No he wasn't. I saw it too - Almagro kept protesting linecalls, arguing with the umpire even after the the mark was inspected, loudly Vamosing Safin's UEs and showed absolutely no concern when Safin fell and turned and ankle and had to have a medical timeout for it. Safin was being his usual charming self on court, bear with a sore head, but he certainly wasn't the villain of the piece.

Yes, he was, Scoobs.

Safin was on edge during the entire match and Almagro defied him.

There was this one point, near the end of the match, very crucial point. Safin felt that the ball was in (which would have won him the crucual point) and when the umpire wouldn't budge, he let it rip against Almagro. The video afterwards showed that Safin was wrong. That was jerk behaviour from Safin, right there.

Safin could lose it now and again in matches and it's not because he's cute and Almagro isn't that Almagro has to carry the "jerk" tag.

Tripe

At worst, Safin was as bad as Almagro and I happen to think he wasn't as bad as Almagro, and apart from all the other antics, Almagro's complete disinterest in Safin's injury was worthy of the lack of handshake I thought.

It's not tripe.

First, after that crucial point, Almagro got shouted at and was at the other end of Safin's anger which was ugly so yes, he wasn't going to go all sympathetic and gooey when Safin was on the ground. It's not as if he was applauding Safin for being injured either.
If Safin was robbed from a point, I could understand his anger but Almagro wasn't to blame for this either.

And then, Safin refused to shake his hand which earned Safin a booing session from the crowd as well.

There was a lot of niggle in the air that day as to who was worse, that is just subjective.

Remember Safin refusing to shake Berdych's hand, though Berdych and Santoro at Wimbledon was classic. Berdych was being a wind up merchant and actually admitted it after the match and it was understandable Santoro did a refusal.

So a bit of anger from Safin over a linecall towards Almagro, even though Almagro had been question calls and arguing with the umpire all match, justifies not even a cursory amount of interest in your opponent on the ground injured. Classy. Fair enough. I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

It is very difficult to create a historical TV series without running on sterotypes. It takes a lot of hard work and research, for example the old "I, Claudius" series was excellent.

Well, they didn't put that work into Spartacus. It's dreary, not historically accurate, and just a lot of gore and sex. I think it was trading on that Rome series -- which wasn't so bad if only Julius Ceasar and Cleopatra hadn't been so totally off.
