yeah, I know  let me recollect it...y'know Bucharest Open was 5 months ago....he's got pretty good groundstrokes but is sometimes inconsistent, he runs a lot after almost every ball and is basically a baseliner, but is alright at the net too. He has a good serve and serves quite a few aces (it was hard for Clement to return them) and he is a fighter and produces some extraordinary displays of commitment and will. He's quite temperamental and doesn't hesitate to throw the racquet (tho not too much) or talk to himself and easily makes himself loved by the crowd.

hope this was good enough to make an impression about Novak's game :)

I saw him at the AO and I like him. I wish him the best for 2005.
He does look a lot like Tim Henman, if you were looking at both from a distance you would not be able to tell them apart!

Here is a pic I took at the AO

Great news for Novak!
He won the challenger in San Remo yesterday and today is up to a career best 128! Unfortunately he will fall down the rankings next week as this week he should have been defending the points from Budapest last year.
However he is moving on to bigger and better things this week with the French Open Q's!

samo napred Nole!

Kristen
05-16-2005, 12:52 PM
Hey guys, there are quite a few pics of him on the san remo site (accessible from www.stevegtennis.com ). If you go to the news/photos section, there's a part which says 'eventi foto' or something... has a nice pic of him from the players party. I feel bad, thinking he's good-looking, when he's quite young  (Im 23)

smarty06
05-16-2005, 02:40 PM
im so glad he won!! good luck for the RG qualifiers...

yeah he is pretty young... he has a very sweet look to him though. and i think he would be flattered to know that girls which are a bit older than him find him good looking. some of my friends also think hes nice looking and theyre all like 21,22

Dragan
05-16-2005, 09:26 PM
Novak has been installed as the 15th seed for qualifying and he starts on tuesday morning against Glenn Weiner which should be easy, next he would probably play Feriera from Brazil and in the rd round he is seeded to meet Hidalgo from Spain. It should be a good draw for Nole! I honsetly believe that if he makes the draw proper that he can do some damage

Dragan
05-17-2005, 01:52 PM
Novak steamrolled his way past Weiner 6-2 6-3
next he faces Franco Ferriera from Brazil and if beats him he up
against Bogdanovic (would make a nice Belgrade derby) or Gicquel

Dragan
05-20-2005, 07:58 PM
Novak sailed through the qualifying without losing a set!!!!
now we have to hope he has some luck with the draw
it would be good for him to meet a fellow qualifer int he frist round
however i feel like he will play either ancic or gasquet (who he beat only a few months ago!)

Iza
05-20-2005, 09:10 PM
i hope not :scraed:

I hope he gets a good draw. Let's go Novak :woohoo: !!!

yeah he might play mario in the 1st round... he played the qualies very well ovbiously.
if he had played bogdanovic in the final round how would that make a belgrade derby??? if im not very much mistaken bogdanovic is british

Dragan
05-21-2005, 04:01 PM
Alex Bogdanovic was born in Belgrade and he moved to London 8 years ago. He is good mates with Janko and Nole

smarty06
05-22-2005, 12:52 PM
he might be born in belgrade but that doesnt exactly make him from here...he plays for the brits and he lives there. the brits consider him to be theirs which he is...nothing to do with us anymore

Natasha250688

Dragan
05-23-2005, 09:05 AM
so of course you would turn down a EU passport and keep the great SCG passport where you can travel everywhere int he world?
Because i was born in SCG and now reside elsewhere does that make me any less of a Serb?

smarty06
05-24-2005, 08:51 AM
i would def. take the EU passport but only if it means i can still get to keep the SCG passport. for sure, no question about it.
i was also born here and lived somewhere else, but now im back. it doesnt make you any less serb that you live somewhere else but i mean like jelena jankovic lives somewhere else, but she still got the passport and plays for scg. if she wanted a different passport i doubt she would not get it

Dragan
05-25-2005, 12:08 AM
Sure i agree with you, it all boils down to pride and I think Novak and Janko have a lot of that. They are real heroes after these performances

05-26-2005, 11:36 AM
I'm an instant fan now seeing this guy. He's a great talent.

