Friends, don't worry about Rafa. He achieved enough this season. Now 20 days rest and we have to focus on ATP World Tour Finals. VAMOS!!!

This was very stupid!!! 3 consecutive weeks on hard and 5 hours of playing against shity Garcia-Lopez and, even worse,Troicki

Masters 1/4's are broken and he will loose nice points

He could easily catched 190 Masters 1000 victories of Pete Sampras in Paris with few more wins here but now it will be very tough

BIG MISTAKE RAFA cause 250 tournaments will not bring you anything and you can't afford to not be ready for ATP 1000 event

he should learn from his mistakes and try to focus on big tournaments insted of pleasing fans all over the world with his presence(read: Bangkok). We all will be pleased by seeing him winning tournaments

and I'm not worried, I'm mad

Its not.. but I was looking for more when it was clear he will play bloody Bangkok  8-2 in this 3 tournaments needed to be better, but its still fine

We are at 468-100 now (what a stupid way to achieve 100th defeat) and some 5 wins in Paris and London will do the job. 473 wins will be good enough before 2011.

I can't stop thinking about this match cause Masters 1000 events are my favorite and he is always in chace of some big things in it.. really wanted that 190 Masters 1000 wins this year and amazing strike of consecutive 1/4's is broken

I agree with Joca. He should record his 500th win before 25th birthday. 472 for example in the end of 2010.

Then, he'll need only 28 wins. He can record 15 from Doha to Miami(incl.)
And then comes the clay season, where he will need only 13 wins. The chance of doing this is really good for Rafa. VAMOS!

vn01
10-14-2010, 08:52 PM
And let's talk about the weeks as no.1. Now Rafa has a lead of 4200 points ahead of Djokovic and Federer. The Swiss should be no.2 by the end of the season. So, let say that in the beginning of 2011 season Nadal will have a lead of 4000 points. He could add some more in Melbourne, but let's put it roughly and say that the lead will remain the same and the distance with Nole will also be the same-about 4000 points. So, Rafa guarantees his no.1 spot at least to Indian Wells which means 9-10 weeks more in 2011. There are 11 weeks remaining in 2010, so Rafa will have been no.1 for about 85-86 weeks by Indian Wells. There, if the difference goes close, the same is for Miami, for example- 2700-2800 points(and that is if Rafa doesn't play well and loses early in the tournaments). So 4 more weeks=90 weeks by the end of Miami. Fedmug should not play Monte Carlo and I think Rafa will win it easily. Then in Rome, Federer can make the difference to about 2000 points, again if Rafa doesn't play well and in Madrid maybe the distance will remain about 2000 points and that means 97 weeks before Roland Garros. BUT, by French Open, Rafa could actually extend his lead, or at least keep his lead to 2500-3000 points. So by Paris, Rafa should be sure that he will be no.1 in the world. Let's say it for 97 weeks. If he keeps this difference by Wimbledon, not only he will make 101 weeks, but Rafa will be in a good position to remain no.1 after Wimbledon, respectively before US Open, because he doesn't have many points to defend from Canada and Cincy. So I think that Rafa will be no.1 at least by the US Open 2011, which means about 111 weeks as ATP no.1. 65 consecutive.

I hope, you will understand what I mean. My English is not very good and I don't know whether I have explained clearly the things, I wanted to say. :)

And I am very tired because it's almost midnight in Bulgaria

Maybe I am onto something I don't know.

Rafa has won all 4 majors in the span of 2 calender years(2009-2010).

Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson have done that as well but Andre Agassi(1992-1999) and Roger Federer(2008-2010) have not done it in 2 calender years!
Don Dudge and Rod Laver has done it in 1 calendar year.

What do you think? Is it worth mentioning in your stats, born?

Ben.

Don Dudge and Rod Laver has done it in 1 calendar year.

What do you think? Is it worth mentioning in your stats, born?

I think it's worth adding :) Will do it with the next update :D

Great work again and love the new additions, we are all very grateful. Looking forward to seeing it grow.

Great job born_on_clay! :D

I just read this on Wikipedia:

The (Wimbledon) win also gave Nadal his first "Old World Triple"; the last person to achieve this was Björn Borg in 1978 ("Old World Triple" is a term given to winning the Italian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon in the same year).

