That said I agree that the umpires should also take their responsabilities and not just warn the guys once in a while but every single time they waste time, after losing some games because of that they'd surely speed up their pace :angel: :o

charisma is a subjective thing though. how can you know how many people they turned off from the sport as opposed to those they attracted? you can guess based on how many people bought tickets to watch their matches, how many companies took them on as sponsors and what tv ratings were during their matches. they're incomplete but the best yardsticks you can have about the impact of a player on the sport.

i agree, the rules are there and the umpires are there to enforce it. maybe they need to be empowered more :shrug: or maybe the sport is OK with it :shrug:

edit: i should say that i think it's a valid point that they are going to turn some fans off from their games and maybe the sport as a whole (though i think that's a stretch). but whether that'll have any measurable impact on the sport as a whole is a hyperbolic argument, i think.
