He didn't quite reach SF this year but 24 straight QF or better is still totally incredible so the QF streak is still alive! :worship:

Good, lets count to R4 after he loses there?

Maybe we should celebrate his 44 straight 1st rounds?

He's still behind Connors in this statistic if only the slams participated in are taken into account.

Yes, he lost inthe first round of the French Open in 1999, 2002 and 2003 and also lost at the first round at Wimbledon in 1999, 2000 and 2002.

Interesting to see that he lost in the first round at FO 2003 just before his extraordinary period of dominance started.

I'm sure Federer will still continue to do very well at majors. It's just the SF streak that has been broken, in much the same way that his finals streak was broken after the loss to Djokovic at AO 2008.

When you want to avoid negative comments you shouldn't post on MTF ;)

Every winning streak is coming to an end one day. Roger once said if he would be afraid of losing winning streaks he would have to quit playing tennis.
He had a little luck in a few matches to keep his winning streak in the GS tournaments alive, but it was about to happen one day that a player in an earlier round would be the better player over 3 sets - and not just over 2 or 2 1/2 ;)

Untouchable streak at 23. As these start to fall, he'll have even less and less pressure.

That also is an incredible streak, probably the longest in history as well. In fact, I do not know if anyone has ever had 24 straight 4th round appearances, in which case the semifinals is ridiculous.

None of you in this thread will live to see the semi final streak broken. Not until cyborgs are playing tennis.

Lendl still holds the record with 28 consecutive 4th rounds.:D And 14 QF's, the previous record. Sampras had 10.

This record of 23 consecutive SF´s and QF´s will not probably be broken in decades. Thanks Roger for all these records. Forever the best!!

23 straight semis is just uncomprehendable. He could have been sick(actually he played through mono during part of this streak), hurt, bad draw but Roger still was in the top 4 in every major over the past 5 years:eek:

If he gets to 40 (very possible) it'll be just as impressive as the SF streak.

Can't express how glad I am the SF streak is finally over. A relief for tennis.

But gotta respect the achievement.

Yeah its a great achievement. Too bad for the French....I actually think Federer losing is a bigger disaster than the French losing all their matches at the world cup.

Great achievement~

But no one was even counting that when he had his SF streak still intact. It's kind of sad to bring it up now after his defeat.

Let's hope that when he does lose a QF (he eventually will), we will no longer have a count of his 4th rounds. Just keep it semis and QFs please...

To me QF is sort of the benchmark for greatness in Grand Slams, if you make QF in a GS it is very big. That is why I brought this up. If he had lost 4th Round I would not have made a thread about consecutive 4th Round appearances. :p

What he really needs is a good 1st round exit at Wimbledon. Then he'll feel absolutely no pressure and win the US Open.

Too bad for the French....I actually think Federer losing is a bigger disaster than the French losing all their matches at the world cup.why would the French care anyway? they are still mostly enjoying 2009... Nadal smashed out (and did they enjoy it) and Fed with the title he's always deserves and they wanted to see him win

anything else is gravy

He's still behind Connors in this statistic if only the slams participated in are taken into account.

From Wimbledon 1973 to Roland Garros 1983, Connors had 27 straight QF's.

He was banned from RG at least once, in 1974, and also didn't play 75, 76, 77, or 78.

He also didn't play the 75-76 AO, either of the 1977 AO's, the 78-79 AO, the 79-80 AO, the 80-81 AO, the 81-82 AO, or the 82 AO.

8 times he missed the AO, 5 times he missed RG, though

He always played Wimbledon and USO.

Federer still has a record to break :yeah:
