Some good moments from Youzhny but not consistent enough.

Solid match for Nadal, taking him to his first USO final.

Sad to say but this is Rafa's year. He is not like Roger who counts on keep getting chances. He knows this is it or maybe it for him here. Youzhny would have had a chance with a more aggressive plan. But a very very very small chance.

6/2 6/3 6/4 is a beautiful form of bagel.

Best match Rafa has played so far IMO. Youzhny did well when he broke back in the 3rd, but apart from that he was totally outplayed. The scary part thing was that although he wasn't very good, Youzhny didn't play terribly and got a total beatdown.

Nadal's backhand is still a liability.

Federer or Djokovic will expose that. Not sure that it will be enough though.

At least Misha broke Nadal

Well done Rafa, into his first US Open final. Comfortable match for him. Youzhny got the break back in the third but gifted it right back to Rafa which was a shame. Hope he can take a lot from this and consolidate his top 10 position for the end of they year, or even top 8 to make the WTF.

Youzhny was clearly exhausted from the start. Had nothing on the groundstrokes.

Nadal wasn't as good as he has been, quite a lot of errors, not as penetrating as normal off the ground. Apparently he has foot problems (and not just the blisters).

For the record, I don't think there was any conspiracy. I just think the level of competition is a joke right now. The younger players with potential are all mental midgets or injury prone, the older top tier players are all on the decline. When notorious chokers and idiots like Murray, Djokovic, Cilic, Berdych, Verdasco and Clownfils are your best hope for challenging Nadal and an ageing Federer, what do you expect?

There has been a few interesting matches (Ferrer-Verdasco, Stan upsetting Murray) but for the most part this US Open has been awful.

At least Youzhny had beaten Nadal FOUR times before, including a 1 and 0 beatdown.
Potential excitement has absolutely nothing to do with the actual matches themselves. Even pigeons can at least cause excitement when they bring the best that they have to their matches, even if they end up losing again, they can at least show a fight. The Youzhny who beat Nadal four times didn't even show up today, except for maybe one game in the whole match (the one where he broke Nadal). Statistics really have nothing to do with how boring this match was, or how little of a fight Nadal was given in his semifinal match today.
That's how I like them. Nice and boring routine wins when Rafa is playing :wavey:
Is that because you like the tennis player more than the quality of tennis played between both players in a match?

My fave goes down quite meekly. He used to play Rafa tough, but the truth is, Misha has nothing on Rafa right now. And I wonder if anyone actually has. Rafa had one notable weakness for hardcourts - attackable serve - and that's how Misha used to beat him , pouncing on those serves early . No more. Frankly, I see no weaknesses in Rafa's game. One has to play a very high risk game to have a chance. I don't see either his possible opponent beig able to do that consistently.

I agree that Nadal hasn't been as good as he has been earlier in the tournament. Still it was enough to get the job done, and he also saved a bit of energy by ending it in 3. Also, I hope that the blisters are not too bad.

Will have to play much much better to challenge Djokovic or Federer.

I agree.. I really don't think Rafa played THAT well today.. Good, yes, amazing, no.. He has to rise his level if he wants to win against Nole/Fed.

Got to say though, Nadal seems to be a very likeable person. Might even be cheering for him if it weren't for a few things:

1) Federer and Djokovic play more attractive tennis IMO, Nadal's success will encourage more defensive, topspin vamos tennis
2) Nadaltards are really rubbing me the wrong way

I'm always glad to see Rafa haters, or well, people who doesn't Rafa that much, to at least give the guy some credit. Show that you are a nice person :)

Some of Federer's GS Semis

2003 Wimbledon - Andy Roddick
2004 Wimbledon - Seb Grosjean
2006 Aus Open - Nick Kiefer
2006 Wimbledon - Jonas Bjorkman
2007 Aus Open - Andy Roddick
2007 Wimbledon - Richard Gasquet
2008 RG - Gael Monfils
2008 Wimbledon - Marat Safin
2009 Aus Open - Andy Roddick

not to mention that he's played his other pigeons Hewitt and Davydenko more than once of SFs. At least Youzhny had beaten Nadal FOUR times before, including a 1 and 0 beatdown.

