Ugh, Simone and Pippo are on the same side of the draw

Pippo and Chris playing R1, but Chris is just fixing matches now and retiring at the end of the year. Pippo needs to have a good tournament here, he has a VERY good draw for 3 rounds. Hopefully the winner of Pippo/Simone if they play wins the title.

I would die to see Machi v. Haase R2, that will be a great match. And the two Portuguese players may play R2. Lastly, what can Poto do here being in the final of Umag? It's a cool draw, very intriguing tournament.

This is a great draw with great players for a Challenger tournament (well, traditionally it is year after year).
I agree with flyboy that Haase with Machi would be a nice match to see. I would like to see Schoorel with Starace, Bemelmans with Gil and Flavio with Ollie.

Yeah, it`s a shame but Diego was out of the tour for a while due to injuries and I don`t think he will be able to return back to his former level ( I saw him in a future this year in Argentina and his tennis was really far away of the player he used to be)

And after that QF clash in Estoril, it will be Machado vs. Fred in 2nd round. Gil it's clearly the favourite, but i think Rui will do everything to prove that is better or at least as good as Gil... I wish the better man wins, and I think the better one, nowadays, it's Gil, but let's wait and see.

Great win for Olli in dominating fashion over Di Mauro 6-2 6-0. Flavio winning today was much needed for him, but I can't see him beating Olli, similar games, and Olli's is better. Rui has been playing horribly but I wouldn't be surprised to see him defeat Fred. Nearly losing to Alund is a bad sign, however.

Aguilar is a real threat to Simone in R2, hopefully he disposes of Lojda quickly tomorrow.

Simone, win set 3 man! This dude isn't good, no excuse to lose here.

Robin may have issues beating Machi, hopefully I can see that match. Could go either way. If Robin is tired from previous weeks that will make a critical difference.

Filo V.
08-03-2010, 10:10 PM
Lojda is annoying. He's pretty lame as a player.

Simone has had opportunities in all of his serve games in the 3rd but hasn't gotten the break yet. 4-3 Simone.

Filo V.
08-03-2010, 10:16 PM
Lojda breaks, serving for the match at 5-4.

I can't believe Simone is on the brink of losing to a player of this level, in his home country. Utterly ridiculous.

I know :o

But he's definitely tired from last week, or at least looked it. I mean, I don't see him winning today, yesterday was a bad day at the office. If you watched the first set v. Verdasco in Rome earlier this year, you can see he still has talent. But his consistency is totally gone and of course, he still is a bad returner off the backhand.

I thought about this match in the morning, of course, it was typical no bet match because there played 2 fixers from Portugal but i had 1 mind - if they would fix bigger odds should win. But of course i didn't risk cause there could happened everytihnig in that 2 fixers from one country match. I didn't saw match, i don't say that it was fix i just talk about odds and my minds in the morning about this match :)

 Very surprise win by Rui. Especially cause it was a dominate one. Gil was in very good shape (not pathetic as some say here), and Machado with very bad results.

I didn't saw the match, but Gil in the end, admited that Rui was playing very well and wiht lots of intensity, and the Rui was too good for him. So, a very dominant perfomance.

Well, anyway, i'm very happy for Rui and hope the this win will be a boost for his cofindence, for the rest of the season. Top 100 it's still possible if he can regain the shape of the first months of the season...

Robin was really loose today and Machi made him work, but Robin had too much game for Machi to cope.

6-2 3-6 6-3 Haase.

Filo V.
08-04-2010, 07:06 PM
Also, Machi NEEDS to improve his volleys. He likes to play that offensive grinder game, but if you can't finish points off at the net, then you aren't going places. Hopefully both Robin and Machi can re-enter the top 100 soon.

62 36 63 Robin. Almost huge choke on the end by Robin with 0-40 when he tried to serve it out. I can't trust the guy any moment when I'm watching his games.

Filo V.
08-04-2010, 07:17 PM
I don't know anything about Fred or Rui being fixers. It's usually the same names of Crazy Dani, Chris Rochus, MVA, King.

Anyway, I actually believed Rui would win today, because I thought Fred would be unmotivated. At the start of the match, Fred was the better player. But then Rui stepped up his level and got more aggressive and just was too good for Fred, who dropped his level and didn't do much to fight back. They hugged at the end, which was nice.

I don't see Rui beating Haase. Robin should overpower him.

It was awful, but he's tired so I'll give him a pass. But I want him to win one of these Italian challengers, he should do well with the pretty weak fields. Hopefully he wins Genova, that's the one I think he can do well at. And he should also play Bucharest after the US Open.

