No Haase? Poor entry list though.

It's pretty good, actually. Some Top 100 players, some well-known players that are ranked lower now, and some Dutch guys. Considering the timing (US Open) and the number of events held this week, it's not bad at all.

Personally, I also like the field for it allows me to see some guys I have never seen in action (Fabbiano, Goffin, Lemke, Eysseric, Arnaboldi).

CooCooCachoo

Because all these events have similar cut-offs, the actual cut-off could fall quite a lot with withdrawals :o

Good opportunity for Jesse to win in the home country. The entry list isn't that bad, really, if you look at the money/timing/other events.

I'm rooting for Simon to win here, good luck!

Way to rob someone off a WC, Robin. I don't get how he never committed for this tournament, but did for Como. I have no respect for this type of behaviour  He could have just entered Alphen a/d Rijn in any case, and then withdraw if he didn't want to play.

In my opinion he scheduled a resting weeek. He entered knowhere. The organisation must have convinced him to accept the wildcard! Good for the tournament en the dutch fans! I respect your opinion in the same way as i respect Robin to make the right choices.

You would expect him to have taken a week rest in Como rather than Alphen aan den Rijn. And it really is perfectly fine to withdraw in time for a Challenger, so he should have just entered in any case.

The scoreline given previously was incorrect, but yes Junaid won 7-6(7) 2-6 6-4. The scoreline shown was out of whack, I guess. Good for Rameez to win, battle of two lower-level challenger players, too bad Matwe couldn't get a win at home.

What the fuck, Simon? You can't beat Bastian? That's like the second or third time he's lost to him. Bastian is a mediocre challenger player. Gotta to do better than that.

He's gonna fall out of the top 100, he needed this result in the worst way. Horrible loss. Hopefully he can find some form before it's too late.

Filo V.
09-10-2010, 05:24 PM
That's true, it is always difficult to play a friend, but Simon is older and better than Bastian, he should have the experience not to allow that to affect him. And he should be better than him anyway, where he just beats him regardless. It's not good enough, his results are not where they need to be. These next two weeks he better find form. I expect a deep run next week in Banja Luka.

Here are some reports from the matches I saw yesterday:

Knittel-Sijsling

This was a really weird match actually. Sijsling was way better in the first set and won it easily with 6-2. He was the favourite in the match so no surprise at all. In the second set Knittel started to play better. He won some nice rallies with tricky shots. He was a break up early but got broken back later on in the set. He had a lot of BP's also but couldn't convert them. In the tie-break it was a clear 50-50 game. Sijsling was able to create a 6-4* lead. On the first match point Knittel produced a good serve and on 6*-5 Sijsling was dominating the rally but he got very unlucky with a netball. Knittel won the tie break with 10-8. In the beginning of the third set it was clear Sijsling couldn't handle it anymore mentally. Knittel played it out professionally and Sijsling wasn't able to put a fight.

Schoorel-Bloemke

I didn't see the whole match. I saw the last game of the first set which Bloemke won with 6-4. When I came back Bloemke lead with 4-1* in the second. So no surprise I wasn't very optimistic about Schoorel's chances to win. When I start watching Bloemke played really bad. Schoorel hasn't to do anything special to make the points. He won the next five games to win the second set with 6-4. In the third set there was no doubt at all that Thomas would take it. He won his serve games very easily with only losing four points in as many serve games. I was very satisfied with this win because Igor couldn't win earlier on the day against a player he should've beat.

Beck-Gensse

By far the best and most entertaining match of the day. In the first set Gensse played great. Everything he did turned out succesful. The rallies these guys played were absolutely great. Beck didn't play that bad in the first set but Gensse just were slightly better. Only on his serve Beck was vulnerable. In the second set Beck served way better and didn't face any BP's. He started to be more agressive and it turned out well. The level of the match kept really high. The third set began great with a long game with 7 or 8 deuces. Both players were also getting emotional which was fun for the visitors. Beck broke Gensse three times and won it with 6-3.
Gensse surprised me with his game. Despite his ranking is not very high he's a good player especially from the baseline. He served 14 aces but he also faced 16 BP's this match so his serving games weren't very convincing. Beck didn't play his best match but it's clear the guy got a lot of talent. I hope he can step it up and can come back to place 50-75 in the rankings.

Huta Galung-Junaid

The match was a bit above average. Not that great but there were some good rallies from the baseline. Both guys have a good single handed backhand and a classy game. Both were serving good and Jesse just faced one BP whole match. First set was very tight and it was important for Jesse to win it. He did it in the tie-break with 7-5. Although he looked a bit frustrated troughout the match without any reason.
The second set Jesse played a bit better and took the opportunities he get. It was pretty tight but overal Jesse was the better player.
Junaid played better than I expected. His game is solid from the baseline and he got a good backhand and serve.

Very hard to say. I think it's a coinflip. Patience is playing really well and Thomas had a lot of trouble against Bloemke. But Thomas won their meeting a couple of weeks ago and will be supported by the crowd. I'll hope that's giving him some confidence.

Great showing from Struff, who I was quite impressed with in Scheveningen.

He already was quite impressing last year in Hamburg qualies. Nice to see he finally got a good result.

Nice all Dutch final. Good luck to both Jesse and Thomas, hopefully they put on a great performance for the crowd.
