Any explanations regarding [ALT] Raven Klaasen (RSA) and [ALT] Sergei Bubka (UKR) ??
If we look through the alternates list (http://www.tennisteen.it/notizie/entry-list/9741-atp-entry-list-19-25-luglio-2010.html) we see the following (with three-weeks-ago ranking):
Alternates:
OUT 1. Im, Kyu Tae KOR 278
IN 2. Raonic, Milos CAN 295
IN 3. Sirianni, Joseph AUS 298
IN 4. Suzuki, Takao JPN 299
OUT 5. Lim, Yong-Kyu KOR 301

OUT 8. Yang, Tsung-Hua TPE 313
9. Zhang, Ze CHN 317

12. Klein, Brydan AUS 323
OUT 13. Viola, Matteo ITA 326
OUT 14. Ito, Yuichi JPN 330
15. Kelly, Dayne AUS 344
...
27. Klaasen, Raven RSA 436

However, Bubka and Klaasen have the best ranking for this week. Were they taken instead two positions SE? Have the organizers such right?

Really good draw for Carsten Ball to go far. He should at least make semifinals here but a finals appearance wouldn't be suprising at all given the field in the top half of the draw.

When the SE spots are not needed, the next two players on the alternate list are admitted to the main draw.

The fact is that they WERE NOT the next two players on the alternate list. Bubka was the 2nd, Klaasen was the 13th. They were the two with the best current ranking. That was a reason for my question

They were the two highest from the ALT list on site, I think

In other words. Should we use the original alternate list based on the 3-weeks-ago rankings or the new alternate list based on the most recent ATP rankings (nonpublished here and nowhere)?

The fact is that they WERE NOT the next two players on the alternate list. Bubka was the 2nd, Klaasen was the 13th.They were the top two still on the alternate list when the list closed.the new alternate list based on the most recent ATP rankings (nonpublished here and nowhere)? There is no such list. Withdrawals before the deadline are replaced by alternates (from the entry list); late withdrawals are replaced by lucky losers.

The only time there would be an on-site sign in for alternate spots is if the main draw alternate list was exhausted (due to withdrawals more main draw spots are available than alternates who want to play).

This happened this week in the Hamburg qualifying. Nine players withdrew & only six alternates wanted to play so the other three spots were filled from an on-site sign in:
http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=10106011&postcount=1

If so, why Bubka and Klaasen were moved to MD? We return to my first question :)Already answered:
http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=10160312&postcount=20

All of these types of questions (& answers) are covered in the ATP rulebook. There have been no substantial changes in these rules for many years.

Sorry, I may be extremely stupid :)
According to http://www.tennisteen.it/notizie/entry-list/9741-atp-entry-list-19-25-luglio-2010.html, the top two were Zhang and Bubka (wrong information?):

9. Zhang, Ze CHN 317
OUT 10. Evans, Brendan USA 318
11. Bubka, Sergei UKR 319
12. Klein, Brydan AUS 323
OUT 13. Viola, Matteo ITA 326
OUT 14. Ito, Yuichi JPN 330
15. Kelly, Dayne AUS 344

27. Klaasen, Raven RSA 436

However, Zhang, Klein and Kelly were put to the QD, Bubka and Klaasen were put to the MD :)

I think they use the current rankings for these late alternates in the draw. Bubka and especially Klaasen rose a lot of places after Newport.
