according to many, Mahut is a hero and Gasquet a total loser. feel free to express your opinion. who will win, the hero? or the loser?

so far Gasquet leads 2-0 in H2H, and did not lost a set so far, they only played in 2007 and in Grand Slams.

Of course not, it's going to be tough and I can see Berdych choking towards the end. :(

By the way: BYE > Gasquet.

We all know Berdych tanked against Kamke to avoid Gasquet getting embarassed in R2 as well this week. ;)

so you think Gasquet has a good chance to upset Federer in Round 2, right?

Fit, mentally tough, not-so-talented Frenchman vs. Not-so-Fit, No-so-mentally tough, talented Frenchman. The result on paper is NID eh?

Nicolas will win this. And then he will make a very deep run here and get to the top 100. I just hope so so much he wins this.

No matter what Gasquet does he'll still lose, he could break Federer's right arm and he'll still lose, Gasquet's that bad.

Maybe depends a bit if Fed withdraws before.

Should be Gasquet, especially if the court isn't playing all that quick. Mahut will have to serve like a demon to keep the match tight enough to give Gasquet a chance to choke. I wonder who will the French support here? They like to cheer an underdog (partly so they can hope for a good contest), and many will remember Mahut's legendary efforts at Wimbledon this year. Just the mention of the name 'Gasquet' has people shaking their heads. :tape:

you are asking? all of the stadium will be one single Mahut cheerleader. Most people hate Richard with a passion in France, as soon as Mahut wins his first game, the crowd will be ecstatic. And if he breaks some people may even faint. On the other hand, if Gasquet starts to win, all the Centre Court will sound like a gigantic mausoleum. no applause on winners, a few on Richard's DF, some insults, and whistles in the end, as usual.

Gasquet might have a chance then, but still it's a very slight chance.

I like Gasquet but i can see why people dislike him. Mahut is clearly a hero after Wimbledon, in my opinion he is more so than Isner - sorry to divert the focus of the thread. Gonna go with Gasquet in 3, talent should prevail.

Gasquet will have more chance but I think Nicolas can pull the upset after a week off and he doesn't play doubles this time.

Honestly, I hope Roger beats Gasquet, and not because of a dislike of Gasquet, but if Roger pulls out or loses, than Nicolas would have missed an amazing opportunity for a deep run at a MS event and would get top 100 again. I don't see how anyone could actually root against Nicolas in that match. I mean, Richie can win other matches, but Nicolas, with all the bullshit he's dealt with, deserves a win like that. I'm so sad for him.

don't be so dramatic its only 35pts after all :) Mahut can clearly play till the end of the year in challengers and win many matches and ranking points.

45 points. And if he beat Federer, it would be 90 points, which would put him around 100 in the rankings. Then the draw opens up from there. So this is a huge loss, and very dramatic, as it is the difference between ATP and challenger events, and that is a huge difference. Also, he's not scheduled for the next challengers and there is only three weeks left anyway. This was his opportunity and he failed.
