Btw, I liked Fed's interview today. This part was nice too

Q. When it was 5‑2 in the first set and the chair engaged with Roddick, how did you cope with that?

ROGER FEDERER: Well, I mean, I'm used to Andy's attitude on court. He's got a great attitude. He has a lot of energy and he always likes to talk to the crowd, make jokes, talk to the umpire. He's a funny guy. I like Andy. We go way back. I enjoy those moments more than they disturb me, really.

hmm. I am not aware of how it is in most countries. In the US, you are paid a stipend and are considered a grad research assistant till you finish. The stipend is a small amount and it cannot be considered as a full time job.

You mean do I always bet on Rafa's opponent? Not really. I just bet a small amount on Verdasco because I am not really sure of who is going to win. Usually if I feel confident then I bet a larger amount:lol:

[QUOTE=tennizen;8089965]hmm. I am not aware of how it is in most countries. In the US, you are paid a stipend and are considered a grad research assistant till you finish. The stipend is a small amount and it cannot be considered as a full time job.

Oh yes. I see, i think then it's much different in the US then. Demonstrators, and assisting lecturers must have bachelor and masters degrees to teach in Unis. the good thing about it is they get fixed full time jobs :). And they go on with their post graduate studies as PHD studies.

I also think the requirement for getting The masters degree differ.It's very close to the requirements of the PHD degree with presenting an original research and all while in other places you have to complete one or two years of academic study.

I actually finished my PhD last week if that is the progress you are talking about:lol:

I wish they had the system of full time uni jobs for post-MS. In the US they exist but very few.

The MS degree requirements are the same though. I had to do original research and a thesis along with coursework.

I don't have any concrete plans. I want to work in the industry for a while but its incredibly difficult to get a job. I don't want to apply for faculty because my energy and ambition have totally been drained during my PhD. So I guess I will settle for a post doc and crappy salary. But even uni's are not hiring because of this economy:lol:

Sorry, Noura:o :lol: Actually, its not only that. In the US, getting a faculty position and keeping it is not at all easy. The ratio of PhD's to faculty positions is very high. And I want to have kids soon and it conflicts with that as well:o

Sorry, Noura:o :lol: Actually, its not only that. In the US, getting a faculty position and keeping it is not at all easy. The ratio of PhD's to faculty positions is very high. Plus the faculty have to struggle so much for funding that only the most driven survive. Added to that, I have location constraints. And I want to have kids soon and it conflicts with that as well:o

All the best Hema. :hug:

I am fine. I have decided just to ignore the doping comments this year (okay, maybe a few :retard: smilies for the really stupid comments) and the next step will be not even to click on the threads.

My heart sinks when I read that Rafa has been speaking out against WADA :sobbing: I read the newest one last night on vb, and it was only about 40 minutes later that MY posted it on GM. I'll presume you mean Verdasco. He does, if he carries on playing the way he has been. I don't think he will though, partly because it's his first slam SF and partly because Rafa is a bad match-up for him, he's been using the swinging serve out wide a lot this week but it plays into Rafa's forehand nicely.

Adam, I want to ask you: what is advantage and deuce court? :awww: *clueless fangirl*
Deuce court is the side of the court they always serve to on the first point of the game - if it goes to deuce, they're always serving to that same side e.g. Right to left (on 0-0, then 30-0, 30-30, deuce).....Advantage court is the point they'll always be serving to on the 2nd point of the game and when it's advantage e.g. Left to right (0-15, 15-30, 40-adv). Did that make sense? :unsure:

i always think of it from the server's pov, the ad court runs diagonally from his left side to the receiver's right. the deuce court runs diagonally from the server's right side to the receiver's left.

maybe this diagram will be clear?

I think Andreea has been on the :drink: tonight :lol:

Ok Andreea think of it like this. You know they switch sides where they're serving to after each point? Well the first point will always be from the red arrow on WG's diagram. So will the 3rd point of the game. And the 5th. So basically all the odd numbers. The advantage court, as shown by the yellow arrow on WG's diagram will always be where the 2nd, 4th, 6th etc. point of the game is started from.

Nice place to visit, this unacceptable land. Better yet to live there. ;)

if you guys would suspend disbelief for one second and think of one of your numpties (say nalby) suddenly getting a handle on his potential and playing on a hot streak, i would hope you wouldn't mind if he wins either :banana: unlike nalby, nando doesn't even have many MM titles to his name :awww: he's just been a numpty for most of his life :hug:

Nando has led a life of struggle, this is true. If he'd only kept his clothes on while knee-deep in numpty, I would have more respect for him. He's a better himbo than a potential champion. :awww: :hug:

I think he said he felt the backhand slice gave Simon more trouble than topspin. Anyway, I'm very nervous for Rafa tonight. I don't think it's a sure win by any means. Verdasco might keep his brains tonight. So, I'm really anxious about the match.

However, if by some curse of a jealous god, Nadal loses tonight, I will jump on the Verdasco Train and hope it rides to the finish.

I'm just super annoyed that if he wins tonight, Nadal will have to play Federer. Tomas, I blame you. :mad:

This is not meant specifically for scoobs but I don't understand the mods attitude towards GM. Even I can tell in a single glance at the GM first page which thread is meant to be trolling and which is relatively serious. I don't mean to say delete all threads you deem trolling material. But if a mod is taking action on a reported post/thread how much additional time does it take to scan through the other threads and determine if there are others like that: If that is not possible, then leave all threads alone. Another thing to do is to set a time each day, check GM, remove useless threads and keep the relatively good ones:shrug: I don't understand their need to depend on reporting:shrug:

Edit: This is not because I am obsessing over my thread deletion still. This is general concern:lol:

this is not meant as a slam on scoobsy either, personally i think he's the only one still actively modding on GM but that's likely a mistaken impression.

part of it i'm sure depends on how many folks mod and what time shifts they take. so maybe a couple are completely lax and others are more stringent? i too agree that while reporting posts can help mods keep a pulse on reader's reactions to posts it cannot be the only thing that they use to mod. i sincerely hope not because that would just be a really unreliable way to mod. they've got to be more proactive.

I think it was- because as 1 and 2 they were always on the opposite sides of the draw in the tournies they both played in.

*AO- neither made it to the final
* Rotterdam- neither make it (did Roger play?)
* Dubai- neither makes it to the final
*IW- neither made it to the final
* Miami- Roger did not make it to the final and Rafa got spanked in the final
* MC- Rafa wins
* Rome- neither makes it to the final
* Hamburg - Rafa wins
* RG- Rafa
* Wimbledon- Rafa
* Toronto - Roger does not make it to the fina
* Cincy- neither makes it to the final
* USO- Rafa does not make it to the final
* Madrid- neither makes it to the final

After reading back through all the Rafa loyalty stuff I feel compelled to say... although I'm a Hewitt tard and have been for years... I still wanted to wring his neck during the 07 Hamburg semis :rolls:

Nando baby, I've been rooting for you all the way, and I'm very happy for you for making it this far, but please lose tonight :hug:

Seems like Rafa will be the one struggling to hold serve throughout while Nando kinda cruises. Not good.

Verdasco has picked up where he left off with Tsonga and Murray. :scared: :unsure:

Rafa will have to take his performance to a higher level...
