Welcome to the Queen's Club.

Enjoy its grass. Its cows. Experience some fabulous tea.
You might not see the Queen (unless Scooby shows up ^^ ) but you can spend a wonderful time there.

...Oh, they also have some tennis going on.

Allez Andy :yeah:

I can bet just how much respect you would like from him. ;)

On his Twitter he said he's already had some practice on the grass courts.

Draw is out. Andy's got Cilic in his quarter, first match against Koellerer or Navarro.

Good Luck Andy!!!

Its just about getting a few matches under his belt for me. Its Wimbledon that should be the main focus.

Well it's not the easiest draw, Cilic QF, Rafa SF, but we'll see what happens.

I just hope he's not falling all over the place on the grass for once.

Not the hardest draw but not the easiest either. Of course there's really no such thing as an easy draw anyways.

My thoughts by the end of the first set : I mean, seriously? Murray pushed to 4-4, then 5-5, then 6-6, then 5-5 in the tie break... against Navarro?? He's not winning Queen's !!

Seems to go a little bit better in the second, but it's not like I'm reassured.

Yeah that tape concerns me as well. I'm just hoping he's just being his usual Drama Queen self and it's a preventative thing.

No. Navarro didn't play well. He would have neutralized by many other players. Today's the first time I've been really concerned with Andy's game, which is so far from what it was 12 months ago.
Andy didn't play well.

MsTree
06-08-2010, 10:41 PM
Jeez then you weren't watching his matches a couple of months ago

Navarro did play well, he serve volleyed every serve but one according to the commentators. Good that Andy had some target practice on grass and by the end of the match it looked like he was firing on all cylinders.
Scoobs is right, it wasn't bad at all ;)

Navarro was serving exceptionally well, both on first and second serves, particularly in the first set. The pattern became predictable: wide to the deuce court and down the tee on the ad court, and for a returner of Andy's calibre, it was perplexing that he couldn't have a good read on those serves. Good thing was that Andy was relatively comfortable on serve but then again, Navarro is a poor returner. (Nowadays, I've lowered my expectations: 50% first serve percentage for Andy is good, and anything above that is brilliant).

Navarro had a couple of set points in the tie-break, which got me in a bad mood, but Andy redeemed himself by winning the set with that beautiful passing shot. All in all, I think it was an average performance for Andy. He had a rude awakening when Navarro held his own on his service games, and it took him longer than it should to make the necessary adjustments and take control of the match. That last game of the match when he produced four outstanding returns of serves was more representative of what Andy is capable of against such an opponent.

I hope the knee tape was precautionary - I found it distracting when he struggled with his movement at times or maybe Navarro was volleying too well?

Well, I remember seeing a scene in a movie.

The guy picks up his glass and drinks half the contents, puts it down, and says... "okay...is the glass half full or half empty?"

The girl sorta sighs at the question but before she can open her mouth to answer, he picks up the glass and finishes the drink, and says:

"It's gone, so it doesn't really matter anymore..."

In other words, today is a new match, and if he loses to Fish today I will kill him :wavey:

First set Fish 64

Well start Andy

Sleepy service game at the start of the match, lost serve, and Fish has served really well all set, Murray hasn't landed a punch on the return games and that was that, 23 minutes.

MsTree
06-10-2010, 07:52 PM
OK he's woken up now. Good point to get the breakpoints :)

scoobs

Yeah that was a really good point, crosscourt forehand, down the line backhand, and two good volleys.

scoobs
06-10-2010, 08:00 PM
Bit better intensity from Andy, good to see, but Fish has lost rhythm on the first serve and that's definitely helping Andy to get the returning going.

So this exhibition of mental defectiveness that we call a tennis match will resume tomorrow.

Lucky for Fish -had they played on he probably would have lost this set 64.

As it is, if he catches Murray cold tomorrow like he did today, he could just snatch this one.

scoobs
06-10-2010, 08:52 PM
Well whatever happens tomorrow, win or lose, he's going to have to get more consistent. His level just seems to go up and down like a whore's knickers, and with far less warning.

Murray, well...one minute he's on fire, next he's hitting sliced backhands as well as I can.

Andy, please get into the right gear and finish the match today. Two defeats in a row to Mardy Fish is unpalatable.

Interesting that Andy's opponents are all classic serve and volleyers - Navarro, Fish and potentially Llodra. All great target practice.

By the way, I was commenting on Andy's overall level of play, I soooo did not care about Navarro, all I was watching was Andy's movement and strokes, and my point was that he would not defend his title was was playing pretty badly (for the Andy we know that is / it was still better than a lot of players).
