Which team should I root for? They both have languages I can't stand.. The two worst languages in the world are Dutch and Danish. They mumble too much. I don't even understand Danish. I should, cuz it is kinda similar to Norwegian, yet it is VERY different. Most Norwegians do not understand Danish at all.

Kjr got a ridiculous yellow card, it wasn't even a foul. At the same time no need to peak in the 1st round.
The explanation here is that the umpire was signalling to Kjr that it's a culmination of many committed small fouls rolled into one yellow card.

---> The Netherlands may have a whole bunch of attackers to be jealous of but the team does have a scoring problem in the World Cup. It's been more than 5 hours ago that a Dutch player could score in the WC, namely Van Nistelrooy in 2006

The German team is such an interesting contrast to the English side. Germany have players who can suck royally for their club sides, but they deliver as soon as they put on the national jersey. With England it's pretty much the opposite.

Tonsils and that stuff that blocks the nose: polipes?

 I am sure Petru will be fine, I had the same surgery when I was eight.

Yes, he can't breathe and gets the flu very often but not an ordinary flu, with the nose blocked with puss and affecting his ears. It's already a year and 1/2 and I can't take it anymore. They said that he needed surgery last year but I kept postpon it with the hope that he'll get better but not :tears:

Same thing for me, I remember trying to tear the sheets at bed with my teeth from the ear pain :awww:

Still can't believe Fed lost to Hewitt

What's the best website to follow the WC action in some text format?

I think the guardian had good coverage, typically it is a good paper.

Pfffft....well, we're not out of the problems yet, that's sure.

On the Walloon side, the PS (socialist party) with Elio Di Rupo won the elections with a comfortable margin.
On the Flemish side, the N-VA (New Flemish Alliance) with Bart De Wever had a monster score (even bigger than expected). This monster score indicates that the Flemish side gave a loud and clear message to the Walloon side.

The prime minister will probably be Elio Di Rupo which will be a first in a couple of ways.
He's the son of Italian immigrants (so 2nd generation Belgian) and he's openly gay (or rather, he doesn't really talk about it and it's obviously his business but he was outed by people who tried to blackmail him in the 90s but luckily, they failed).
Until a few years ago, he used to be quite anti-Flemish but he's toned that down. The clash with De Wever could be interesting.

It will be interesting to see how De Wever handles his share of power now. It was easy to raise expectations as an outsider, now he needs to credibly blame "the others" for failures.

My godchild, Anna, had horrible ear infections and didn't cry. One night she came to her mother and said in her light, carefree, little voice, "Mommy my ears hurt." Her mother thought she just wanted cuddle time in her parents' bed because she didn't seem to be in pain, but just so she wouldn't feel guilty, she took Anna to the doctor. BOTH ear drums were ruptured! She was around 3 then. I've had ONE ear ache my entire life, and I thought I would go crazy from the pain. We are the same. Usually we don't hit 38 until late in June. Then it gets really hot in July and August. Normally, it gets up to 110 every year, but some years it will be brutally hot.

We are dry all year long -- On the average 8 or 9 inches (20 to 23 cm) a year. But of course some years are wetter and some drier. October is the wettest month historically. 1.1 inch on the average. or 2.8 centimeters. June and February are the driest. 1.3 cm and 1 cm.

 It sounds like so much when I put in centimeters.

Something like that. She's just out to score no matter how aggressive it sounds in Flanders.

She's very aggressive and provocative towards Flanders and not thinking straight. Some of the things she has said just make your jaw drop to the floor. And they (she and some others) are in part responsible for De Wever's success. Every time they pointed their finger to Flanders in an aggressive way, De Wever added more votes without having to do anything for it other than saying the right thing in return and De Wever is a very smart man and good with words so he could easily turn things into his favour.

Man, we're in trouble.

One of the main problems I see is that only Walloon people can vote for Walloon politicians and only Flemish people can vote for Flemish politicians. Only in Brussels can people vote for both.
The problem is that politicians only make demands and speeches regarding their territory, their region: things their people want to hear and they don't give a shit what people on the other side think and whether it's provocative or aggressive to the other side or not. I think that we need to go back to federal election lists so that we should be able to vote for politicians throughout the country. That way, policitians will be forced to think further than their own backyard and they will have to think "Belgian".
If I want to vote for a Walloon politician now, I can't do it. How are they going to make people think "Belgian" this way?

