And a say "new one" cause Fred this year is doing everything he can not to play on Hard and Grass. I think the only tournament that he's not playing in clay (beside the GS) was Miami and Doha (both ATP level). All the other tournaments was on clay... First not clay challenger of the season, so yes, "new one"...

Two applications from one player? Is it according to the ATP rules? Should player decide before applying what ranking, protected or normal, he will use?

Fred always plays Istanbul. He loves this tournament so much that he playe Washington, then he went to Europe to play Istanbul and flew back to the US to play New Haven.

His schedule is the same every year: European clay challengers + mandatory tournaments where he can get in + occasional ATP tournaments where he can get in. He didn't play more ATP tournaments outside clay this season because he dropped out of the Top 100 and so couldn't be in the main draw and didn't want to play qualies. You will see him playing New Haven (even qualies if necessary) and don't be surprised if he plays a couple of indoor ATP tournaments in the fall if he keeps his ranking inside the Top 70 at least.

Yes, it's according to the rules. Actually, it's very common. Players have a limited number of times they can use their PR, so they will always try to get in with their normal ranking. Of course the latter is often highly unlikely, but it is worth a shot.

Cool main draw.

The top section is clearly the weakest section, outside of Mannarino and Olli. After watching the condition Olli was in at the end of his match in San Marino, I can see Munoz De La Nava winning that R1 match.

Marsel is at home and should do well here, but I predict Gremelmayr out of the 3rd section.

The second section is filled with my favorites. I hope Nicolas is ready to play after suffering from ankle issues yesterday. Dustin is defending 133 points the next three weeks. A bad performance here will drop him well out of the top 100, so we'll see what happens with him. I hope Mischa does well in this tournament. I predict Dodig or Kunitsyn from this section.

Hopefully Marc does well here also, he needs a good tournament.

Good luck to all of my favorites!

It is a pretty good draw with good players especially in the 2nd quarter and with interesting matches like the ones between Brown-Bastl, Dodig-Mahut and hipotetically in the 2nd round between Zverev with the winner of Bastl-Brown and Kunitsyn vs the winner of Mahut- Dodig.

Ollie Rochus shouldn`t have many troubles to reach the semifinals.

On the bottow half of the draw there are some interesting matches like the ones between Lojda-Gremelmayr, Fischer-Christophe Rochus, Gicquel-Bohli and Kuku-Hernych.

That will be interesting to see what Sergeyev can do in a tournament with players ranked in the top 200.

Nice week to be in Istambul :)

Hopefully Denis takes out Kuku in R2. Too bad Jan can't win matches anymore.

Mischa, like I said, get it together. Probably the worst loss in this slump, on a fucking fast hard court. Cannot believe he lost that match.

Nicolas should have withdrawn from this event instead of attempting to play, hopefully he's fit enough for the US Open.

Dustin is one of the most limited baseliners and most erratic Top 100 players the ATP has ever met. If Joćo is capable of keeping the ball in play and get a good read from Dustin's serve, he may have a shot.

Facing Brown after having faced another S&V'er in the first round will also help him.

Yes, but the best results of Dustin (and the reason why is a top 100) it's because of Hard surface matches. If it was on clay, i will say that it's like a bye, but on hard is a total different thing. Altough, IMO that Sousa is a very decent player on Hard surface, and he has already a Future tittle this season on that surface, so it's not impossible. But very hard, indeed...

Andre♥

Yes, but the best results of Dustin (and the reason why is a top 100) it's because of Hard surface matches. If it was on clay, i will say that it's like a bye, but on hard is a total different thing. Altough, IMO that Sousa is a very decent player on Hard surface, and he has already a Future tittle this season on that surface, so it's not impossible. But very hard, indeed...

Not exactly true what you said about Dustin.

First of all, most of Dustin's points come from the end of the 2009 season, where he was playing extremely well. Besides that, barring a great showing in Johannesburg (both in the ATP and ITF tournaments), Dustin hasn't done anything special on hardcourt this season, with recent losses to Stoppini and Stadler, two players who aren't playing better than Joćo right now.

Dustin is extremely dangerous on very fast surfaces like grass, indoors or fast hardcourt surfaces, but he is extremely vulnerable on slow hardcourt surfaces like this one in Istanbul. If Joćo keeps putting the ball in play and gets a good read from Dustin's first serve, then he can surely win.

Expected win for Joao. Dustin simply isn't consistent enough, and his ranking is about to take a really major slide in the wrong direction. Joao too solid for an erratic player like Dustin.

do you really think Ilhan is not fixing? THE TURK TRIED TO FIX FROM THE 2ND SET ON 4-4, but the other player was just to poor to finish it!

Well, i analysed this match in the morning and Ilhan really wasn't so big favorite in this match. Just only that he played at home, but this was only one advantage for him. Yesterday i bet on Ilhan against Javier Marti and he played very tough match. Marti is nothing but Ilhan had problems with him. Ilhan isn't in very good shape, not like russian Kravchuk. Kravchuk is good server and can sometimes play excellent match, like this year with Gilles Muller. Last week Gimeno Traver had problems with this russian, so, today Ilhan - Kravchuk match was typicall no bet, and no one script of this game couldn't surprised me. This Kravchuk can beat Ilhan in this shape and without fixing, this is 100%.

This match wasn't fixed, and I know it for only one data.

Marti is a spanish junior player. I know him very well, I've seen him playing several times, even I've interviewed him one year ago for a magazine.
This guy is absolutelly NULL on hard courts, is a typical clay-courter without basis on fast surfaces. Even he told me that if plays theses tournaments is for learning.

What am I telling this for? Because if ilhan only won 6-4 7-6 against this guy, this just can mean one thing --> Ilhan is awful for any reason, nevertheless.
So, playing against a good player on hard courts is totally logic his defeat today.

Akkoyun was up 3-0 in the last set and also had 0-30 on Ungur's serve. Then at 4-3, Akkoyun couldn't convert 3 bps. At 5-4, Akkoyun caught 30-30 on Ungur's serve...
