Would a Youzhny/Djokovic final be bad?

I know the odds of a Youzhny/Djokovic final are very low (esp for Youzhny to make it the final) but I want your views...

I know US open fans want a slice of the Fedal slam action which has been monoplised by FO and Wimbledon but do you think a fedal final can be anti-climatic, not necessarliy by the scoreline but by the expectation of a tennis bonanza?

a Youzhny/Djokovic final would have more of a surprise element?

your views...

The Nadal - Federer final will the best thing possible for the tournament sponsors because both of them have the biggest fanbase all across the globe, so it will result in more people tuning in to watch the event. Nothing can get bigger than a Nadal - Federer final today. Whether Federer can beat his biggest rival on his weakest surface or whether Nadal wins a career slam as well which puts him in another league alltogether. Historically, it cannot get any better.

However, a Djokovic - Youzhny final will be a surprise to many and could be interesting in its own way. Whether Djokovic is able to get his second slam title or whether Youzhny can pull off the biggest surprise recently (it has been quite some time since we had a surprise winner). It has its own merits.

rank the best case scenario for a final ...

Federer/nadal
Youzhny/Djokovic
Djokovic/nadal
Youzhny/federer

Final will be Djokovic-Nadal, they produce the best tennis matches ever.

that would be a good scenario but I think their last classic was last year's madrid? that and they've never met in a slam final would jazz it up! but I'm not sure if Djokovic can go the distance in a best of 5 though...his stamina can be an issue

Better for Federer will be Novak against Rafa, he will beat him as always on hard, if Federer lose in final, that will be big blow, cheer for Nole, it's better for the GOAT ;)

I'm not saying its ideal but If most people (yourself included) might go in thinking it might be crap...they might be pleasently surpised

Every final with Youzhny in would be bad . Not because Youzhny is a bad player , he couldn't be able to produce best tennis in first GS final

the guy comes across as a bit :silly: but we have to put into the equation that he's the only one out of all the remaining guys with nothing to lose....I wonder if anyone in the forum put any money on him reaching the semi's let alone the final?

A Djok/Youzhny final would be fresh and new...all what tennis world (especially GS) needs. We are fed up to see the 2 same guys playing the same final...STOP !!

It'll be nothing more than a poorer version of Djokovic-Tsonga at A0 in 2008.

I'd love to see that final as I really like both Djokovic and Youzhny. But if that happened, it would probably be an easy win for Djoko.

it would more than likely mean a 3 set win for djokovic but i'd still think it would be pleasantly suprising and refreshing

"nothing to lose". such a ridiculous concept for underdogs.

Youzhny has the most to lose as he's the least likely to ever find himself in a slam semi again. And he's playing a guy he has a winning record against on hardcourts, beaten him in one slam and would've have beaten him in another until he injured his back.

I dont think any USO final would be bad. From a hype stand point, obviously fedal would be the ticket. But Youzhny/Djok would be a good match up, and if both guys could deal with their nerves, it could be some quality tennis.

Colonel vs Nole would be an okay final. Don't think it'll happen though.

Would be boring. Youzhny would get toasted. Nadal-Federer or Nadal-Nole are the two interesting match-ups.

For those of you who said Youzhny would be toasted by Djokovic :rolls:

I love both guys but seriously? Have you ever seen their matches before? Their H2h is 3-4 with Nole having a slight lead for goodness sake.

I'd watch it. And root for Youzhny.

Fedal's the best they can hope for, followed by Nole/Rafa, followed by Fed/Misha.

I actually think if misha makes it to the final he could produce his best. He is abit of a headcase but he has won finals against big players before.

It would probably be bad for TV ratings, but I think it would be a good entertaining match. :)

I don't think the U.S. media would pay any attention though, unless it turns into an EPIC match or Youzhny cuts his head open with his racquet again.

So i see... people only watch tennis in America because of Fedal? Now I understand why tennis is so low ranked in the US and produces no great players anymore...

It wouldn't be an automatic win for Djokovic.

Their Dubai match was very close, and earlier this year Youzhny beat Djoker in Rotterdam.

not really ridiculous, because there 0 expectations for him...if he loses people say so what he lost to the world number 1, if he wins he get a huge upset...on the other hand if rafa wins it was expected...if he loses some people will react like its armageddon

I personally would enjoy it, but it would be bad overall. A Federer/Nadal final would get a lot of attention even on the NFL's opening day.
