Despite that nasty hip injury biznatch, you've worked your way up to #8 in the Race w/ your USO result! Now, Safin's #9, and we all know he doesn't want to go to the Masters in Houston, BUT YOU DO! So go to Europe, play Madrid and Paris, and satisfy me by qualifying again for the Masters and haing a top ten year. Boo ya.

Nice post! :) Yes, for Andre to be in contention for the Masters Cup after such a disastrous spring/early summer is remarkable. I hope he will play some more and solidify his position.

Hope you make it to Houston, Andre. I also hope you'll make it to Shanghai next year and I'll spend all my savings so my wife and I can watch you play (live).

Andre, squeese Gaudio out of the top-8, because Safin wants to go to Houston too.

As a Grand Slam Champion, Gaudio will do to Houston whatever, whether he is in the Top 8 or not.

I also hope Andre makes the Masters Cup. It would be great for him to qualify for possibly the last time! Come on Hrbaty too! Grab those last two places!

Doesn't matter. Gaudio's officially qualified b/c he won a slam and can't finish outside the top 20 mathematically, so if Gaudio is outside the top 8, then he and the top 7 will go.

GO ANDRE! :rocker2:

Wrong. Winning a GS does not automatically qualify the player for the Masters Cup. Here's the rule:

Qualification: The top seven finishers in the ATP Champions Race 2004 will qualify. The eighth place will go to the highest-placed Grand Slam winner who finishes outside the top seven but within the top 20. If no player fits this classification, the eighth place will go to the player finishing eighth in the ATP Champions Race 2004.

So, it was possible (but not likely) that Gaudio would NOT go to Houston. That's why the ATP only announced that his qualification a couple of weeks ago.

Yes I do know my tennis rules Socket, and as a Gaudio fan I have been working out the mathematical possibilities of him staying in the Top 20 (or not) ever since Roland Garros. But when I posted my message about him going I was not wrong because it had definately been announced :)

You said he was going to Houston "as Grand Slam champion . . . whether he's in the Top 8 or not". You misstated the rule, because the determining factor is NOT whether he's in the Top 8, but whether he's in the top 20 (which applies only to GS winners). You are correct that he is in the Top 20 and *is* going to Houston, but you were wrong about the qualification rule.
