I'm very very happy for Pim Pim!!! He's been working so hard and it's finally paying off :)
I know this is gonna sound really selfish, but I'm kind of sad that he won't be our little hidden treasure anymore, from now on we're gonna have to share him with other fans. On the bright side, it'll be cool to meet new Pim Pim fans from all over the world :)

If Joachim plays more tournaments from now until the end of the year, he could really well end up in the top 10 or better. But he has to at least win some tournaments or make it to the semi. The reason is because the people in front of him doesn't have a great season at all and few of them are injured and most likely not going to be playing much until next season. This is a prefect time for him to move up his ranking. But ranking is just only the number, right? ;)

I know what you mean. I used to think that I was the only Pim Pim fan around. I started following him (I think 1999) when I saw his name in the juniors draw at RG. It was very difficult to find out information about him. I still remember when I found out his nickname a year or so later.

Since Memphis there's been a LOT more news about Pim. Now there will be even more.

KayTang999
09-14-2004, 12:26 AM
The race is for the Master Cup at the end of the year, in which only top 8 and/or grand slams winners who remain in top 20 can enter.

The entry is the world ranking.

Sharon

why do they have two? :( it just confuses people

at the end of the year, the two are the same i think, so is boils down to the final weeks with the masters race one :) i found that out last year when i got all confused :p

jmgsdoubsprtnr
09-14-2004, 01:43 AM
entry race is for seeding the players for tournaments, and to tell who to give a direct entry into the tournament. if they're not high enough, they have to qualify.

If he plays well these next two months, I think he has a chance to move into the top ten at least after RG and possibly before. My guess is that Gaudio will lose a lot of points at RG and if Pim Pim defends all his points Gaudio will tumble past him. Of course, if Pim Pim stays healthy, he can gain lots of points at IW and Miami.

I'm just worried he is playing TOO much now.

Johansson earns top 10 spot
From correspondents in Marseille
February 14, 2005

SWEDEN's Joachim Johansson, seeded three, won the ATP indoor event in Marseilles this morning (AEDT), beating Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 7-5 6-4.

It was the in-form Johansson's second title of the year – and his third overall – after his success in Adelaide last month and will push him into the top 10 for the first time.

The final represented a stand-off between two big hitters with Ljubicic – who was suffering from bronchitis – fancying his chances after seeing off the Swede on their two previous meetings.

It proved a balanced affair with the first 10 games going to serve before Johansson finally broke to go 6-5, then serving out for 7-5.

"Up to 5-5 it was like the last times we played, I was feeling comfortable," said Ljubicic.

"But after that he raised his game, with lots of shots in play. That's what made the difference."

The imposing Johansson, who measures 1.88m, broke to go 3-2 up in the second set, a game that proved decisive as he went on to wrap up his win and uphold his record of not dropping his serve here this week.

In all he fired down 19 aces in the final compared to 13 for Ljubicic.

"It's my first title in Europe," said Johansson who will be trying to build on this in Rotterdam this week.

"From 4-3 in the first set, I started to play better and to create more chances.

"At the start I had trouble reading his serve but then I started returning closer to the baseline. I got a lot more balls back in play and put more pressure on him."

I have a bicycle. I can dink him!?
Just in case 'dink' isn't a global word... its when someone sits on the handlebars of your bicycle ;)

And, in case Jaslyn comes along... we could go old-school and give her some rollerblades and a rope to hang onto the back of the bike. God I'm making it hard on myself... pimpim can dink me instead  (How would anyone see past him to watch where they're going!? *I hope I provided everyone with a very strange, funny visual!*

Can we have a costume party next time when he reaches #8?

jmgsdoubsprtnr
02-22-2005, 03:40 AM
YES!! visuals are the best!! and if that's too hard on you, maybe you can get a bicycle with the 2 baskets on the back, and pim pim can sit in one, and jas in the other (or maybe söds). OR!!! do you have a basket on the front? then you could "chauffeur" all 3 of them!!! :haha:

Kristen

Hmm  I have no baskets... BUT my dad is an engineer... so maybe he could fix up some sort of wagn-attachment to the bike? You know, like the little ones they use in some asian countries!? That would be classy ;) I could stick my little swedish flag at the front of my bike, to show that it's someone important in the back :p

Examples (of course, mine would have to be in the national colours! and it would have a roof):

this way they can have a workout and arrive at the party on time and they can skip the gym that day. lol, we could have a bike like that for each player so it looks like its a parade or something. we can steal some of the city's thunder that way ;) :p
