Lost to Querrey in Los Angeles, won Toronto and has now lost to Fish for the 3rd time in a row this year in Cincinnati :o

On to the US Open :)
He can defend the US Open R4 last year and get some major points here, and even win it :D

GL Andy :yeah:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles, California

1st: BYE
2nd: def. Tim SMYCZEK (USA) 6-1 4-6 6-2
QFs: def. Alejandro FALLA (COL) 7-6(3) 6-1
SFs: def. Feliciano LOPEZ (ESP) [4] 6-0 1-6 6-4
Fin: lt. Sam QUERREY (USA) [2] 7-5 6-7(2) 4-6

A disappointing week for Andy, struggled throughout the week with second set blips all over the place.
Had a match point against Querrey in the second, but couldn't convert, and ultimately lost the match :o

Hard-ish draw in Toronto, with Ferrer, Gulbis, Nalbandian and Soderling all in his quarter all of them possible quarterfinal opponents :o
Is defending his no.4 ranking and a title here :tape:

Toronto Masters, Ontario

1st: BYE
2nd: def. Xavier MALISSE (BEL) 7-5 6-2
3rd: def. Gael MONFILS (FRA) [15] 6-2 0-6 6-3
QFs: def. David NALBANDIAN (ARG) 6-2 6-2
SFs: def. Rafael NADAL (SPA) [1] 6-3 6-4
Fin: def. Roger FEDERER (SWI) [3] 7-5 7-5

Wins his 5th MS title, his first title of the year and 15th title overall :yeah:
h2h vs. Federer is now 7-5, while his h2h vs. Nadal is now 4-8 :)
Fuck yeah :rocker2:

Easy quarter on paper, in Cincinnati, but could be very difficult if he has lapses.

Cincinnati Masters, Ohio

1st: BYE
2nd: def. Jeremy CHARDY (FRA) 6-3 6-7(3) 6-2
3rd: def. Ernests GULBIS (LAT) 4-6 6-3 7-6(4)
QFs: lt. Mardy FISH (USA) [WC] 7-6(7) 1-6 6-7(5)

Very disappointing result, was close to winning.
He has now lost to Fish 3 fucking times in a row this year, which he shouldn't be doing :(
Anyway, has a week off now before US Open starts :D
On to the final slam of the year where he'll be seeded 4th :rocker2:

US Open, New York

1st: def. Lukas Lacko (SVK) 6-3 6-2 6-2
2nd: def. Dustin Brown (JAM) 7-5 6-3 6-0
3rd: lt. Stanislas Wawrinka (SWI) [25] 7-6(3) 6-7(4) 3-6 3-6

Terrible, terrible performance against Wawrinka, but credit to Stanislas :worship:

So ends the American hardcourt season for Andy, and a pretty disappointing end.
On to the last part of the year - The Road to WTF :scared:

GL for the rest of the year, Andy :yeah:

Last time he had a break of this sort of length was after the Aussie, let's hope this return will be a little bit more fruitful.

Don't you guys think it's too long a break? Wouldn't he be better off to play one tournament in preparation of the TMSs? LA, like Djokovic does?

scoobs
07-22-2010, 04:36 PM
I don't know...it seems like he tends to feel better after he's had a break and done a heavy training block, it seems to put him in the right frame of mind. Hopefully the post-Australia blues are long behind him and he's getting ready for a serious assault on the US Open

I'm not expecting anything from him, therefore I can only be happy at what he does accomplish :) Vamos Andy :D

Andy has parted ways with Miles Maclagan.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/8860446.stm

Interesting decision and timing....

There is some suggestion that it is Miles who initiated the split after becoming unhappy that Alex Corretja was gaining more and more influence, but I'm not convinced about that, the coach dumping the player in this case would be very unusual, unless there were other reasons - travel, etc.

MsTree
07-27-2010, 08:24 PM
Just saw it on Twitter. The beeb article makes it sound all very amicable!
Pity though, Miles is nice eyecandy to have courtside

Turquoise
07-28-2010, 07:06 AM
I'm going to miss Miles. Eyecandy, as MsTree said  I was hoping that he would be the one initiating the split, being the honourable thing to do. There comes a time when a coach cannot take a player to that extra step even if he's doing all the right things. No matter the circumstances, I wish Miles the best of success in his future endeavours. I do hope that Andy will be primed psychologically and physically for the US Open and that the coaching issue will be resolved sooner than later.