Should it be added to the Hall of Fame? If the "Clay Slam" is on there, then why not this. :)

I was about to write the same. :) He shoud beat Berdych tomorrow and he'll ene 2010 with minimum 471 wins. Then, 4 wins in Doha, at least 5 in Australia, 10 in Indian Wells in Miami...so before the clay season he'll have about 490 wins AT LEAST. He will win more matches of course. :worship:

Since start of ATP Tour in 1990. I really don't think that Sampras or Andre done it,Federer wasn't

Yep, thanks.

If I'm counting correctly, Don Budge has the all-time record at 5x7+5=40 (Aus 1938 had 5 rounds, the other five had 7 rounds I think). Nadal has actually a very good chance at that if he wins this Australian Open. (he needs to win everything up to and including Wimbledon QF to tie 40 wins, and avoid walkovers. ;)) Walkovers twice deprived Federer from tying Borg's 41 win streak at a single slam.

Ben.

How to change this stat (or make more than one from it):

I think it's time to start counting Grand Slam quater finals:
6 consecutive Grand Slam quater finals - and counting

Great stuff, mate! :)

A few interesting notes: Rafa is assured as N1 until 8th of May (end of Madrid tournament which is earlier this year) if Federer doesn't play Monte Carlo. That would make 94 weeks at the top. Also if Rafa wants to be beat Agassi's 101 weeks he will need to stay as number one until the last day of Wimbledon tournament. If Rafa wants to be beat Borg's 109 weeks he needs to stay at N1 until the beginning of US Open! ;)

With the usual clay court results it is very much possible all this.

Joca, do you have a comparison of the fastest way to 200 victories in Masters (least matches played or/and age) ?

I'll leave that to Joca, but here are some other figures:

Djokovic and Murray both have 1 more loss than Nadal at 39, but 'only' 202 wins between them.

Nadal can theoretically reach 192 wins after IW, 198 after MI, 203 after MC, 208 after Madrid so he can beat Agassi's 209 by winning 2 matches in Rome (or perhaps later during the tournament). Then he would still be 24, while Agassi won his 209th match at age 35 at IW 2006. Federer is not within reach as of yet (37 wins ahead) but he is 5 years older and 37 is roughly the number of wins Nadal gets per year. It is conceivable that Nadal catches Federer before the latter retires.

Agassi had 5 Masters titles on his 25th birthday, Sampras 7 and Federer 10 (won his 11th 5 days later in Toronto). Nadal is miles ahead of any of them. In fact, Nadal has a chance to have the same number of M1000 on his 25th birthday as Agassi, Sampras and Federer combined if he wins tonight and adds the clay triple.

For Nadal, currently 39.3% of his tour wins come from M1000 events (24-25% for Sampras/Agassi, 30% for Federer). He has won 83.4% of his M1000 matches, compared to 73-77% for Federer, Sampras and Agassi.

By the way, as we often see, the pair Nadal+Federer outperforms the pair Sampras+Agassi by quite a margin in almost any aspect.

I understand the feeling, but I honestly think that this year, with 2 finals, Nadal did better than last year, with 2 semis. Personally I think stats like final winning percentages have little meaning, precisely because these stats would be improved if the player loses early rather than in a final. I think that any stat that improves as a consequence of a worse result is not an relevant stat.

I've been calculating and on paper his destiny as No1 is pretty much in his hands. He only needs to win Rome and Roland Garros then he is safe until after Wimbledon.

I've been thinking... Even if Rafa goes to No2 he can still make a record of the most weeks at No1 or No2. Born, can you confirm when would that happen assuming Federer never climbs back again to No2? A year or 2?

Here you are: ;)

As of 09.05.2011.
Player Weeks as world no.1 Weeks as no.2 TOTAL no.1 & no.2
Pete Sampras 286 90 376
Roger Federer 285 91 376
Ivan Lendl 270 60 330
Rafael Nadal 95 189 284

Don't know how about Connors but he will be around 300 as well

So Rafa needs 92 weeks in top 2 to reach 376 (assuming Federer will never be back there)
