no Fish so far?! Strange....

09-14-2004, 07:20 PM
Yeah that is odd that they have left him off. I believe Graydon mentioned that he wanted to play doubles with Mardy at this tournament, so I'm pretty sure he will be there. I'm a little bit surprised that they haven't put JMG on this list as well, but his ranking is a bit low and he may not make the cut off. I guess the official entry list will be out next week.

09-14-2004, 07:42 PM
Phili is No 66 - Blake No 89
Jan-Mike is No 71

I wonder if Blake plays with protected ranking?

09-14-2004, 07:44 PM
There will be no Schalken or Verkerk at this event due to injuries.

09-14-2004, 07:50 PM
@ Fee
I checked Mardys homepage. It looks like he will play St.Petersburg instead.
that's strange beacuse he won his first title in stockholm last year.

@ FryslanBoppe
are u sure about the Dutch players?

@ FryslanBoppe
are u sure about the Dutch players?

Why would I say otherwise if it wasn't true?

Sjeng has glandular fever and won't play for the rest of the season.
Verkerk has an injury and is planning to come back for the Aus Open.

09-14-2004, 08:05 PM
I didn't know :( that's why I asked.
I wonder why they are on the list.

09-14-2004, 09:56 PM
Is James really that low now? Wow. I didn't even notice that Schalken was on the list. That's odd because he announced on his website that he was done for the year. I didn't realize that Verkerk was done for the year, I thought he was going tournament by tournament to see how that chest injury would heal. That's a shame for him.

The official entry list should be out now since it's 6 weeks before the tournament, so I will see if I can track it down somewhere. Tournaments have a bad habit of putting names on their websites that they already know are not coming in order to sell tickets, then make a late announcement about the withdrawals.

James isn't using a protected ranking. I think you have to be out for a minimum of 6 months to use one, and he's played 3 tournaments this summer, so it would not apply.

Where have u all this infos from??? On the official website there is nothing!

10-18-2004, 09:59 PM
It's from the ATP. They have an internal system for the players that posts updated entry lists and withdrawals. Some people have access to that information and are willing to share it.

Tournament websites are marketing tools for the tournaments, they will not always tell you when a player pulls out, especially if it's a player whose name can help them sell tickets.

Andy Withdraws from Stockholm
by: Sarah Alvanipour

10/20/2004 --

In an effort to conserve his energy and continue his preparations for two important year-end events, the Tennis Masters Cup, and of course, the Davis Cup Finals, Andy has elected to withdraw from the Stockholm Open which is slated to begin next Monday, October 25 in the Swedish capital.

This was a decision, which was made after careful consideration of a variety of factors by Andy and his team, and was thought to be in Andy’s best interest.

This will give Andy an opportunity to continue resting this elbow and knee and to recharge before he begins the final leg of the ATP Circuit’s fall season....

10-21-2004, 05:49 AM
Andre will be the next one to pull, especially if he beats Spadea.

10-21-2004, 06:18 AM
Andre will be the next one to pull, especially if he beats Spadea.
you really think so? So I should hope Spadea wins today
I'm sad isn't coming to Stockholm, hopefully Andre will play there.

Agassi beat spadea but i doubt he will pull out stockholm, he's right in the thick of trying to qualify for houston, stockholm would probably be easy points for him...

10-22-2004, 12:05 AM
Yea Andre's 5th best result is only 1 point so all matches he wins in Stockholm will give him points. He should play unless he isn't able to physically. I think it will still be tough for him to qualify though.

10-22-2004, 12:57 AM
Stockholm (2 SE spots CLEARED)
OUT: Verkerk, Roddick, Philippoussis, Tursunov (and Carraz, Popp, Blake from ALT)
IN: Mathieu, Starace, Koubek, Montanes, Arthurs, Kohlschreiber
NEXT: Monaco, Mantilla, Muller, Rusedski, Corretja, Dupuis, Sluiter ...

Okay, Mathieu and Starace have also made it into Basel and St. Petersburg, so they have to notify the ATP which of these three tournaments they want to play. Should know that tomorrow, so there will be more changes.

Deb, thanks for the info about Andre's 5th result. I thought it was better than that, so I agree with both of you that he will probably go to Stockholm to get more points for Houston (although he may not want to go see Jim 'Friend of the Bushies' McIngvale now that everyone knows he's going to vote for John Kerry  ).

10-22-2004, 04:42 AM
No prob :yeah: I didn't realize it was only 1 point either.

As for Mattress Mack, he may be a personal friend of BushieWushie but Andre brings in money for him and I think that concern would take precedence for him ;)

10-22-2004, 06:07 AM
Wayno :)

10-22-2004, 03:10 PM
Stockholm (2 SE spots CLEARED)

10-22-2004, 07:59 PM
Final changes, qualie draw should be out soon... Check the website for the Wildcards, if they announced it yet. Main Draw out on Saturday.

Stockholm (2 SE spots CLEARED)

10-22-2004, 08:53 PM
Yep, quali is out but the website is bad!!! The quali is hard to find there and then there are really no announcements through the players or the Wildcards. Will hope for a livescore next week but i do not think so really.

10-22-2004, 09:00 PM
WC: Ryderstedt and Eleskovic
Magnus and Vinci are not playing. :(

10-22-2004, 09:19 PM
Thanks for the infos Björki!

I had expected Ryderstedt and Eleskovic cause Norman and Vinci were in real doubt. Rehnqvist and Adaktusson also injured. So no one really left for it.

10-22-2004, 10:15 PM
Here's the article from the tourney site about the WCs

Wild Cards to Carlsen, Eleskovic and Ryderstedt
Ervin Eleskovic, Michael Ryderstedt and the Dane Kenneth Carlsen have received Wild Cards for the Main Draw at the if… Stockholm Open.

19-year old Ryderstedt from Stockholm has cracked the top 250 this autumn, thanks to impressive results on the Challenger circuit. This will be the young Swede´s first appearance ever in the Main Draw of an ATP tournament.

Ervin Eleskovic, who is born in 1987, is even younger than Ryderstedt. He is the top ranked Swedish junior and a real hard server. Eleskovic has been practising with Team Catella and the head coach, Mats Wilander, as a preparation for the if… Stockholm Open.

Kenneth Carlsen has won Denmarks only ATP title ever. The 31-year old lefthander had his breakthrough at the Australian Open in 1993 when he reached the round of 16. Carlsen is currently number 79 at the INDESIT Entry rankings and has advanced to the semifinals of Shanghai and quarterfinals of Moscow after the US Open.

10-27-2004, 05:46 AM
Why is Mardy Fish not defending his title?

10-27-2004, 07:05 AM
Because he's chose to play St. Petersburg instead.

11-02-2004, 06:44 AM
Is that the only reason?Wow..the first time I heard a player not defending his first singles career title