Unfortunately, he's extremely nervous and having all sorts of physical problems right now because of it. He managed to win the first set 6-4 against Coria despite those problems, but he's suffering cramps already in the second set and down 1-4*.

Once he gets used to the big stage, this guy is going to be REALLY good.

Iza
05-30-2005, 04:16 PM

Iza
06-13-2005, 07:41 PM
he won his 1st q round in Wimby after Brian Baker retired at 1-1 in the 1st set. Next up is Yeu-Tzoo Wang (dunno if this is the right name  )

Dragan
06-13-2005, 10:44 PM
that will be a tricky match! Wang played well at Halle last week i believe, Novak should win and then he plays Moodie who is a better grass player, he will also want revenge for the defeat in the 3rd qualy round for AO
i believe that even if Novak loses he can still go though as a LL as Wimbledon is famous for mass withdrawlas!

Dragan
06-14-2005, 08:08 PM
Here are some pics from Novak's match today! He really played great, just need to beat Moodie now!

Dragan

My god what a match!!!! it is 2 sets all and today they play the deciding 5th set, my internet crashed so i could not follow the score, Novak's best chance has to be this set and i feel he can do it, he saved a match point in the 4th set which shows what a fighter he is!!!!!!

they play today from 1pm

i also read that if Novak loses he still may go in as a LL as most of the guys ahead of him all retired injured yesterday and so maybe there is a chance!

Dragan
06-17-2005, 12:45 PM
Nole wins the 5th set 6-3 after saving 2 match points in the 4th set
a big win and Nole shows he has a big heart!

Iza
06-18-2005, 12:13 PM
:worship: Hurray Novak! Playing all the GSs so far this year :yeah: ! Now he has the chance of getting in the 2nd Round as he plays Juan Monaco of Argentina, who is IMO not such a good grass player and Novak showed a good form. Come on, Novak :bigclap: !

Dragan
06-20-2005, 10:32 AM
Yes I canno wait, i am going to Wimbledon tomorrow and I hope to catch all matches of Novak, Janko and Ana!!!!! Novak by far has the best draw, with one win he can be just outside the top 100 but to reach the 3rd round, which is possible then he would be 80 in the world!!!! I think he can beat Monaco, then against David Ferrer anything is possible and he played him too in the Bucharest tournament!

smarty06
06-20-2005, 11:23 AM
so it looks like they are all playing on Tuesday then, apart from jelena.
i think he can do it, he has had time to adjust and ot obviously doesnt take him long to adjust seeing as he managed to qualify. i hope he does well but even if he goes out earlier than we all want i will still not be disappointed

he seems pretty mature mentally for his age, judging from that little extract in the newspaper and also from some of his previous interviews

Dragan
06-20-2005, 02:58 PM
It would be great if he can win the one match because then he would surely not need to qualify for the US Open, it i snot fair that he gets no WC whereas people like Donald YOung who is tanking it in the Junior game is getting so many WC's. I won't mention Monfils.
Jelena won today so tomorrow I will pray that Janko, Ana and Novak and also Hantuchova hahaha play ont he same court!

B92's site:

nole is the man! even though he lost to Grosjean he put up a great fight and lost 3 sets to 1. i really think he has a good attitude to his game. the commentators on our TV were saying how bad the support of serbian players has been at wimbledon despite the fact that there are so many serbs living in england. whats up you guys where are you???

i know some hard core Serbs who would have loved to come down and support Novak but the thought of queing up for 4 hours made them say no
when me and my friends were watching the match against monaco we were shouting out SRBIJA SRBIJA and mogu da ti puse Novaceeeeeeee...but that is Wimbledon in general for u not like AO FO or US where the crowd is rowdy and that is known!!!!!

smarty06
06-27-2005, 09:27 AM
yeah i guess its much easier to just show up and watch a match rather than plan it ahead and wait in que for hours

its a good thing u and ur friends at least gave him support although i have to say the second thing u were shouting is too rude.. i mean i dont know if those words are the kind of support he needs.