I understand you frustration and I don`t have any expectations any longer for Aguilar but just check his last results: Not only he beated Bolelli but Ungur too and Berlocq in Cordenons last week. Ranked 182 is the highest position of his career and probably is playing his best tennis ever for a player that regularly did it on Futures. The guy deserves some credit.

Riba def. Trevisan 6-2 6-3
Starace def. Junqueira 6-3 6-3

QF Lineup:
Starace v. Berlocq
Haase v. Machado
Volandri v. Riba
Aguilar v. Cipolla

I hope to God that Pippo can defeat Pere, especially with the potentially easy SF match, but he mostly likely cannot do it. He'll need to play one of his better matches. The winner of Charly v. Starace and Pere are the clear favorites for the title.

Filippo won a hard fought 6-3 6-7(7) 7-6(3) victory over Semrajc! At this point, any win for Pippo is a good one. He better hope Riba/Trevisan is a tight tough match.

Also Charly defeated Dasnieres de Veigy 6-1 6-2.

They played a tight match a few weeks ago when Charly was on his good run in challengers. I can see Charly winning, but only in straight sets. If it goes three Poto will win the match. Tiredness is the one factor that gives Charly more of a chance. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins. The winner of the match should make the final also.

Oh no, Aguilar is decent for the challenger level. I actually knew he would win. He has a good forehand. But he wasn't playing great and Simone was outplaying him, until it mattered most; that is what upset me, the missed opportunities.

Beyond expected. Robin literally treated Rui like a rag doll. Way too much power, was moving Rui all around and simply is too good for Rui to handle. Congrats on the win Robin, he's getting closer and closer to the top 100.

Yeah, h2h and players' shape should say that Starace will crush Berlocq but you know - this is Starace and with him you never are sure what could happen :) He is old fixer and for me this match is so unpredictable that i'm not be very suprised if he would lose today against Berlocs. Typical no bet game.

Yes, definitely Poto is the favorite. The only question is whether the amount of matches he's played lately catches up to him. Also, he played late last night so that could also be a factor. But in terms of talent level there is no comparison or argument.

Fucking HELL Pippo. Fucking hell.

A 4-0 lead, opportunity for a 5-0 lead, chances to win the set on Pere's serve, serving for the set, yet being broken back to back times to lose it. So, so damn disappointing.

Pere is doing virtually nothing but keeping the ball in, and hitting some decent serves. Pippo seriously blew it here.

I think Pere is injured, long break with the trainer at the end of set 1, terrible opening service game. Hopefully he wins the match now.

Congrats on the SF Cipo!

Pippo *4-1 up. Now *5-4.

Pippo should and I think will win. H2H in his favor, and he has more weapons and the consistency to not be as wild as Aguilar for instance. I like Cipo a lot, but this is the type of match Pippo needs to win.

As far as Poto and Robin, may the best man win! I think Poto will win because he always does in these Italian challengers.

I knew that, but isn't San Marino Italian speaking/cultured? That's what I always assumed.

Cipo won set 3 6-3.

Pippo had a point for a *4-3 but didn't take it. Flavio really isn't doing much, which is why I will be beyond pissed if Filippo loses this. It looks like Flavio is starting to get into Pippo's head. The best part of Cipo's game is that he's annoying for players to play against and even to watch quite a bit; and that isn't an insult.

Filo V.

Pippo, thank God, won that disgusting match 7-6(4) 3-6 6-2.

Pippo's game is not there at all, but he shows flashes of his former level. But he's finding a way to win. Today he simply was the better player when he didn't make errors. He needs to get the range back in his game, because it's completely gone at this point.

Congrats to Flavio on the great week.

Yeah, it`s a shame but Diego was out of the tour for a while due to injuries and I don`t think he will be able to return back to his former level ( I saw him in a future this year in Argentina and his tennis was really far away of the player he used to be)

That match from Haase better than the level I've seen from most ATP events this summer. Hit the ball hard, with consistent depth, his front to back movement is excellent, volleyed well, served well. He was in full flight tonight. When he's on, he's a serious threat to anyone.

Filo V.

I can't see how Pippo wins more than around 5 games +/- a few. Robin will smack his serve around like a pinata and will probably overpower him too much.

I respect and loved the fighting from Pippo, but it wasn't anywhere close to good enough. He had a set point in that tiebreak and the match could have gotten interesting. But as I expected, his serve was demolished consistently, and he couldn't get in many rallies. Robin wasn't nearly as good as yesterday but it was enough to get the job done.

Both Robin and Pippo are back in the top 100, so this has been a great week for both! Congrats to Robin on the win, next year he won't need to worry about playing challengers anymore, I'm sure.
