Well... I do think it's not exactly nice to make fun of Gasquet when SW was hit with bad news yesterday and you know it bothers him. I mean, if I found out Novak was not going to play until April, I'd be a little on edge about him too...and might slightly overreact to things that generally wouldn't get much of a reaction from me. Treading lightly on Gasquet jokes for a while wouldn't hurt...

Thanks, he might be useful if I can find some of his film reviews. :D

Basically what I need are people who were reviewing movies at the same time as Kael (I have found myself focusing on the 70s though) to kind of compare and contrast the way they saw violence in movies. I have a list of violent movies that came out during that time period and I just need a couple of critics to compare her to.

While he does make fun of the sexuality issue, you do a lot of that yourself too, so it's hard to blame him for doing something that you do as well.

That said, I love you both.

I just think he's only getting worked up because of the circumstances surrounding Gasquet at the moment. I know a lot of Gasquet fans are very on edge and very upset. Everyone had him pegged for the top 10 next year, and that certainly won't be as easy if he's missing about half the season.

Thanks Lee! Now if I could just get out of here while it was still daylight that would be ok- bring on the fog no problem. In the dark I keep seeing Stephen King monsters coming out at me  It is very strange when you can't see anything in front of you.

Fog is eerie! :scared:

I remembered one early spring foggy morning in Canada. It's worse because the fog turned to a layer of black ice on the road. My hubby, being a reckless driver, didn't slow down the car at all. There was a long stretch of road without traffic and after a curve, was a traffic light. The fog obscured the traffic light and by the time he saw the red light and there were flares set up by police, it's too late and not possible for him to stop the car, he clipped the curd a bit (and thank GOD the car didn't spin) and managed to keep the car going straight. It's lucky that other cars at the intersection noticed our car wouldn't stop and they didn't approach the intersection. Our car managed to run a red light with all policemen watching, without a scratch and no traffic ticket. I truly believed we had Guardian Angels watching over us.

Supposedly 30 pages... but what she told a classmate of mine was that most end up being anywhere from 23-30, so I'm shooting for something in the mid 20's... I'll see how it goes.

The topic I FINALLY narrowed it down to is Kael on film violence in the 1970s and comparing her opinions to those of fellow critics Simon and Canby (and a few random others). I may focus mostly on A Clockwork Orange, but will also include The Godfater II and Taxi Driver, and may add a section about the treatment of violence in war movies like The Deer Hunter.

If that doesn't get me to that page length, I don't know what will.

If that doesn't get me to that page length, I don't know what will.Nicely narrowed. You know the whole concept of violence on the screen, big and little, took a dramatic change with TV coverage of Vietnam. It was so different from the 'news reels' and propoganda films that defined WWII. We saw dead and mangled bodies...right there...on the nightly news. I think it made it all too acceptable to see on the big screen.

Some of the more recent fuss I never really understood was all the brouhaha over the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. I mean, come on, many of the 'action/adventure' films show worse. Could it be...that we all know...knew...that it (or something VERY much like it) actually happened?

Perhaps, but my people didn't review those... and it's far too late to add new movies now.

That reminds me of this summer at the USO when some little girl called me a lady. As in telling her sister, "Move! You're in that lady's way!" I was like "Oh gosh, they think I'm old."

I would if I knew what he was up to! Perhaps he's actually studying or learning something!
:haha: Wow, it's like a turning point ;) The shop counter dude called me Madame recently, and i was quite proud. Although actually, i'm not old enough to be a madame surely?!

Learning? Adam? Wow. Is this what the end of the world feels like? :p He has a big essay on, maybe he's doing that?

Exactly :D When we went over our rough drafts she was stressing how everyone needed to add some sort of context to their papers to make them understood, so I'm going to to write up a paragraph or two about the 70s in general and about Vietnam, and the militant movements in the US at the time the Weather Underground, Black Panthers etc.. and just kind of show that the culture at the time was increasingly violent which led to this change in the movies.. The MPAA changed the rating system in the 1970s too and there was a Supreme Court ruling on censorship of offensive material :D So I have plenty of stuff to throw in there.

I got call ma'am by a high school-aged tennis opponent once (in a mixed 'social' tournament I was in). Darn near floored me. He was a very polite young man (and cute too ;) ). We struck up some conversation over the course of the day...where we traded 'tips' and such (mostly me advising him)...but then... had to play him and his equally-as-young partner in the finals. Lost to them 6-4...but gave 'em one heck of a run for their money. As MY partner said...youth and speed are no match for age and treachery.

Ohhh there are a few prospects ;) One guy is in my group, yeah. He's very :hearts: indeed, a tennis lover himself no less (: And there's another guy who's so pretty i just admire d:

People laugh at ME when I say y'all... and I say it quite a bit too...

I hate having to write up lists for Christmas.. with my parents I basically just go shopping with my mom and she wraps it up... but for my grandparents etc.. coming up with a list for them is just so tedious, lol.

This year my mom stressed to my grandma to just get me giftcards. She told her the stores I wanted and stressed to her that since I have expensive taste, a larger giftcard at one store would be better than two smaller giftcards to different stores... hopefully this will turn out well this year :D