Great stats. Thanks, this is great for all the whiners who always complain that Rafa has an easy draw.

I agree that level of competition right now is not very high. Injuries plague many of the players, and the young players choke badly at times.

I also agree that except for a few matches, this USO has been quite boring. Fed/Novak match right now isn't half bad though :)

That's how I like them. Nice and boring routine wins when Rafa is playing :wavey:

LOL.. True. We should be glad they are boring I guess :)

Class act, Rafa, mentioning 9/11 victims, respect. :worship:

Youzhny went into this match with no game plan and totally prepared to lose. Rafa, as usual, takes nobody for granted and blew him off the court. Rafa now the second youngest player to reach all four slam finals (after Courier).

Now go and win your third straight slam title, champ. http://i39.tinypic.com/6i8dio.jpg

I agree that Youzhny was an mebarrassment today. No movement, no game plan, and when he finally figured it out it was too late.

Still, I don't think Rafa played that amazing today.. He needs to step it up if he wants to win the final.

Nadal is one match away from the most significant moment in his career so far (a career grand slam). He will bring everything to the table for the final. I think he will be too much for either Federer or Djokovic.

I don't want to take anything for granted. Anything can happen tomorrow. We'll have to see how it goes.

I believe that this was an even bigger beatdown than the one Nadal received in last year's semi-finals (despite the games score). Well done Nadal!

No beatdown today. Youhny was tired, and a fairly good Nadal got the job done. Still, i didn't see anything amazing out there.

Anything else than a win in 3 sets would have been extremely surprising...

Rafa :yeah:

Yep, 3 sets was my prediction too I think. I knew Youzhny was going to be tired heading into this match.

Bit of a snoozer; funny that Youzhny woke up for one game at the end of the fourth and then instantly threw his hard work away again xD

Clearly no stopping this Nadal

LOL.. I know, I actually thought he could pull it off and take a set off Nadal at the end there. Glad that didn't happen though. Brain fart/choking from Youzhny I guess.

This is turning out to be a seriously great year for Spanish Sports.

Yep, definitely a good year :)

Final is at 4:00pm
But rain is expected :(

I know.. hopefully it won't be too bad, but we might have to watch the final on monday instead! Has this ever happened before? The final being postponed a day?

Congrats, Rafa for making it to the finals in New York.

Well done and good luck for the final. Hope to see you winning that last Slam.

I hope so too! :)

No surprise. But Misha deserves props for getting to the SF in the first place. It was a good tournament from him.

Nadal keeps rolling, and it's true: he doesn't have a lot of chances at this title. He's going to come out strong.

I actually hope Nole wins his SF.

Well thanks, I really don't consider myself a hater either, just a fan of certain styles, which affects the players I cheer for.

Rafa seems like a very sensible and a nice person, who always gives credit to Roger. I hope that his tards would be the same... Though I'm asking too much maybe!

As I've said before, I actually sometimes rooted against Federer even though I'm a fan just because the Fedtards were horrible on the forums

Pathetic draw for Nadal, of that there can be no doubt. Of course, in this pathetic era of tennis, I suppose every draw that the Accidental Champion receives can only be pathetic.

Agreed, 2 free matches against his butt squadron…. weak. Sad day.

I love people brining up stats to prove the haters wrong! Thank you :D

It's not as one sided as people think. Fed has had some fairly easy draws too. So can we please stop with the stupid draw excuse already? Seriously.. It's getting old.

You got your avatar of Nadal prepared for tomorrow evening, Magician?

Cheers for the bad rep, Magician. I guess we'll be kept waiting for Federer to give "Nadull a beatdown to put the FO 2008 to shame."

Moonballed to death huh? Sour grapes I see, Nadal dominated the match, he was always the aggressor. Anyway great year for Youzhny, happy to see him in the top ten.

VAMOS RAFA, 1 more match.