Murray 61 46 62

First set was very comfortable.

Second set should have been but he seemed to back off a bit like he so often does when it's all coming easy, and it stops coming easy.

He definitely was struggling with the hip or groin though in the third set, totally softballing in serves by the end and not moving well at all. Probably the usual surface adjustment niggles that he always seems to get. Hopefully he can work those out of his system this week and be good to go in Toronto.

Should make quarters easy and then revenge against Soderling. But he hasn't played any HC-matches for a long time, he can also crash out against Nalbandian.

I think Murray can do very well here, because he played LA. He is the only top player who has some matches under his belt, hopefully that advantage pays off.

I really dislike Rafa's pink shirt it's worse than that bright yellow one that Gilles and Stan were wearing for a while.

scoobs
08-14-2010, 07:39 PM
yeah it's nasty.

Cloudygirl
08-14-2010, 07:41 PM
it's distracting I keep looking at his shirt instead of the ball. Maybe it's a deliberate ploy against his opponents ;)

scoobs
08-14-2010, 07:48 PM
couple of bps for Nadal here.

scoobs
08-14-2010, 07:56 PM
both have now had narrow escapes on serve.

Andy doesn't know how narrow - one bp he served a double but it wasn't called and Rafa failed to challenge the second serve - he's a lucky boy.

scoobs
08-14-2010, 08:01 PM
Murray breaks for *5-3 and will serve for the set.

He is struggling, Nadal, serving very poorly and it's dragging his whole game down.

I don't think I've ever seen Nadal serve in the 40s.

Cloudygirl
08-14-2010, 08:02 PM
if Rafa finds his serve Andy will be in trouble but if not Andy will win.

MsTree

First set Andy 6-3

3 aces, a DF and then a big forehand winner to seal the set, nicely done.

It's very great and important to see Andy can beat Federer in the final. :hearts: Also great to beat Nadal and Nalbandian in the same tourney.
He has to improve his first serve percentage and drop shots but glad he played aggressive style and was quite good at crucial points.I'm impressed by his backhand the most. The first set is crucial,I thought it was over when he was broken back twice.Rain is annoying but as long as he wins,it's alright.

I always prefer attacker to pusher, and brand new Andy! :rocker2:

Andy found a more effective balance between attack and defence this week, and it will be interesting to see if he maintains this through Cincy and the US Open.

JamieOwen3
08-15-2010, 11:51 PM
i always thaught he attacked when he played rafa after wimbledon 2008 in every match after that, and he did attack in AO 2007 but wasn't ready. i felt he needed to attack against roger more because he was saying in interviews he would retrieve and id be like no fuck that andy attack. im happy he did this week and title so deserved and went to the right player :yeah:

Congratulations Andy! What a superb week of tennis, great focus, impressive scalps - Nalbandian, Nadal and Federer. And thanks for giving me a beautiful birthday present in the final against Federer. I'm still grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Good luck in Cincinnati. Stay fit and motivated but don't take unecessary risks. Most important thing is to be primed for the big stage at US Open.

MsTree

Ugh, winning ugly personified. Step it up against Fish please.

Turquoise
08-20-2010, 04:20 AM
Never gave him a hope in hell of winning that tie-break but so happy he proved me wrong. He looks very jaded, irritable, but at least he hasn't lost his hate-to-lose attitude. Matches against aggressive-minded players like Chardy and Gulbis can only do him good especially on fast hard courts.

Although I hate, hate, hate the thought of him potentially losing 3 times in a row to Fish, I accept that he has to take care of himself and get his priorities right for the US Open. But you never know with Andy, now that he's match-hardened, he might surprise me. All the best, win or lose.

scoobs
08-20-2010, 07:41 AM
Fucks sake, the schedulers gave him first match again, at noon

Turquoise
08-20-2010, 09:07 AM
Fine way to treat a former champion. It defies logic that the organisers can't push his match later in the afternoon at least.

scoobs
08-20-2010, 09:19 AM
Well in some respects earlier is better than later because it will not be as warm at 12 as it will by 4 or 5.

But it's not ideal, and neither Toronto nor Cincy have exactly been fair on this - I don't understand why they're sticking a doubles match on every night in Cincy when they could play 2 singles.

Turquoise
08-20-2010, 09:34 AM
My bad. In my part of the world, the midday heat is the worst time of day, and 4-5pm ideal conditions – but then, everyday is summer for me. The doubles schedule is indeed perplexing.
