Just saw today in ATP website that Guadio is qualified for Houston. How does it work for him to jump above Guille and Moya? Or does a grandslam winner automatically get the privilege?! Please, anyone, enlighten me. Thanks.

It's very easy to why Gaston qualified for Houston, he won a Slam and will fit into this respective category.

The top seven finishers in the ATP Champions Race 2004 will qualify. The eighth place will go to the highest-placed Grand Slam winner who finishes outside the top seven but within the top 20. If no player fits this classification, the eighth place will go to the player finishing eighth in the ATP Champions Race 2004.

Therefore Gaudio has no points to defend and will easily finish within the top 20 and will go to Houston.

We've got 4 players already qualified (Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, since their current INDESIT ATP RACE points guarantee that they’ll finish the season into the Top 7), and Gaudio being a GS wildcard.
Only other 4 players will have chance of looking forward to qualify. After his USE performance I think that Henman has chance , and also Carlos if he achieves good results in the indoor season. The Guille’s qualification will depend on what the other players can reach, since he is inactive for his surgery.

Excuseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee me for living and asking!!!!!!!!! Kandykane...I'm not very fond of Gaudio at all but I'm asking because he shouldn't be qualified ahead of my Guille.

Also, thank you so much for the explanation, FryslanBobbe. I always thought they were for the top 8 in ATP race. Thanks.

Well, I think I know it's my mistake to put the thread that way...It should be 'Curious about Guadio qualified for Houston ahead of Guille' . Sorry about that. I'll shut up now.

iloveguille, I found this this morning. I'm very doubt why Gaudio qualified so quickly. but somebody helped me immediatly. hehe... When I saw this I have the same question as you.
Four are confirmed. I hope Guille can stay #7 until he play in Paris. If he don't, the Paris will be the last chance, Right?

He will loose a couple points because of Basilea, but other than that he doesn't have a lot to defend in the indoor season

Guille said about possibly being at TMC:
"I could be if I get there trained. But I don’t know if I’m going to train…

Historically, with the points I have, one should be 6th or 7th, but as players below me are winning….. Anyway, I don’t think about that. To wish that others lose to get in is ridiculous."

Riiiiiiiiiight...that's OUR job Guille  I'll post the whole interview for y'all :)
