Just to relax, draw upon that experience that he gained playing in the australian opne final and winning that and take that feeling and confidence into this match. Dont panic, just focus on the match

He has a very good record against nadal on hard so his chances to beat him are actually very good.

nole does lead rafa 7:3 on hc.. however:

1. 3 of those wins over rafa came during last summer-fall, during rafa's tendinitis-induced slump when he still lacked the confidence or match toughness to beat anyone in the top 10, let alone nole..

2. nole has never beaten rafa at the majors.. i.e., 5-set format..

3. rafa leads nole 4:0 at the majors

4. in fact, rafa beat nole in the '08 olympics, their most high-profile hc meeting to date..

5. 5 of nole's 7 hc wins over rafa have come during the summer-fall hc season, a time of year when rafa's historically played his worst tennis, i.e., been at his most vulnerable, coming as it does after the marathon monte carlo-wimbledon stretch = rafa's money-maker..

6. he has yet to play this new-and-improved rafa this year..

To sum it up:

1. Nole has absolutely nothing to lose in the final, he has now regained the #2 ranking from Roger
2. Just get out there on the court and go for it like he does when he plays Rafa on HC (playing aggressively)
3. 7-3 H2H lead on HC against Rafa
4. Get a great night of rest
5. Pray that it downpours all day on Sunday (that way a Monday final will be a much fairer match since both Nole and Rafa will be better rested)

re: no. 4: good advice, no doubt, but i don't know if 'a great night of rest' is gonna restore enough of nole's mental and physical edge to make him a threat against rafa tomorrow.. cause he'll need to be sharp as a tack as he faces the world's no. 1, a guy he trails 0:4 in slam meetings, for the first time ever in a slam final..

as it stands, they each have one hc slam title to their name (aussie open) though nole has the advantage of having played in a previous uso final ('07).. but will that be enough to offset rafa's obvious advantage? we'll soon find out..

Djokovic knows what it takes to beat Nadal. But doing so in a best of 5, at a slam final. You know Nadal is going to bring everything to the table. He won't let go of on any chance at all. Winning three sets will be a bit too much for Djokovic. I just hope he tries whatever he can, because you can be assured Nadal will from his end.

I see Nadal's name against the trophy this year.

He can only hope that Nadal is injured and cannot move well. Also hoping that he would feel fresh tomorrow right after he wakes up.

Nole has the kind of power that can win the match.

Make sure he serves with a high % even if it means taking a bit of pace off, just make sure he places it well. He's hitting his ground strokes good enough to stay in control and win the majority of points once he has the advantage. He should maybe try to come into the net more often too, he's good and gets chances to finish things off far quicker.

He needs to be aggressive like he was towards the end of the 5th set last night, just go for it!

1) Serve a high % of first serve
2) Attack Rafa's second serve
3) Go to rafa's backhand
4) Mix the game up with some variety (net play, drop shots etc)
5) Dont get into lengthy rallies in the first set itself and get tired
6) Dont let Rafa control the center of the court - move him from side to side
7) On any unimportant point take aim at rafa's carefully aligned water bottles
8) Get aggressive before rafa does.
9) Use Challenges if you need a few moments rest
10) Call the trainer anytime you feel rafa is gaining momentum.
11) Take a toilet break to recompose if you find yourself down
12) Take enough time between serves if needed

Yeah... but in 5 setters on any surface--levels the playing field a bit.

Plus Rafa has been more successful in grand slam finals, obviously. Rafa knows how to win slams.

So.. that's why some of us are giving a little confidence boost to Nole. Nole has the game... he just needs to execute and play it!

and you do know that those 3 defeats came during rafa's '09 summer-fall hc season slump while he was still woefully lacking in confidence and match toughness after his tendinitis-induced layoff and painful road back from injury, don't you?

in fact, rafa's won all 4 of their best-of-five matches (all at the majors) and none of those matches even went 4 sets cause nole ran out of steam long before..

do you really think nole's suddenly gonna go toe to toe with this new-and-improved rafa today in 5 considering his pitiful record against rafa at the majors, and especially after his marathon 5-setter with roger yesterday? umm ok..

i wouldn't automatically assume that rain will necessarily be all that good for nole.. i think nole's fans ought to be careful what they wish for.. i.e., no one handles the jarring stop-and-start mental drain these rain delays inflict on players and their concentration better than rafa does..

nole to me is still a bit of an 'emotional' player.. and this may tend to become a liability in these uncertain-type scenarios.. rafa, otoh, has been through some of the worst rain delays in tennis and come out victorious in the end.. so a rainy afternoon may end up ultimately being more detrimental for the serbian..

Nole has a lot of pressure too, don't get mistaken. He knows he has a golden chance to win his second grand slam after two years, huge feat. I'm sure he will feel the pressure but hopefully he can handle it. If he can play his ground strokes painting the lines and attacking like he did in Paris last year, he will beat Nadal. But out of 5 sets anything can happen.

that's the issue right there.. nole's never beaten rafa in a best-of-five format or even pushed rafa to 4 sets in 4 previous attempts.. while rafa's probably the toughest 5-set player around.. that's a lot to ask from the serbian..
