Ivanatis

Tipsy with a very easy victory in round 1 :scared:
but yeah, lets look at Sweeting first

Ivanatis
07-29-2010, 05:29 AM
Marco sucked, but won.

Ivanatis
07-31-2010, 12:26 AM
expected loss, 3-6 5-7 against Tipsy

I guess with the current shape of Marcos we have to be happy with this QF (doesn't get much easier than bye and Sweeting anyway)

Ivanatis
08-06-2010, 01:00 AM
hi, say Tom btw:)

Marcos is so lucky with the draw here
if he beats Marchenko, the worst what could happen in the QF would be a struggling Verdasco

Baghdatis#1
08-06-2010, 01:04 AM
Okay then, hello Tom! :wavey:
I'm Andrew btw :p

Marcos holds for 1-0* ;)

And Marcos got REALLY lucky here :D
And Verdasco barely beat Berrer and now he's down a break to Sweeting so things are looking REALLY good for Marcos if he can beat Marchenko here :D

Baghdatis#1
08-06-2010, 01:06 AM
Marchenko holds for 1-1 :(
Also, did you guys see the stats from the Marcos-Zeballos match? 17 aces for Marcos

I was at the beach on Sunday, and then I went back to the hotel room to watch the match. I got there when it was 3-2 Nalbandian in the first set. As you guys know, Marcos lost the set 6-2. Then Marcos was up a break in the second set, and then there was that really long game that he lost, and then he was down in the second set and I couldn't take it anymore so I went back to the beach. stranger777
08-21-2010, 04:04 AM
Wow, Baghdatis has stunned everyone to beat the number 1 player in the world!
Nadal was in good shape, and even said himself that he feels as fit as he's ever been for this tournament. So there is no excuse on his side of the camp to say he was not at his best form!!

Simply great playing by Marcos, what a fantastic match. 18 aces, and although 62% 1st serve is nothing to be fond of, it was good because Marcos averaged below 50% for the previous few games I think and he needed to pick up his first serve abit if he was to have any chance to beat Rafa.

He has now beaten the best players in the world, Federer, Nadal, Berdych, Davydenko, Roddick, Murray... If he just kept some consistency he would also be one of the best in the world, but honestly this is a huge breakthrough!

Now he comes up against Roger Federer. Of course he is beatable but I think again Marcos will have to be at his very best. Roger is the previous champion here and there is no way that he will want to lose to Marcos twice in a row and lose the chance to play in the final.
Even if Marcos loses though, he has ALREADY done better than most expected and I would still be happy for his progress, even if he loses. He will again go into the match as underdog but with confidence, and really he has not much to lose.

Well done Marcos, this is great preperation for the US open! He should get a descent draw, hopefully, and fingers crossed that he can go far.

He was nowhere near as competative against Federer than he was against Nadal, in particular his first serve % was only 28% in the 2nd set.

If Marcos can work on this and be more consistent with his serves then he can make a huge impact at the US Open. But we will wait and see.

Of course we should all be proud, he had a very difficult draw at Cincinnati and to have made it to the Semi finals is impressive, great work Marcos!

bad luck to marcos, he didnt play too bad, it was just his 1st serve percentage that let him down.
with the draw he had, i did not expect him to make it anywhere near the semis.. well done! :yeah:

good luck for the rest of the season, and hopefully we see a rank close to where he was at in 2006, in the not too distant future

didnt watch the match, but from the stat sheet it looks to me as if the main problem wasnt his 1st-serve-%, but that he made so few points when he actuylly got his 1st serve in

Well, I have mixed feelings about Marcos playing the Pilot Pen Open this coming week in New Haven. It looks like he will be playing, no?

It's a shame that tennis isn't very popular in New York, otherwise there would be tons of Greeks there today at Louis Armstrong Stadium since there are over 1,000,000 Greeks living in the New York area . From the people I know, a lot of the adults love tennis and go to the US Open and play tennis a lot, but not too many kids play organized tennis, just really for fun a few times a year or something
They all know Marcos, but they don't go to his matches or anything

I don't think New Haven is to blame . If he lost in R3 or R4 maybe, but his last match in New Haven was 5 days before his first in New York, so plenty of time to rest

Ivanatis
09-05-2010, 02:55 AM
I think it is. Maybe not necessarily from the physical point of view, but having the New Haven week completely off and being able to travel there early and have a whole week to get used to everything would have been a massive help, especially with Clement being such a tough opponent as we know now.

Baghdatis#1
09-15-2010, 02:11 AM

Marcos seems to have decided to play every week until New York:

July 25-31, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.
August 1-7, Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
August 8-14, Toronto, Canada
August 15-21, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.
August 22-28, Winston-Salem Open, U.S.A.
August 29-September 11, New York, New York, U.S.A.

Toronto: 10 pts

He has so much to defend and if he keeps playing crappy, he'll fall out of the top 75 :tape:

Doubles R1: Baghdatis/Russell d. Semenzato/Torres 6-0 7-6 :)

And good that he's playing every week. He needs all the points he can get :o
And he won't feel obliged to play Winston-Salem like New Haven last year. So if he does well and plays a lot, then he can just withdraw from Winston-Salem :)

Maximum Effort To Reach Quarters

Marcos was forced to call on all his fighting qualities and high levels of fitness Thursday to earn his place in the quarter-finals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. After rain had allowed him just one game on Wednesday evening, he returned to record two three-set victories in hot conditions in Washington D.C., to reach the last eight.

"I'm really happy to get through two matches in one day,” said Marcos. “It's nice to know all the hard physical work I've been doing has been worthwhile."

First up was Somdev Devvarman in the second round. Marcos was looking to make amends for the defeat he suffered to Devvarman in Indian Wells this season, and made the perfect start to their third meeting as he quickly clinched the opening set with two breaks of serve. However, India’s Devvarman struck back strongly in the second set and reeled off six straight games to level the match.

Marcos did well to halt Devvarman’s growing momentum and looked to have made the decisive break in the match when he went up 4-3 in the final set. Serving for the match in the 10th game, though, Marcos was challenged again by the No. 65-ranked Devvarman, who broke back to draw level. Undeterred, Marcos immediately regained his advantage and, at the second time of asking, served out the 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 victory in just over two hours.

After a couple of hours rest, Marcos then returned to court to face Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci, who had beaten Tommy Haas in three sets in the second round earlier in the day. World No. 36 Bellucci made the better start to the match, converting one of his two break points to take the opening set.

Strong serving from Marcos gave him the foundation to recover, though. Overall he hit won 83 per cent of points behind his first serve, including 15 aces, and lost only 12 more points on serve in the second and third sets. He broke Bellucci once in the second set, and three times more in the third as he claimed the 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory in one hour and 38 minutes.

Through to his fourth ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season, Marcos will face American Donald Young on Friday. It will be their first meeting after World No. 128 Young defeated countryman Michael Russell 6-3, 6-3.

“I expect a tough match tomorrow,” said Marcos. “Young has nothing to lose and will be the crowd favourite, but I fought really hard today and am going to do the same tomorrow.”

The match is scheduled to take place on Stadium court Friday, beginning not before 5:00pm local time (9pm GMT, midnight Cyprus).