Iza
06-27-2005, 09:53 AM

i guess that is what happens when u hang around with grobari and delije! i have many experiences of basketball and football matches where players feed of the atmosphere of the fans, i too wanted to shout more but it just felt wrong!!!!!!! people looked at me as being a Serbian thug! For sure Aussie fans always make the best atmosphere at Wimbledon, i can't wait gfor Wimbledont o finish, it is getting boring now and i hope Novak will get back on the clay and do the business

the wimbledon fans don't get into it, it was funny because i just caught jimmy connors saying us open was he best tourney because he could always get the crowd involved whereas at wimbledon it is not the same
the ticket allocation too for wimbledon is shocking, by far the worst out of all GS! it is a shame that tennis and wimbledon is viewed as a posh sport in the UK

yeah australia definitely seems cool. its a pity its so far away id love to visit it one day.. i guess its cos the aussies give a special feel to it. all the aussies ive met have been super nice

as for damir, ive read some of his statements and interviews and no offence to you guys but he just seems mental. im sure he could be a nice guy and all but he is just too racist for my liking and seems like he forced jelena to do stuff she didnt want. like changing nationality and stuff, i mean ever since that, her game has suffered horribly, she doesnt even have a game. and some of his comment seem more fit for a person in need of mental treatment

by the way ema, i live in beograd. i was born here and all and spent a lot of my life here. wht about you? and how old are you guys anyway?

He is on the alternates list in Kitzbuehel and Los Angeles but that is 4 weeks so he'll either play quallies for an ATP tournament or he'll play a challenger.

The so no called no media exposure for Novak is shocking, not even a mention for his amazing 5 set comeback at Wimbledon in the media is sick! I have a lot of respect for people like Novak, Mario Ancic and Nadal (to some extent) who made it with very little help!

Well Dragan, being the media darling never helped Monfils, Gasquet, Young, etc. Players do better when they get there on their own. So will Novak.Gasquet wasn't a media darling for long he was soon dissed by them... to such an exagerated extent, you wouldn't have believed it  ... But it was good for him to undergo this...he's stronger because of this now... And i know what i'm talking about i was (and i'm still...) in France at that time...And he didn't got many WC he did many challengers and had to go through quallies...Monfils is a media darling though as are Young and especially Murray and i don't think it will do them any good. I'm really beginning to like Novak! Good luck to him! :yeah:

Dragan
07-07-2005, 08:36 AM
Gasquet did everything himself this year. He played the challengers (where Novak beat him in France) and won a few of them before getting his break at the Monte Carlo masters, he still qualified and reached the final in Hamburg (where Murray probably would have got a WC!)
I always thought tennis was a sport where you make it yourself, through the satellites, futures, challangers and qualifiers. I am sure as a tennis player you will respect yourself more by coming through the hard way as you leanr things. This way of getting WC for tournaments is a cheap shot! WC should be given to players who would really benefit them or are coming back from injuries like Ivanisevic at WImbledon or Kuerten, James Blake etc. Novak will dominate and Murray will be his bunny.

I knew Dule would not win against Spadea, sometimes we just dream too much like winning the lottery. Sometimes balkan people need to believe in themselves and they can win, it is a common thing with balkan people that sometimes we get ahead of ourselves in sport and already think we have won (ie football SCg-Az, basket SCG-NZ and China)
Spadea also sorted Janko in march, i think Novak needs to kick his ass

ps this Newport has to have the worst list in the world of players if the cut off was 185!
i mean some challengers have better players!

in Serbian Dj is pronounced like G, the famous Vuk Karadzic taught Serbs to spell as they would say so Michael Jordan in Serbian is written as Majkl Dzordan
the Dj and Dz are similar
so i guess for Djokovic the easiest way to prounde would be Gokovich (as in George) we have a very complex language trust me! we also have 3 different versions of C too!

