What was one poster smoking when he said that Nike was planning on dumping lots of players so that they could sign Roddick? :cuckoo: Roddick has been with Reebok for years and they just gave him his own clothing line; that's hardly a sign that he'll be leaving them for Nike anytime soon. :o

Mardy wearing Addidas. Yech.

as i am really not a big fan of nike i am glad but i'm not a big fan of adidas' mens tennis gear (they make gerat stuff for other sports esp footy but not so much for tennis their womens stuff is good though) personally i always think the best brand for tennis gear is actually reebok,

maybe mardy wearing adidas won't be that bad, almost all of the top players wear nike, and they all have the same clothes. Mardy with adidas, maybe they'll give him his own selection of clothes :)

hmmmm that is highly unlikely i think.. the remaining top players that wear adidas clothes wear the same stuff as the rest..

Well he's wearing Adidas at this thing for Rios in Chile... so, I guess it's official. Leave it to Mardy to be the only guy wearing Adidas who has long shorts:o

Well, I'm not very fond of adidas at all. I really don't like the way they dress JMG, they give him the most boring clothes (usually white and he looks so good in bold colors) and they dress all of their players the same. Nike has much more variety available for their guys.

And we need to start a petition to get rid of the knee length shorts that are starting to creep onto court. They are taking away our fun...

i dont think it matters too much, what he wears...but it just makes me sad why nike would want to dump Mardy. :S or maybe it's just Adidas that wants him ;)

Here's an article from Tennis Week, it sounds like Adidas probably offered him way more money than Nike did... I'd switch clothes for 6 figures too LOL

Fish Earns Stripes With Three-Year Adidas Deal
By Ronald Green
10/11/2004

Mardy Fish has earned his stripes — along with an attractive six-figure signing bonus. The Olympic silver medallist has signed a three-year endorsement deal with adidas that will reportedly pay him in the mid to high six-figure range annually in addition to offering performance bonuses based on tournament results and year-end ranking.

In addition to the signing bonus, the adidas deal allows Fish to wear sponsorship patches on his tennis clothes, which opens additional endorsement opportunities.

Adidas believes Fish's appeal transcends national boundaries. The 28th-ranked Fish is scheduled to travel to Marseille, France later this month to join boxer Laila Ali, daughter of former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, sprinter Maurice Green and Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe in a print and TV campaign to promote adidas clima cool cross-training shoes, according to a published report in The SportsBusiness Journal written by Liz Mullen.

"One of the most exciting things is that Mardy has been selected one of four worldwide athletes that Adidas is going to use in its international advertising campaign," John Tobias, who represents Fish at SFX Sports, told Mullen.

The 22-year-old Fish had worn Nike shoes and clothes in a four-year endorsement deal negotiated by his former management company, IMG. Nike, which generally does not allow players to wear additional corporate sponsor patches on their clothes, had the opportunity to retain Fish, but declined to match the adidas offer, Tobias said.

"Nike had the right to match any offer and the best offer was from Adidas and they opted not to match," Tobias told Mullen.

Fish plays an appealing brand of all-court tennis powered by three primary weapons: a fluid serve, lethal two-handed backhand and a penetrating volleys off both sides. Fish's commitment to conditioning and match discipline have been questioned in the past as he has yet to surpass the third round in 12 career Grand Slam appearances. An articulate player, Fish took a significant step toward erasing his image as an underachiever in important events by reaching the gold-medal match at the Olympic Games where he held a two set to one lead before succumbing to Chile's Nicolas Massu, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6.

Fish's victory over Max Mirnyi in the second match of last month's Davis Cup semifinals helped the United States reach its first Davis Cup final since 1997. Fish's Davis Cup teammates, twins Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, also wear adidas clothes and shoes.
