Nice to see two Romanians qualify.

Good luck to Cipo in the MD. Trevisan is going to be a tough R1 match.

Outside of that I have no favorites so may the best man win. It would be nice to see a Romanian winning this event. And hopefully Alcaide beats Brands in R1, that would make my day.

Romania should advance easily to the Davis Cup world group again. N. Lapentti is essentially retired, and G. Lapentti isn't a clay court player. Are there other Ecuadorian players? I don't even know. But Romania loses R1 in the world group every year anyway, so it's sort of not that big of a deal, but good luck to them in a couple of weeks. Ungur/Hanescu should definitely be the singles combination.

We don`t even have a decent tennis court. In every year Ilie Nastase put a word on ITF to let us play in Romania, even though we don`t have a court with 5000 places.
Our politicians don`t care about sports. We have no money invested in sports. The situation is really bad. Therefore,we think that it is a great performance for Romania to play in every single year on World Group.

P.S. we had 1-0 with USA a few years ago :P

P.P.S. copil saved a breakpoint and now leads 4-2

yeah, yeah, very bad. there are tennis academies to be opened and there are already some clubs. 3 new stadiums of football in progress: Bucharest (Elite), Cluj-Napoca (Elite) and Ploiesti (construction begun on 7th), the 1st two stadiums being on 70% already. Olympic Complex from Izvorani, swimming pools in Oradea, Bacau, they build now in Constanta. halls near Dinamo in Bucharest, Craiova, Targu-Neamt (both in progress), next in Cluj-Napoca and Arena Bucurestilor.

you talk a lot of crap and dont come here talking about situation and blame the politicians, the country is in progress and was always after 1990! of course, Romania isnt Germany or England yet! you can leave the country if you want... :wavey:

FOR DAVIS CUP there are: Arenele BNR (where is the Romanian Open), there is that club from Bucharest where was played Gaz de France Open WTA some years ago when we had Cetkovska-Cirstea, Olimpia Club from Brasov, Club IDU from Constanta (Mamaia), if you want indoor the hall from Sibiu... we have nice clubs but with smaller arenas, BUT HOW MANY COUNTRIES DO YOU THINK HAVE SO MANY TENNIS ARENAS BIGGER THAN 5,000?

it is not my fault Ruxandra Dragomir is a bad manager! i am very sure you dont need 5000 places i saw small arenas in other coutries for Davis Cup 2000-3000. but you may be right and the rules changed.

why they dont play on Arenele BNR? 5500 places?

yeah, yeah, very bad. there are tennis academies to be opened and there are already some clubs.

5500 places?

let`s not arguing here. I don`t know how close are you with the tennis players, but i spoke with copil and many others and I know their situations. No one ever helped them in any ways. Look at donald young for instance. he get WC at every tournament and looses in the opening round. I bet he can play whenever he wants on any tennis court from USA. Marius Copil can`t play because he is pull out from the court in order to play the players who belong to that club. And that`s the situation with all our players.

And I don`t wanna leave my country. I love my country more than anyone

anyway, let`s get back to the topic. in order to play a davis cup match in the world group there must be a court with 5000 places :)

about not having many tennis arenas with more 5000 places i agree. but this problem is also present in other EU countries which are smaller. in 1-2 years we shouldnt have any problem, we will host it indoor!

Adrian definitely has the talent to be a top 80 or so player, but he lacks consistency game-wise and solidity mentally. He's also weak defensively. If you look at most of the clay challenger veterans in or near the top 100, most are solid players, good defenders, and can make players miss and force them into errors. Adrian is the one making the errors, which is why he still is ranked where he is.

He'll probably be in the top 100 next year.

Actually, I don't really like Alessio, but he played really well today. Top 100 Alessio level showed up. He played smart and served well. Ungur was awful, kept missing, didn't serve well, didn't return well and didn't change his tactics. In front of the home country fans, he didn't put forth a good enough performance, and he started pouting instead of fighting. Not good from Adrian.

Eric should be the favorite for the title.

Even though many of you are trash talking Ungur, you are kinda right. He is simply not mature enough to win a game with a player like Di Mauro. As a poster previously said he was trying to hit trough Di Mauro which is very hard to do, especially with the tough conditions in Brasov(heavy balls, heavy court). Also Adrian couldn't use his drop shots(because the balls were very heavy) which would've been some great weapons against a player like Di Mauro who's playing 2m behind the base line and which Ungur uses very well.
And it's also a bad match-up for Ungur as he is not prepared to win a tough game like this.

Filo V.
09-10-2010, 07:00 PM
The conditions do seem slow and heavy. Which is not good for Adrian. Adrian is offensive and he couldn't do it effectively. Adrian definitely is immature in terms of tactics. He needs to improve his serve, and he needs to learn not to overhit all of the time. He's too inconsistent. But, he is also very talented and has great shots off both sides and good movement. He'll figure it out, hopefully. He needs to look at Victor and see how it's done.

Filo V.
09-10-2010, 07:03 PM
Adrian has good angles and a pretty good slice backhand. Sometimes he uses them effectively, I think he should do that more.

He really had way too much today for Alessio, smart, moved Alessio around and hit aggressively when he had a short ball. AHM is about an average challenger player, that's what he's been for a while now. He did what a lot of players do in big stages, he played above himself. Back on the challenger tour, that motivation isn't the same, and so you see the regular results.

As for Ungur, he's talented but not smart, Alessio pushed him into losing, literally. I thought he would win this title, but really Prodon is the best player in the draw to me anyway, so if he wins it will be a deserved title.

i disagree with you...
if you had the chance to see haider play live, you could feel the consistence and speed of his ball
his consistence in the rally is not that of a challenger player
last but not least, i was really impressed by his fitness and physycal power
1,90 x 90 kgs of muscles

i saw ungur play live too and he is by far a top 70-80 atp on clay; he owns in his possibilities players like riba, berlocq, ramirez hidalgo, greul, etc.
a great talent with low concentration, sadly(mainly a bad approach to te match at the beginning)...

prodon is a future tournaments dominator and an average challenger player; his ball's and rallies consistance is that of a 150-200 Atp player
he could never win a top 50 Atp, while ungur could

...but tennis is almost a mental game, and there it is
