I thought it was a pretty entertaining match, but I am a baseline junkie. If there ever was a time to call an encouraging loss for Davydenko, it would be this one. If he gets a decent workout in the offseason, I expect him to hover around the top 20 still. Simon is in form, choked a few times, but he is one of the hardest players to beat when full with confidence. He should beat Marcel to get to the finals.

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO :bounce::yippee:

Davydenko didn't look too bad, on some points. Gilles played okay. ALLEZ! :D

So many unforced errors by Kolya mixed with a few great shots. Simon was consistent enough to win.

I expected Simon to win more easily so it's good to see Davy with some closer scorelines, find some fight again..

Nasty choking when Davy served for the 2nd set.

Good match with long rallies. No hawkeye at this tourney, very strange for a 500. Davy played a solid game followed by a miserable one, very inconsistant.
Simon held his nerves.

Um, the match was not good quality whatsoever. Davydenko basically is an error machine at this point. Good point, bad point, bad point, bad point, good point. He's all over the place and more downs than ups. He has no distinguishable skills at this point and he's obviously mentally cracked. He's really not that great of a player anymore. I wonder if he'll be back next season.

Simon wasn't great himself but he was solid enough and played well enough defense, mixed enough counterpunching offense and got the win. He'll need to pick it up tomorrow.

Davy was very up and down, but he just might be getting closer to getting into his groove. More matches and more wins should do the trick for him to regain confidence in his shots.

Simon moonballed a backhand overhead midway through the first set.

It looked deliberate too.

First time I've ever seen that done.

I only watched the first set but Simone played pretty well. Mixed things up between attack and defence to stop Davy finding his rhythm. Served wll when he was in trouble.

Davy still a mug. Hopefully he will be back at full force in January.

Simon in 3, expected. Kolya :sad: please find your form again.
Simon will probably reach the final but lose there.

Simon is too clever for robotic Denko the ball-basher :yeah: Their third match in which a player who wins a tie-break, loses the match.

I'm watching the match now. Davy was FEARLESS when Simon was serving for the 2nd set (5-6*) :eek: It was incredible to watch.
