Was Federer-Djokovic the best match so far in 2010?

In my opinion, yes. Very exciting match and high level of tennis. I don't think there have been so many great matches so far this year. Isner-Mahut was great, but the game level wasn't good enough. Same with Fognini-Monfils, which I thought was really funny to watch.

No. Not even best match of the tournament. Verdasco-Ferrer was better.

Mahut - Isner

Are you kidding? First set aside, it was absolute muggery. Novak was super clutch at the end of fifth, but only one guy playing good does not make a good match.

I didn't watch Verdasco-Ferrer, and there's lot of other good matches I haven't watched.

I think Federer played a great match, of course not 2nd and 4th set. Djokovic played great all the way. Lots of excitement. The importance of the match is also relevant, which in fact makes this the best of match of the year that I've seen.

5th set was best set this year. well 2nd best behind Isner-Mahut but that's in a different category I guess

Isner Mahut was dramatic but it was all serve..I liked this SF. (Both good game and drama)

It's the best match your average MTF member has the brain cells to remember.

It can't hardly be the best match when the loser deliberately throw the match away.

This errorfest was not even close to average. Tons of UE.

5 setter doesn't mean good. Nadal-Gulbis was very good. In Slam, I would pick Youzhny-Gasquet as the best.

Then what was the best match of year, if that wasn't?

At least the end of the fifth set was some of the best I've ever seen :)

Yes, I give it the nod over Verdasco-Ferrer because of the stakes and the fact that Nole sleighed his demons. Had he choked, which is what most people expected, and Roger won, then I would say no. But Nole manned up when so many fold.

Isner-Mahut was longest match this year and, above that, in history, but, frankly, it was most boring match I saw.

The final set was the best set of tennis this year in my opinion. The match as a whole was probably not.

Yeah pretty much.

Having said that, I dont think 2010 has produced all that many classics in total.

It was the best match this year so far, unless Nadal and Djokovic can figure out a way to top it. We all knew this match would get tougher and tougher, I'm glad it didn't end in a 5 set loss for Nole, otherwise he'd take it negatively and his self esteem might have dropped. Roddick had Federer but he let it slip at the Wimbledon 09, and that's because his return game sucked as always. This match has helped Djokovic break that ice, and now he feels he's equal if not better than Federer. He wanted the respect Nadal and Federer has, and he forced the fans to give it to him, by taking Federer out. Federer himself wasn't surprised one bit, he's always knew Djokovic potential, when he's on he can defeat anyone. Since Federer ended the year with one slam, it's better than nothing, as long as he has ATLEAST 1 slam per year, he feels like he's accomplished his year's goals.

I actually thought Verdasco-Ferrer was better.

Will the Federer-Nole match be considered a "classic?" More so than last year's Fed-Delpo final?

several light years distance from second best which was Verdasco-Ferrer

No. Roger made what..................60 errors? The second through forth sets were not high quality. So, definitely cannot say in terms of quality is was among the best. But the drama and entertainment, definitely right up there at the top.

I thought it was great...didn't watch much of it since I was busy, but I saw replays and it looked better than a lot of the Fed-Djokovic matches that we've seen. But no, I think Isner-Mahut was better, along with Youzhny-Gasquet at the AO

The stage made it good certainly, and there was a lot of energy and excitement.

It's been a monumentally shit year, and this was not the best match this year. 1st & 5th sets were good, but from what I saw of it, Verdasco-Ferrer was a better match in this tournament.

Best match of the year is arguably Davydenko-Nadal in Doha.

No. Not even best match of the tournament. Verdasco-Ferrer was better.

This, that was a great match throughout, best match at the US Open, with an amazing shot on match point. It was just too bad Ferrer, lost.

I feel Nadal-Djokovic would be a better one.
It depends on which Djokovic shows up, Nadal is always already stand by.

It was a terrible match. Even in the 5th set Federer made 20+ errors. And Djokovic didn't play that well either.

only 53 % of 1st serve and 66 unforced errors by Roger meant the quality wasn't high enough!! It's not like the 2008 match against rafa when he was simply outplayed by rafa this was Roger under-preforming...not taking anything way from nole but that's the truth!

If roger had played his best tennis and lost fair enough but I'll say the drama was there but the quality was missing from the FED!

Nope. Except for the first set and last set, it was mostly garbage.

First set: Great quality until the very end, when Djokovic chokes to give away a break.
Second set: Federer attempts to stay aggressive and starts spraying errors everywhere.
Third set: Federer finds some rhythm, and even though Djokovic is playing better he chokes again at the end of the set.
Fourth set: Federer full of fail again and gives away the set.
Fifth set: High quality stuff with Djokovic, the better overall player of the match taking it in dramatic fashion.

A lot of ups and downs, errors, choking. Made for really good drama though.

no cause

both players didnt want to gave it all until the last set. Thats why this set get so good they had lot of energy left in the tank.

Both players didnt want to risk being exhasuted to the final. You cant trust the rain.

Fed was even worse in this aspect giving two sets away easily.
Fed was thinking and planning too much and something you cant plan for.

Also Set 5 in Tsonga vs Almagro (AO), sets 1 and 2 in murray vs Nadal (AO).

I honestly think the Djokovic and Federer final was the best 4 setter, even though there was that shitty rain delay that occurred twice. Despite that, their performance was on for the most part, ridiculous shot making, and a lot of heavy hitting, with sick 20 hit rallies.

For pure excitement and drama in the fifth set this game will be remembered, but as others have said, Federer was largely garbage in this match, handing Djokovic two sets and still almost winning it.

Personally, in terms of high quality tennis, I thought the Australian Open Final this year had some of the highest level tennis I've seen all year. Murray was excellent in that final, but Federer was simply superb - practically the best i've ever seen him play.

Don't know about the best, but the Wimbledon final between Nadal and Berdych was one of the worst matches of the year. The ultimate UE-fest.

This year has been ropey in terms of the quality of tennis. Federer and Djokovic put on a good first and fifth set, but the rest of the match was dreadful. The Ferrer-Verdasco match was very good, though maybe it stands out because the US Open was pretty awful this season. The Australian Open produced some good tennis. I think Murray and Nadal put on a decent performance and the final was also entertaining. When Federer is playing well, he's always fun to watch, regardless of whether it's a tight five-setter or three-set beat-down of his opponent.

Same could be said for Djokovic regarding sets 1 and 3.He was a break up in the first, gave it back, awful game at 5-5 and again a replica woeful game at 5-5 in third to hand him the set both times  I'm not saying Djokovic would have won those sets, because they were nearing a TB anyway where anything could happen but it can't be denied that djokovic dumped served badly both times to gift the set.Fifth was good quality and Djokovic won it.People might say Fed sqaundered the MP's but in truth he only got them because Djok made a couple of nervy errors to go down 15-40 which he rectified with some quality winners

you mean the Nadal-Djokovic final. and yeah i agree. the first 2 sets of the USO Final was very good. low UEs and very good returning from both guys. awesome rallies and shotmaking made it a memorable match for me.
