Basel R2: Federer def. Tipsarevic 6-3 6-4

Quite comfortable in the end for Federer - good power and accuracy off both wings. Looked good on serve as he didn't give Tipsarevic any break points while he converted both chances of his own. (Surprisingly he as pretty good with Hawk Eye in this match too).

Tipsarevic will be disappointed that he wasn't able to give more of a fight at the end of the day. Seemed like he was going for early winners in the rallies and as a result making a fair share of unforced errors.

Fed played his first two matches in Basel well, winning both in straight sets. Hoping the lapse of concentration that is customary as of late does not materialise in the later rounds.

Janko was definitely not willing to rally at all and just going for quite low percentage shots (and making a low percentage of them as the term implies). It felt more like 6-2, 6-2 in the sense that Federer was just gliding through his own service games and dictating the play most of the time.

Clinical, served well, good movement and shot-making. Looks promising, but last year it was comparably good at this stage of the tournament.

Federer served really well today. He made only 53% of first serves but he didn`t loose one point on his first serve.Every set he had one break point which he took and that decided the outcome

solid, not spectacular from fed. tipsarevic was disappointing, trying way too hard to hit winners. i think fed won 100% on his first serve, hasn't faced a breakpoint yet in this tournament.

FH and serve were amazing! Plays like that and he'll probably win the tournament.

Very nice, a good win from a potentially damaging opponent. Hope he faces fat dave in the final and gives him a proper workout, are they on the same side of the draw?

Haha, there was a video of an arabic commentator on one of his Shanghai matches who sounded like he was having an orgasm for every winner.

Way too god for Janko. Just in a class of his own. Should surpass Sampras at the end on the week.

good stuff from federer nice clean game, it would be great if he can break sampras record with his home tournament.
Djokovic is the only one I can see that might stop him.

Very solid match, and I nearly predicted the score :p

I'll say Federer in two. 6/4, 6/3

Yes, Tipsarevic loves to give the top guys a tough time, but it feels like his upsets are more at the slams.

Federer nowadays is pretty reliable when it comes to defeating players outside the top 4. But when he's faced with one of the top 4 his game immediately shrinks and shankerer comes to the rescue. When he's facing a top 4 his past god like performances in a tournament can't be used to judge his form.

This is because his most assiduous top-4 rival is . . . . . himself.

Very solid match, and I nearly predicted the score :p

Given the choice of predicting the match being 6-3 6-4 or 6-4 6-3, which would be more likely for Federer? I wanted to know, so I looked at his results for this year (not including Basel) and found that of the 45 matches that he's won in which he won the first set, 14 were 6-3, 8 were 6-4, 7 were 7-6, 7 were 6-2, 6 were 6-1, and 3 were 7-5. Of the 14 matches that he won the first set 6-3, he won the second set in 12: 6 were 6-4, 2 were 7-6, 2 were 6-1, 1 each were 6-3 and 6-2.

Overall Federer won 3 matches with score of 6-4 6-3 (1 was a slam so had a 3rd set also). There were 6 with 6-3 6-4 (3 were slams and also had a 3rd set).

Has anyone noticed that Tipsy is playing a doubles match today with Lu? What a strange pair!

Although it just occurred to me that they both put up major upsets over Roddick at slams this year, so maybe that's what they bonded over. Team Duck Hunter :)

GOAT was toooo good for Janko...all the Serb could do was bow down and worship his God.