Dragan

game over, Davide won, very bad performance by Novak losing to a guy who has played challengers the whole year!
i think that Novak has made some mistakes with his choice of tournaments lately since Wimbledon, he should have played some challengers to boost his ranking, now he is gonna fall out of the top 100 because of points last year, him and Janko have messed up big time!
this new coach has not helped him at all! i think he has gone a few steps back rather than forward...................

i have had enough of tennis
thank god Partizan is playing CL on Wednesday and the European Basketball Championships are coming, sport that we are good at!

awww Dragan  don't be that hard on Novak...he's till only 18 and lacks experience, sanguinetti is like 100 years old and his experience (even if not at a very high-level) mattered here. it was a close match (well that's what it seemed from the sb) but nole didn't play well the big points.
I'm only sad cos I don't think Jess got to see him
But he'll be just fine cos he's a great talent :yeah:
I'm still proud of him :smooch: he put up a fight, didn't give up

this is not the end of the world ppl
it's a loss and I'm sad for it, but it's not over

It's a match he probably should have won... but Sanguinetti is at 6-1 3-3 over Gaudio, so he must be playing pretty well.

Hopefully Novak will have better luck soon. I have no doubt he'll develop into a great player.

yeah but Novak is playing absoultely no torunaments, he will fall out of the top 100 soon and then it is going to be hard!
he did not even enter Bucharest! he was high enough to get in!
it means in 3 months he would have played 2 tournaments.....
all i will say is remember Todd Reid! made the top 100 and then where is he now!

basketball is 15th of Sep, in CG croatia is coming hehehehehehehe and they think they will be welcome!

I watched most of the first set of his qualifying match against Davide.... I was surprised he lost. Oh well. I saw him practice once too. For whatever reason he was still hanging around on Tuesday.

the reason was he really wanted to see Jess ;)

Sorry these aren't better, but my zoom isn't as good as somebody else's so they will have to do for now ;)

There will all go in the Montreal album I started, but I'll put them here anyways.

Again, sorry they aren't better :(

the reason was he really wanted to see Jess ;)

And see me, he did. lol. I would have talked to him at his third practice of the day on Tuesday, but he skipped out on me and Rebecca. Not cool, yo.

But as she alluded, I took probably about 100+ pictures of this boy, which basically quadruples the amount of pictures of him currently on the Internet. He practiced with Ljubicic at the first practice I saw, but Ivan didn't stay long, so it was basically just Novak at that one, and then I saw him practice with Ancic. I assume Novak didn't go for the third practice that day because it was around 100 degrees Fahrenheit that day, and already during the second practice, you could tell the heat was getting to both him and Mario as they took very frequent breaks. That and, he was probably petrified that I was stalking him.

So anyway, what I am trying to say is that pictures are on their way, not all 100 or so that I took, but some limited quantities. :)

Okay all the Novak pics are uploaded, I didn't upload most of them since they all ended up looking pretty much the same.

http://www.menstennisforums.com/photos/showgallery.php/ppuser/8554/cat/500

This is my first time using the MTF photo galleries, so if that isn't the right link, just yell at me. lol. They're all mixed in there, but while browsing, I labelled all my pics either Monday or Tuesday and I only saw Novak on Tuesday. He should be pretty easy to find once you find the Tuesday pics :) I was too lazy to do keywords and all that nonsense. I'm still uploading my pics from the Nadal/Robredo match, but everything else is up :)

Haha thanks :)

Just think, if Novak would have gone to his third practice on Tuesday that he had scheduled there would have been better ones because he would have been on the closest court to me instead of the far court.

My mother informed me when I got home that we have a zoom lens for our digital camera. Now, why didn't she inform me of this BEFORE I went to the tournament.
