Nadal in straights. btw, RG08 QF Nadal vs Almagro : 6-1 6-1 6-1.

6-0 h2h for Nadal. 14-2 in sets.

6-1, 6-1, 6-1 in the only time they have played in RG two years ago. Curiously enough, it was also in the QF.

btw admins, I made this thread right after Almagro won. Why was it deleted? It had a poll and all the formalities.

Almagro won't bend over as badly he did in 2008.

He'll win some games, maybe a tiebreak or a 7-5 set. Best case, Almagro gets a set.

Depends on who shows up. If its all Almugro from the start, it will be straight sets like 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, but if the Almagro of past weeks can hold his nerve, I think maybe he can take a set.

We can joke but I don't think Almagro will bend over this time, despite the hero-worship of Nadal. Given their respective forms this should be a Nadal win in either three reasonably tight sets or four sets.

Almugro can make it competitive in the form he is in but Rafa will win in 4 sets. Nando would have been sad to see against Rafa at this point hence what i meant in the aftermatch thread.

These two should have been banned for life after their QF in 2008. It is astonishing that they are going to be allowed to repeat that performance this year.

Almagro is a very good server and if he keeps his consistency he can put a challenge.Obviously no one believes he can win the match but at least he can win a set.

Was he wrong?
Everybody lost badly against Nadal that year.

In contrary to most over here, I don't believe Almagro will 'bend over' this time. He's been improving fast the past couple of months, whereas Rafa is still not playing at his best level, B- at best. Bellucci displayed the tactics on how to take on Nadal version 2010, but failed because of lack of experience in execution. Almagro must have noticed this as well and he may well give it a better shot.

Wouldn't surprise me if Almagro managed to snatch a set at least.

Better Almagro than Verdasco. Verdasco would be completely blown off the court. Nadal in 3 with one close set or in 4.

Almagro will totally bend over, Rafa could play at 10% and still win in straights :o

I think Almugro will keep it competitive for the first set. He might even win that first set. From then on it'll be all Nadal, regardless of which of them wins the first set.

between 7 and 10 games, first set won easily 6-2, second set a little bit more fought 6-4, third set ridiculously lost 6-2 or 6-3. thats all for almugro

In 2008, everyone talked up Almagro as he had the best winning record on clay that season, going into the QF. While no one thought he had a chance to win, everyone thought it would be competitive. So Al-MUG-ro showed up and won a grand total of 3 games!

This year, everyone is talking up Almagro again. He's won a set off Nadal this year, and Nadal is nowhere near as focused as he was in 2008 and the conditions are not so good for him this year. He's also not 100% back physically whatever he says. Mentally he is almost there, but you can tell he has more lapses now...losing serve to Bellucci in the second set serving for it, what was that?

I think Almagro will take a set, maybe two. But he won't last for best of five. Even the gassed, limping, ailing, played-too-much Verdasco managed to win a set off him today. So he has to win it in 3 if he wants to win.

Almagro is a nice claycourter to watch. If he had a bit of defense to him he would be scary, but he's pretty much smoked once he has fallen behind in a rally.

Nadal in straights. btw, RG08 QF Nadal vs Almagro : 6-1 6-1 6-1.

The result of the match between Nadal and Almagro is a done deal - Almagro will find a way to lose. A sacrificial lamb? From the looks of it, he will be. Too bad.

I would be utterly shocked if Almagro took more than one set, but this won't be a repeat of RG '08. For those who haven't noticed, Nadal's form is far from where it was during that tournament (probably the most dominant of his career). Rafa's form has slowly and gradually dropped since Monte Carlo last month and Almagro is playing well. Still... Probably straights for Nadal with one or two close sets.

I find it hillarious that anyone is giving Mugro a chance. He will lose 6-1 6-2 6-1.
Nadal's easiest match of the tournament. He beat a crippled, overplayed Verdasco in four fugly sets.
This will be a massacre.

So in the same vein, Federer should be banned for what transpired in the 2008 final?

Almagro showed in his last match against Nadal that he can be competitive. He has the weapons to irritate Nadal, but not the consistency to do so over best of five sets.

Nadal will win it (obviously). But Almagro is a really good clay courter. I see him challange Nadal, perhaps even taking a set. Still, no doubt Nadal will win. I go for Nadal in 4.

Nadal isn´t playing nearly as well as in RG08, while Almagro seems to be in good form.
With that in mind Almagro will do twice as well as in RG08 and lose only 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

VAMOOOOS Mugro! :)

With that big serve alone he could make it a match, not to mention his beautiful ground game to back it up as well.

However, similar was said two years ago and he got banged 3x 6-1.
Let's hope he wins 10 games for a start.

Almugro will get about 5 games max and hit over 100+ UEs a la 2008.
