I've heard there's going to be a tennis exhibition in London at Wembley Arena on Sunday 3rd October...does anyone know anything more about this???

Croatia’s Mario Ancic, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon this year, has confirmed that he will replace Spaniard Rafael Nadal in London’s Superset Tennis event on Sunday October 3rd at Wembley Arena.

Nadal, currently on the road to recovery, after spending almost three months out of the game due to a left foot injury, has had to withdraw from Superset due to unforseen personal reasons. However he is eagerly anticipating the next Superset event where he hopes to participate.

His replacement, Ancic, ruined British hopes at Wimbledon earlier this year beating Tim Henman in straight sets to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final. He will be looking to continue his recent run of form, which saw him win a doubles bronze medal last month in Athens, along with compatriot Ivan Ljibicic.

Joining 20-year-old Ancic at Wembley for the one day Superset spectacle are British Nos 1 & 2 Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski, former Wimbledon Champions Boris Becker, John McEnroe and Goran Ivanisevic, along with Tommy Robredo and Robbie Ginepri.

The eight players will battle it out in a one day, one set, sudden death elimination contest to win the greatest per-set prize money in tennis history - £250,000 for the winner.

The tournament will be shown live on Sky Sports with highlights on BBC1’s Grandstand.

What's on at Superset Tennis


Adding to the fast action and tension the crowd will be part of an entertainment experience like no other in modern day tennis. For the first time the court will be lit exclusively for the players on a custom designed Superset arena.


The audience will have access to unprecedented technology such as Hawkeye Heart Rate Monitoring, Dartfish Simulcam replays and GoCam taking the battle to a player eye view through giant screens.

For the first time players will be able to have their coaches on court together with the ability to access Hawkeye Line Replay to adjudicate upon close or questionable calls.

Balanced throughout the event is a light and sound experience that works integrally with the fast pace of the action, culminating in the greatest set of tennis in the world, the Superset Final.

i'm still so tempted to go to that but it is so expensive but robby and john mcenroe at teh same event i don't know if i can resist it!

how much are the tickets?

its expensive considering its not even for the day but only 3 hour sessions, i would have gone. but university starts for me next week so i cant really go (night session will finish at 11pm) then its like 3 hours to get home :D

prices are
2.30pm–5.30pm Individual session tickets: £25, £40, £60
7.30pm–10.30pm
Ticket to both sessions: £42, £64, £96

considering its 25, 40, 60 for 3 hours is a total ripp off. its not worth going to unless you pay for both sessions

Good to get a fair bit of TV coverage: I cannot honestly see Goran playing. Is he really going to want to come out of retirement to play this? His final memory of playing on Wimbledon Centre Court will be something he'll never forget. But would losing early on in an exhibition 1 set event under bright lights really appeal to him now?
And Boris: He is not exactly making a great impact on the Seniors Tour, let alone against these guys. O.k the entire layout and rules are very different, but will he be able to keep up with the pace?

apart from the fact we get to see greg, this is so boring! i thought it was meant to be more exciting?! jesus... that serving for serve was a pretty poor idea. or even though, the announcer did a bad job.. im not usually this critical, its just can you see how many empty seats there are there???? esp in the expensive areas!

No, Grand slams should not take on this format, by any means, and there are no plans whatsoever to do so. The best of five sets, with 4 tiebreak sets at 6-6 and a long final set is what makes a grand slam a grand slam, and so unique.
