I have missed this matchup, Fed in Str8s!!

Fed in two comfortable sets. Of course, I'm sure that h2h is irrelevant for some people and they will vote for Andy.

This should be a good one. I think Roddick backs himself here despite the H2H. That said, Federer in two.

Fed to make the H2H 20-2

Haven't seen a Fed/Rod match in a while. Should be a good one. Hopefully Federer can produce something magic like the last time they played in Basel :p

7-5 7-5, Federer coming out on top. Hopefully it will be a 3 setter instead.

There's always a chance Federer can tank one of the sets, to give his home crowd a really good time ;)

I love Andy but Fed. Hopefully in 3 and not straights.

I think Andy has a good shot here. A-Rod in 3.

At what point does it just become roadkill? Pigeon, turkey, is there a next level?

Gee, I thought Roddick was going to be successful in not playing against Roger in 2010, guess I was wrong.

Roger in 2.

Hmmm...this match brings back memories. Oh yeah, 'twas our Lords year 2001 when these two met for the first time, by coincidence it was also in Basel. Federer won in three tight sets, and I can say that with retrospect, it is still probably the best match they have played against each other. It was just crazy all-out shotmaking, they were playing without pressure about #1 ranking or Slam victories or legacy or any of that crap.

I think Federer will be motivated in giving Roddick a few more defeats to possibly break a few records.

1. The biggest gap between two tennis h2h.
2. The biggest gap between two tennis h2h of high rank (Both former #1's).

Fed 7-5 6-3 or something, Rod will give it his all but it wont be enough. Fed will have Duck for dinner. The match should and will produce some good tennis though

The shotmaking in Basel 2002 was pretty phenomenal too.

This isn't 2007 so Roddick will definitely have a fighting chance. That said, probably, Federer in 2.

Novak will roast either one of them on sunday so it wont matter.

Jimnik

So, they meet again where it all started. Fed's first win over A-Rod was 9 years ago - same time, same place.

The most one-sided rivalry in the history of the game. Can't believe they haven't played since the great Wimby final.

Jimnik

Random facts:

This will be the 3rd meeting on Fed's turf. They've played 6 times on Andy's turf.

Federer has prevented Roddick from winning no fewer than 8 slams:

Wimby 2003
Wimby 2004
Wimby 2005
USO 2006
AO 2007
USO 2007
AO 2009
Wimby 2009

On only 1 of those 8 occasions (AO 2009) did Fed not go on to win the slam.

Roger in his "hometown" Tournament for sure. I think Andy maybe would have had a better chance if it wasn't "Roger's Tournament".

Novak will roast either one of them on sunday so it wont matter.

While this is certainly a beautiful thing to say, I would exercise a lot of caution here. Nole has a fairly negative H2H against both Fed and Duck, and has lost his most recent encounter with each of them in 2010. Additionally, both of them are in form, as far as I can tell. Nole will have his work cut out for him no matter how you slice it.

Roger in his "hometown" Tournament for sure. I think Andy maybe would have had a better chance if it wasn't "Roger's Tournament".

Tell that to Nole last year ;).

Hopefully Andy takes it. I know Roger loves this tournament, but I think Roddick could really use a boost and I hope to see him finish the year strong and put in a good showing at the WTF hopefully.

Despite the fact that "19-2" is one of the most one-sided rivalries of Open Era, many people are going for Rod. Bizarre.

Despite the fact that "19-2" is one of the most one-sided rivalries of Open Era, many people are going for Rod. Bizarre.

And it was even more one-sided at 16-1 when Duck beat Fed in Miami in 2008. Still more one-sided was Fed's 12-0 against Soderling when Toad beat him at Roland Garros this year.

H2H, while useful to bear in mind, certainly isn't everything. I guess that a number of people here think that it's Andy's time to take another match off Federer. Right or wrong, it's not as though it's crazy for no other reason than a one-sided H2H.

There were a couple of matches where Federer blew Roddick away but mostly they played tight sets involving tiebreakers where Roddick lost and probably costed him some matches. As good as Roddick is in tiebreakers his record against Federer in the breakers is really awful.
