Chela had 6-1 h2h before this, and had plenty chances in the first set. Three times ahead a break, also 0-40 on the davy serve at 5-5, then lost the tiebreak to zero and gave up in the 2nd set.

Davy played some nice stuff in the tiebreaker and few games after, but was an error machine in the first set. As per his norm recently, only 15 minutes of form in a match.

Davy's serve was horrendous. Literally 100mph first serves.

Very steady mentally in particular and one of the most significant fighters on ATP tour on the whole, has commited chain of drastic chokes in the 1st set and simply gave up in the 2nd......and all that against dreadful, absolutely mediocre for his standards Davydenko......very dim performance for Chela.

misty Ciao!!! Here I am for Niko! Yes two matches in a row, but ABOVE ALL, the victory over Chela (nikolay had - almost always - lost by him.:o:o:o

Now...close your ears...;)
**Fuck you both..Ignacio e Niko, what an ugly match...all those breaks, u.e., first set to forget.
However...good tb for Donkey and second set, as well.**

Does Davydenko's win in London last year count towards qualification for London this year?

JIC, you can't beat him everytime  H2H is still amazing.

Wasn't 100% I think, but so wasn't Kolya. Won only 38% service points, less than on return, that's just unbeliveable stat for an indoor match (and also a bit wta-like :tape:). Kolya is a good returner though...

Does Davydenko's win in London last year count towards qualification for London this year? No. It'll be impossible for Kolya to qualify this year.

I thought so, but the rules for atp world tour finals state:

The selection list for the event shall be:
a) The top seven (7) players in the South African Airways ATP Rankings as of the
Monday after the last ATP World Tour tournament of the calendar year; followed
by
b) Up to two (2) Grand Slam winners of that year, in order of their positions, positioned
between eight (8) and twenty (20) in the South African Airways ATP
Rankings as of that Monday; followed by
c) Players positioned eight (8) and below in the South African Airways ATP
Rankings as of that Monday.

And the drop date for Davydenko's ATP world tour finals victory is listed as 29 nov 2010.

So I think it does count and davydenko can still qualify this year.

It doesnt count because he is not ranked high enough. He will not qualify.

If davydenko wins valencia and paris he is almost certain to qualify...do the maths and you seeFail. Just look at the RACE-thread. Ferrer, who is #8 currently, has 3325 points. Davydenko has 1430 right now. If he wins Valencia and Paris he would gain 1500 points (assuming that he didn't play any of these events last year). Which would land him at a maximum of 2930 points - ergo, not enough to qualify.

Awful first set here. Chela pretty much outplayed Davydenko and probably should have won the set, but although he broke several times, he also lost his serve each time and also missed other opportunities to break. Davydenko was pretty bad for most of the first set but had moments where he showed good tennis, and returned Chela's serve easily. From the tiebreaker to the middle of the second set Davydenko raised his level by gaining some belief after all of Chela's missed opportunities. Overall, it wasn't a good match, too many errors, weak serving, but some occasional good shotmaking.

Davydenko simply isn't the player he once was. I still think that how he plays at the beginning of next season will be the determining factor as to where his true level is now. Right now he's about a #40 player. I don't know personally if he'll ever be back. His issues are mostly mental, so with some confidence, he should be back to winning ways.

i agree, his start to the season next year will show us if he can ever get back to where he was...

i still find myself looking back at that interview he gave a while back about how if things did not start changing soon and his confidence didnt come back it would be time to quit

if he's still thinking along those lines then he may not be back next year

its not what i think he should do i just remember what he had said

..granted that was soon after his come back and a couple months ago so he most likely has changed his way of thinking since then

Poor Chela. He played well in first set, but Davy was better.

Monstrous choke by Chela. Should have roasted him in straights. Bad for the game.
