A lot of the higher ranked doubles players played college tennis aside from the Bryans. Bhupathi went to Ole Miss, Matkowski went to UCLA, Lindstedt to Fresno St. and Pepperdine to name a few. Also, Ozone, Skupski went to LSU, not Kentucky.

02-06-2011, 05:14 PM
Kevin Anderson (Illinois) wins his hometown tourney in South Africa over Sommie Devvarman (Virginia). Great showing for former college stars in South Africa:worship:

Henry Chinaski

02-07-2011, 03:04 AM

Players from UK/Ireland/Australia and Germany look at College tennis as an option the most. I recently did a full breakdown of the nationalities of the top 125. The most were from the USA followed by Germany, then UK then Australia.

Spain and France have far more tennis players but less look at playing college tennis in the USA as an option. The amount of Brazilians and Eastern Europeans in college tennis is increasing. Texas Tech recruits primarily Brazil and Oklahoma recruits mainly Romania. Both top 20 teams

Oddly enough I have yet to see a single Argentine in college tennis. They must not promote the idea in Argentina. There are plenty of college players from Chile,Ecuador,Colombia and Brazil.

02-27-2011, 05:41 PM
Jarmere Jeninks and Alex Domijian of UVA both trying to qualify for the Dallas Challenger.

Apparently Jenkins has, after beating Klaasen 6-4 in the 3rd set.

02-28-2011, 01:53 AM
Domijan does also. Weird that they are doing this in the heart of college tennis season, but UVA can still beat naitonal title contenders without them

02-28-2011, 02:33 AM
Virginia is off until March 9th. Long break. Domijian pounded Elias 6-2 6-3. He gets Schuettler next

03-05-2011, 05:27 AM
A few college players playing Davis Cup this week. Arevalo of Tulsa playing for El Salvador and Adelnour of Illinois playing for Syria. Also Llompart of Pepperdine playing for Puerto Rico.

Jaak Poldma of Southern Cal played for Estonia. Lost to Berankis 7-6(3) 6-2 6-3

03-21-2011, 05:13 PM
Alex Donijan skipped his teams' match vs Texas in order to attempt to qualify for Miami. He is playing Reister in the 1st round.

06-07-2011, 06:56 PM
The Sacramento Future is pretty much all current college players.

Steve Johnson (USC)
Kiryl Harbatsiuk(Sacramento State)
Mitchell Frank(Virgnia) (incoming)
Daniel Kosakowski(UCLA)
Sekou Bangoura(Florida)
Dane Webb(Oklahoma) (incoming)

and several more who are former college players. And tons more in the qualies

06-11-2011, 01:27 AM
Johnson def Bester 7-5 6-4. The guy is simply on fire.

UCLA Freshman Kosakowski gets a big win over Yani as well. Actually UCLA fans if they want to be selfish should be pulling against Kosakowski. Because he said that he may go pro. If he does not go pro than UCLA will be a national title contendor next year with all the new talent coming in.

06-13-2011, 03:20 AM
Wow unbelievable result in Sacramento. Kosakowski beating Johnson.

06-18-2011, 04:06 AM
Arevalo has doen well in the Mexican futures.

06-18-2011, 08:54 AM
Do you know a guy called Bassam Beidas? He's a Lebanese born in the Britain and lived his life in Cairo and is studying in USA. He won a future and lost in the final of another one like 3 or 4 weeks ago. He jumped from being unranked to something in the top700

Yes I do. He played at Pepperdine. He graduated 2 years ago as he was not on the team last year. He has a solid #1 for Pepperdine and was consistently ranked in the 20-50 range of the college rankings. Glad to see he is doing well in the ATP so far.

Here is his Pepperdine info page (

One former college player grinding it out on the tour that has gotten no mention here is Roman Borvanov. This guy deserves a hell of a lot of respect, he is a former University of Portland player that keeps climbing in the rankings at the age of 29. 256 in the world now and he has spent most of this year in Mexico playing futures.

06-20-2011, 03:31 AM
Good call smoke. I wasn't even aware of him. That's great work done by him.

3 Venezuelan college players will be in the Venezuela future next week and of course alot in the Florida future.

06-20-2011, 01:58 PM
John Peers (Baylor) qualified and made the finals in Venezuela F4. Lost 76(10) in the 3rd.

