Soderling could do some major damage on grass this year I think. He's skipping the Wimby warm up events, so will on play Wimby. Should be rested enough and go deep.

Soderling could do some major damage on grass this year, especially Wimby.

It looks like Soda is skipping any warm-ups for Wimby this year, Glory. As of today, his name has been removed from the Halle Grass ATP250 event that features Fed every year. He and Berdych were listed as participants yesterday, but they aren't in the draw. I'm guessing he pulled out due to "exhaustion"? A confirmation on this would be good.

He isn't due to play Eastbourne the week afterwards either. It looks like he is going to take 2 weeks off and go straight into SW19 without match practice. Last year, he was supposed to play at the Liverpool Exhibition tourney before Wimby, but he caught the flu, and although he showed up there and did promos, he didn't play. So he didn't do any match preparation last year either. He did pretty well at Wimby though, making it to the 4th round before losing to Fed 6-4, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5). I think "rest" is more important to Robin and he can get a feel for the grass in the early rounds.

Oh well, this can be a Wimby thread then.

Yea, definitely!

I think we're all a little confused right now as I couldn't find a news story yet on why he has withdrawn. Maybe he will do some exhibition at the last minute, because it would be better if he had at least some preparation. But I've tended to notice that unlike Kolya, who does really well playing constantly, Robin tends to do better when he gets time to recuperate even if he goes in cold. I think it is due to the kind of game he plays and the fact he needs his "down" time.

His over-stacked schedule before the Australian Open (Abu Dhabi exho, then Chennai and then the Kooyong exho with no rest) proved to be disastrous. Then he rested for about a month and entered Rotterdam as a Wild Card and won that event. It's a smart move on his part to put "rest" as a priority over the possibility of wearing himself out.

Good decision by Robin, nevermind the small tourneys. I expect him to do well at Wimbledon, he can pluck some points there.

I'm not too concerned - I'm sure its just a rest thing now that he's into the final in RG :) I'm sure he'll update his twitter or website or something after the final. At least I hope so

How often do you see one of those players win or make the finals of an ATP250 the week before a Grand Slam and then lose in the First Round or have nothing left by Round 2 or 3? Gasquet comes immediately to mind at Nice, but I also thought Baggy had nothing left in the tank when he played Hewitt at the AO recently because he was busy winning Sydney on the Sunday that the AO Qualifications were being completed.

Kolya is a machine sometimes and the WTFs format of having him have to win the Semi and the Final with about 12 hours rest between them is the only exception that immediately comes to mind to that general rule. If every tourney was like the WTFs, Kolya would be #1.

How often do you see someone take a break (Del Pony, US Open 2009, skipping the Cincy Masters due to "exhaustion"; Fed playing nothing before AO 2010 come immediately to mind) before the Grand Slam, go into it cold and win the whole thing or at least go very deep with plenty of energy? Great move on Robin's part, even if he just practices on Grass with no official match play.

I hope Robin gets a good draw and can play himself into form up untill the 4th round. And lets pray he doesn't get Rafa or Fed in the 1/4.

granollers 2nd round.. are you SERIOUS???? *flashes back to AO*

minh

Granoller is no problem, in AO, he was so subjective when leading 2-0 after 2 sets, this make him lose this match. but this time, it won't able to repeat methinks, Robin now became a player who is not easy to beat :)

Robin's got a tough draw there, but he should be fine for the first few rounds.

Alot of the seeds struggled today and had to fight tooth and nail for a win ex: davydenko, federer and djokovic

and then seeds like wawrinka, cilic and ljubicic couldnt pull through

If this trend continues tommorrow i hope robin will be one of the seeds to pull through

There does already exist a live scoring thread in this forum, let us use only that instead.
