WTF is in 2 months, and there are a few more tournaments until then.
Nadal, Federer, Murray, Soderling and Djokovic have already pretty much sealed their places.
Berdych is pretty much a done deal too.
Question is, who fills the other 2 spots?
Roddick, Verdasco, Ferrer and Youzhny are the 4 closest to the spots, and the final two will come from them.
I think, out of those 4, Verdasco and Youzhny will reach the draw.
Roddick is pretty shit atm, and Ferrer isn't as good on hard as Nando or Mikhail.
First 6 pretty much made already, the other 2 are still to really be determined.
Discuss....

It's not the top 8 who get through automatically!
I was reading about it some weeks ago, although I've forgotten some it it now
It's the top 7 and then if there is a GS winner, who is not in the top 7, but in top 20, they get the no. 8 place.
I can probably find it on the internet somewhere again...
If Youzhny were to win US Open, I think he gets a place :)

He would be safely in the top 8 if he won anyway.

There's a big gap in the race between Ferrer who is currently at #9 and Melzer who is at #10, so I think it's probably likely that one of them will make it. I have a feeling Roddick will withdraw.

Really? I didn't know that
Surely, if the only GS winners are in the top 4, let's say, then the top 8 by the end of the year get in?
Melzer will be 300 pints behind Youzhny in the race at least, come Monday. So I don't think he'll make it.

BTW, I forgot about Melzer, he is a candidate as well.
Of course!! - it will be top 8 if high ranked players win GS's
Melzer will be ranked no. 13 on Monday, I believe :)

I edited my post
Sorry, I don't see Melzer being a candidate, he'll be 300 points behind Youzhny come Monday, at least.

why the fuck did the ATP stop doing the "Race" ranking points on their website?
I always assumed top 8, just like you, till I started looking at the rules a while ago!!
I wonder when the last time a GS was won by a player lower than rank 7...
WC Goran Ivanisovic - Wimbledon??
I can't be bothered to look it up :)

Was it anything to do with sponsors..?
There was a sponsor who got into some financial difficulty, I think the race was under their name.. can't think of it right now

Don't know, they still do it on the WTA site, I think.

They probably stopped doing it just to simplify everything, like they renamed the tournaments MS1000 and ATP250/500, just to make it easier for a new or casual tennis follower. I'd imagine going on the website and seeing the rankings and then the race was a bit confusing for people. No one really cared about it until Paris normlly anyway.

It would be amazing to see Verdasco in the WTF. I think he deserves it. Well, he's not had an amazing year, he did choke in a few torunaments. Still, it hasn't been that bad of a year for him. And he is fairly consistent. I think he deserves to be in the Top 10, and he should reach the WTF imo :)

Quite a few actually, but weirdly enough, all of them were non-slam predictions, except for RG 09.