Borvanov is the ulimate grinder. Guy plays everywhere.

06-20-2011, 06:08 PM
They added Kosakowski's 27 pts for winning the $15K Sacto Futures. He jumps to #531. When the 8 pts for the Chico Futures SF is added next time, he should be in the 490's. He's off this week, but entered a Florida Futures in the wk of 6/27. He entered but withdrew from the Pittsburgh Futures in the wk of 7/4. Maybe he'll try to qualify for the Aptos Challenger in the wk of 7/11, or maybe he even got a WC.

06-25-2011, 01:59 AM
Blaz Rola into the quarters in the Netherlands Future.

Former Tiger Clement Reix gets crushed by Gianni Mina 6-1 6-1

06-30-2011, 09:50 PM
Some interesting happenings in the Venezuelan futures. Roberto Maytin has done well. he finished the year ranked 93 in college tennis and played 4 or 5 for Baylor much of the season. Jesus Bandres has also won a few in Venezuela, he played #3 for ETSU and did not finish in the top 125. This shows that there are a lot of quality college players. Players far down the rankings or not even in the rankings can win future matches. And in Maytin's case can consistently do it.

07-05-2011, 04:15 PM
More Baylor in Venezuela - John Peers defeats teammate Maytin in the Finals of Venezuela future this past week.

07-18-2011, 11:35 AM
Lots of action this week in Atlanta,Lexingotn and Tulsa.

07-25-2011, 01:32 PM
JP Smith walkes through field to win Tulsa Futures- loses 11 games in 5 matches.
Former Badger Marek Michalicka loses in the finals of Austria Future.

07-25-2011, 04:18 PM
JP Smith was really impressive. Beat some fine players handily

07-25-2011, 05:06 PM
How about Kosakowski? He trashed no. 106 Tatsuma Ito in Los Angeles qualies 6-0 6-2. Now won against Kudla and qualified.

07-26-2011, 02:33 PM
Yeah that was also impressive. Looks like Kosakowski made the correct the decision in turning pro at this moment.

08-21-2011, 05:59 PM
Good futures results for ex-Big-10 players lately.
Moneke on fire in German clay futures, W-F-W the last three weeks.
Also, former Badger Marek Michalicka won a Slovak clay future.

08-22-2011, 02:24 AM
Michalika was always underrated while he was at Wisconsin. Good to see him doing well at the pro level now.

08-22-2011, 02:31 AM
Also Jarmere Jenkins who will likely be #2 for UVA next year defeated 3 top 200 players over the weekend (

7-5 6-0 over Zemlja
3-6 6-0 6-4 over Sugita
6-2 2-6 6-1 over Bemelmans

09-09-2011, 09:27 PM

09-24-2011, 05:50 PM
Michalicka beat Moneke in a Hungarian futures final.

10-03-2011, 06:11 PM
Dennis Lajola has now made the semis and finals of 2 consecutive futures. This is interesting and shows that some players get better after college and college helped them improve their game. The former Hawaii Rainbow Warrior was a decent college player always in the 125-100 area of the rankings, but did nothing to suggest he would breakout in the future tour. Good to see

11-23-2011, 04:28 AM
Former Washington Husky Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan won the India F10 last week. Event also included Former Alabama player Saketh Myneni and current Georgia player KU Singh

06-08-2012, 08:09 AM
All three of the University of Tennessee players that went pro last summer are now in the top 300: Rhyne Williams, Tennys Sandgren, JP Smith

06-16-2012, 04:46 AM
lots of new names appearing in futurse. Unranked players who are dangerous because they played college.

06-16-2012, 02:38 PM
the future in Florida is filled to the brim with current, recently former and future college players.

Kevin King def Redlicki 6-2 3-6 6-1. Interesting result for the ACC

06-22-2012, 06:22 PM
Sekou Bangoura trying his luck in China. Trying to avoid some tough players in the USA.

Henrique Cunha playing in Brazil. Not a very impressive week. Slipping past two ok players then having to retire.

08-12-2012, 01:22 AM
All USC Trojan final in the Aptos Challenger. Steve Johnson vs. Robert Farah

01-16-2013, 04:41 PM
