I was just thinking, what players play a unconventional style of tennis, I mean weird technique, like a 2-handed Forehand or just constructes the rallies in an unusual manner. It just occured to me these type of eccentric players arent in abundance on the tour.

Sluiter plays every shot double handed. Braasch, I've finally seen his serve this year.

Now you know why he is GWH's favourite German player of all time, and it's a great serve. :)

I always heard about the serve and finally saw him in doubles with Robredo in Rosmalen. Too bad he didn't smoke that day. ;)

Nothing beats being there when he played the Williams sisters, and he was smoking at the change of ends.

The 10m high ball toss and the Mecir like game isn't that conventional these days, actually I like the different.

Btw, your old player thread has been updated.

What is unconventional in Feña?

His power is unconventional and the fact that he just belts everything most of the time, when he could and has actually played intelligent tennis without hitting every ball at 400km/h.

Sometimes his game is risked, but I am charmed with him :worship:

Hrbaty has an unconventional ball toss....it looked even higher than Kucera's to me. Maybe its a Slovakian trend?

hey Nick Kiefer as well, his ball toss is pretty high, he plays a style which is rare these days, he uses a lot of raquet feel and not that much power to construct the rallies. Also Boutter has a bit of an unconventional game, ball toss is very high.

Sluiter has probably the most unconventional game, the man actually has a lot of talent, I mean to play 2-handed forehand cant be easy, but maybe this probably explains why he doesnt win much.

Kafelnikov's forehand was pretty unconventional, its the AK-47 type swing, with the flat ball contact.

Understandably so.

A high ball toss does not mean unconventional at all, Hrbaty's game is very conventional apart from the ball toss.

Having a double handed style isn't that difficult

Im right handed and play double handed - I play my forehand like a left-handed backhand and it's my fave shot :) I find doing a backhand with my right hand being near the face of the racquet difficult

What is more difficult is footwork and volleying - you don't have has much reach and that isn't easy

Anybody who plays double-handed just needs to work train bit harder to get used the style :)

Well, Sluiter is so amazing due to his grips- he actually has the left hand on the bottom while hitting from the left wing, and the right hand on the bottom when he hits with his right wing (or the opposite, I don't really remember lol)! That's really amazing to watch. He's a fun guy to see, anyways, but his extreme grip changes makes him facsinating.

I don't remember if it was Geoff Grant or Jason Goodall, but one of them said Florian Mayer was unconventional.

Why would they be? Most coaches do not nurture unconventional styles.

Somebody went crazy with the search function and 2004 :retard: Guess it beats making the same threads over and over but still, MTF is not a fine wine, no need to ressurect everything hoping it got more interesting

Nothing beats being there when he played the Williams sisters, and he was smoking at the change of ends.

He was nearly ALWAYS doing that, not just during Williams matches...

Many athletes are heavy smokers. Kafelnikov, for example, smoked a lot.
