Pathetic performance and pathetic attitude from Andy. He has dealt with the rain delays like a child. No matter how badly organised this tournament has been, there's no excuse for reacting in that manner.

Just very sluggish from Murray right from the off, setting Berdy up to hit freely pretty much all match (and striking it very cleanly he was too). No energy or accuracy on his own game to at least make Berdy hit on the run a bit.

Key aspect was Murray couldn't return to save himself - I think this might be the worst return stats he's posted in 3 or 4 years, and on a clay in heavy conditions too. Won just 3 of 38 first serve points.

Too good from Birdick. More than solid, that was an outstanding display of power, consistency and accuracy. Murray didn't do a lot wrong but failed to raise his game and made errors when he tried to be more aggressive.

It seems like the damp cold conditions have actually favoured the flatter heavier more powerful hitters. Maybe it gives them more margin for error when playing at full power.

Correction: possibly the worst of his entire pro career - anyone else think of when somebody got 92% points on on first serve against Murray? After a quick check I can only find one over 80% (83% for Karlovic at Cincinatti, when Murray was 19).

Thick legs will only do so much. He got outplayed and Berdych quite a smart match by his standards. I forgot Berdych didn't keep good length on his shots for the most part and was able to impose his game on Murray, but not a vintage showing at all from Murray.

Actually in the UK Sky Sports, who provide most of the tennis coverage, were surveying their viewers and found Nadal was by a large margin the most popular player with regular viewers in the UK. So in the UK a non-British player is far more popular than Murray.

Looked fine to me. It's the nature of Roland Garros that you often get the full range of clay speeds and bounces within one tournament: hot and high on 2, to mudpit slow rainy days on Lenglen.

Corretja hasn't looked pleased since the day someone here said Boredo had a better single hander than him.

Berdych said: "My coach told me when the match was suspended that Andy looked like he didn't want to play.

"Maybe that's his style, you know, that he wants to like make the opponent sleep or whatever.

"Whatever it is it didn't work today for him, and I'm happy for it. I deserved to win."

Did he really said that?

I thought he was banned permanetly? Well, I always felt that Murray needs more supporters here anyway.

Will Murray ever win a slam?

Not on clay. But that doesn't make him less likely to win others. He's still #2 threat at USO this year.

Did not expect Murray to go that far here on clay so whatever congrats to Thomas

Murray needs to sort out his head though - Thomas's coach was right, he didn't look up for it at all

If he loses giving it his all that is one thing but the moping is starting to grate now

Quite surprising what Tomas said after the match actually, I can't actually remember hearing/reading Tomas say something similar for maybe a few years. I get the impression that the 2 aren't the best of friends?

Murray will be back on the grass. This tournament has now dropped in level quite a bit now, a great player gone.

Un-important tournament anyway, Roland Crapos.

:rolls: what a transparently bitter post.

From the bits I seen in the bar, Murray was hacking and junking the ball in the middle of the court. Glad he lost if that was his way of winning.

murray has turned from a tactical player to a pathetic mug with overly defensive mind.......he cannot strike a solid forehand ffs and that's a sin.......his best days are behind him now.......2008 will go down as the best season of his career.......end of story.......

AJ called it a while back when he described Murray's clay game- good fight, some good matches and Hewitt-like results but against a top quality player on the surface playing well, he will fall short.

Vida
05-31-2010, 10:18 PM
its got a lot to do with serve and forehand. murray has a good mind but is fundamentally lacking, especially on this surface.

he wont be disappointed after this as much as it seems cause he has more time to prepare for wimbledon, where if he plays as good as last year he can be in the finals.

so how good his mind is on the longer track will really be seen how well he does there.

Obviously he has, he used about 30 in the post you quoted.
