Tomas was awful, Kamke was amazing. Nothing more to the match.

Make no mistake about the level of tennis here - Kamke played what was probably the match of his career and earned the victory. Berdych looked flat and lack explosiveness but he was outplayed by the German and never had any time on ball, a must if he is to assert his game upon an opponent.

If you are looking for the next generation of top 20 players, look no further than Kamke - he's going to be successful.

2 winners from Birdman :rolls:

Kamke got more and more uber-confident as the match went on, everything he touched turning into a winner. Always fun to watch when that happens

Berdych was just completely outplayed. Towards the end of the match it seemed like the majority of second serves just fell for the German to rifle past a return winner. Kamke deseves to further in this tournament and I think will have a good chance of doing so against Gasquet in the next round. Berdych on the other hand, needs to get his game together before Paris and London.

Kamke really trashed Berdych, playing really good, Berdych should either regroup or give his WTF place to someone other.

Whoa, Kamke was really zoning out there. He was running like Michael Chang in steroids and hitting flat stingers from everywhere around the court. As Brad Gilbert said, around five times a year your average top 100 pro has a day when he is unbeatable and Kamke had that day today.

Having said that, Berdych played like an idiot. He seems to have no Plan B at all. Chop, slice, moonball, chip & charge, do SOMETHING. Don't feed the guy pace and let him hit winners.

Great win for Kamke, he really can play some nice tennis when he is on, well done :yeah:

Yeah Kamke played great.

But I have the feeling he'll lose to Gasquet now. He seems to be pretty on and off. He beat Hajek 2 and 0 and went on to lose to Dodig in a similar way at Stockholm. Now he lost in 2 sets against Hajek here and beat Berdych and now could lose to Gasquet.
For me, he's the newcomer of the year with that win (I know others could have beaten Berdych today). But from the nominees, he's made the biggest jump and is in the top 70 next week. Dolgopolov and de Bakker are only like 20 ranks above him and they had started the year in the top 150, while Kamke started at 250 or so.

it's sad for Berdych, but i must say i'm quite happy for Richard. it's a thing to play against Kamke, and it's another one to play against Berdych.
okay, okay, Kamke played the best match of his career, but, if i remember correctly, he is a "lucky loser" which means he lost in qualies, and playing vs a "lucky loser" is better than facing Wimbledon's finalist :)

Federer dented Berdshits confidence big time after Toronto. Im starting to feel that fed ended Berdych's career, it was such a devastating loss. Berdych is so shit now. This Kamke sound like a battler, could become decent.

Why would you not want Ferrer to make London? He is one of the hardest working players on the tour. Better him go than Fernando or Tomas who are playing like shit.

Im not a Berdych fan but i dont think he's the type to brag but then again i may be wrong. Its the first time ive heard about him bragging about defeating Fed. Are you sure he was really bragging? I mean he might got excited about the win but that doesn't necessarily equate with bragging.

Berdych is a tool. He thought he was something big after defeating fed who could barely move. After this he was back in reality and losing all over the place. Serves him right.

Despicable effort from Berdych post Wimbledon this year. Rarely does a player quit on the season as emphatically as Berdych has. Will be interesting to see how he does next year.

It's actually pretty sad to hear everybody talking shit. But that's to be expected around here.

The more important thing about this match is that I just realized this Kamke has some amazing potential. Fast as hell, amazing returning and decent serve for his height. This one will rise in the rankings quickly. He's like some Ferrer that actually has some deft touch and doesn't look like a construction worker out there when he's playing tennis. One to watch for sure.

Some really bitter posts in this thread. Consistency has never been Berdych's strong point, his going through a bit of a slump now, not that surprising. Why don't we wait till next year before declaring his career over

The form Verdasco Berdych Soderling and Roddick showed us in the past few months makes me think what a bad tournament we'll have in London
I mean look at WTF 2009... from my point of view it was a great tournament
Despite of the top 4 all the other players were in great shape too... Soderling Del Potro Davydenko all of them reached SF's and even Verdasco played well in the group stage
Great matches last year but now... Soderling can loose to everyone, Verdasco and Berdych are simply awful (1-5 since US Open for the spaniard and 3-9 since Toronto MS for the czech)
I hope i will be wrong...i really do but i don't see how.
Soderling Verdasco Berdych simply suck big in the last months and i don't see this situation changing before WTF... not a good sign

2009 was NOT a good tournament. Nadal in a slump, Federer choking to Fixer and the ball basher Del Potro in finals. I am looking forward to this year's TMC, should be way more exciting.

If I`m not wrong this is the best victory of Kamke in his career. At this stage this is not a surprise to see Berdych losing this kind of matches...