Merton

Something like that. She's just out to score no matter how aggressive it sounds in Flanders.

She's very aggressive and provocative towards Flanders and not thinking straight. Some of the things she has said just make your jaw drop to the floor. And they (she and some others) are in part responsible for De Wever's success. Every time they pointed their finger to Flanders in an aggressive way, De Wever added more votes without having to do anything for it other than saying the right thing in return and De Wever is a very smart man and good with words so he could easily turn things into his favour.

The incentives are all wrong there. :o The politicians have every incentive to get into polarization (Flemish vs. Waloons and vice versa) since the voters of "the other side" can never punish them. There should be some type of federal voting.

It is hard to come with a good suggestion though.

I had a bizarre dream as I fell asleep on the couch during the afternoon today.

I was racing in a car with James Dean, and then I was sitting in a hallway on Titanic eating cinnamon buns. While I was eating the cinnamon buns I was looking at an ant nest on a table nearby. A couple of employees was standing by the table talking about what to do with the ants. I can't recall if they ever came up with a solution.

Really? I didn't even notice a lack of blondes while there, are you that rare? There's no lack of blondes in Canada, just in Jess's and Snoo's experiences. The room I'm sitting in is 50% blonde, me and a male coworker. The other two (male coworkers) both have brown hair.

dude, in my entire life i've never met a canadian. even the one time i went to canada, the only people i met were africans (i mean like, africans-from-africa). i kinda knew a dude who was like, born somewhere in the middle east and moved to canada when he was 1 year old but possibly it was his parents that were born in the middle east and he was born in canada and moved to the US when he was 1 year old. So i don't think he counts. bhutaneses, sinhaleses, malteses, mais oui, but no fuckin canadians. most peculiar. You'll have to come visit again. You were in Montreal, right? Sometimes African immigrants end up in Montreal if their first country had French as one of its languages.

Bah here you go. Snoo, I'm not that tall. 5"11 5'11" is a good height.

by the way, earlier posting of blonde canadians..

how did everyone forget about this 'blonde'

http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/strollerderby/pamela-anderson.jpg

Why doesn't anyone give their height in the International System of Units? I started it, I guess. I was talking to Jess, who I figured wouldn't really understand if I said I was 178cm. And really, even though officially my country uses metric, we still hear imperial quite a bit.

I'm 5' 7" But I wouldn't mind being 5'10. :) I like being tall and wouldn't want to be shorter.

WTF?!?! 1.68 isn't tall! I'm 1.76, and yes, I am a female. Another female almost as tall as I am. :D

5'9 is a nice height. I wouldn't mind that at all. Still Minn is the tallest one. :)

p.s. but I would put BD shorter -- he's a lawyer. :p  Do you think they (male lawyers) have a short man syndrome thing?

You are all shorter than Eva :p well, not Melanie I think :) I'm the tallest female here although I've heard Carlita is quite tall, right? I'm shorter than you though, right, JM?

I know Melanie is blonde and I am blonde, oh and Betty is blonde too. The three blonde chicks of Rafachat. :rocker2:

I had this university colleague that was smart, funny and full of energy. She was also not tall, about 1.62, blonde and a little plump. I always imagined Linda looking like her Linda reminds me of two of my favourite former coworkers.

That would be me-1.58 m That's about how tall one of my grandmothers was (I think she was actually 159cm). I had to lean down so far to hug her. :o

no guess about me ? My guess - 181cm.

Is anyone taller than me then? I'm 1.93m.

I don't normally cry from physical pain. I did scream and cry when my brother hit me as a child. Really LOUD too.  But you had an ulterior motive for that crying and screaming.

Something like that. She's just out to score no matter how aggressive it sounds in Flanders.

She's very aggressive and provocative towards Flanders and not thinking straight. Some of the things she has said just make your jaw drop to the floor. If I want to vote for a Walloon politician now, I can't do it. How are they going to make people think "Belgian" this way? Strange. I think your country needs some major reform. It certainly won't be easy and it'll take a different sort of politician to push for it.
