solid stuff from the Feds. Wawrinka should have snatched the 2nd set though, played some awesome stuff himself.

A formality after Federer won the second set tiebreaker, but exciting match up until then. Federer plays winner of the Soderling-Cilic match.

Wawrinka still yet to reach the quarters of a Slam (0-5 in 4th round matches).

Not a good match, Fed will have to play alot better to take a set from Nadal in the final, he might even lose tomorrow if Söderling is on.

Roger needs to improve that drop shot if he wants to beat Nadal.

He missed far too often with it today.

Typical ownership and similarity to Nadal-Spaniards relation.

Quartefinal against Soderling will be the first and last test before final.

Solid from Fed, im glad he fought back in the 2nd well. 3rd set was dominating.

Stan had his 25 mins of glory but was the second best player on the court today. Federer will be hoping that his drop shot will be 'on' in the QF matchup against Soderling or Cilic, because he will need it to work there even though he didn't really need it today.

To be fair he shouldn`t have gone for those dropshots with the high wind. It`s always a risky choice

Mediocre match at best. A very bad start from Wawrinka sealed the deal in the first set. Second set, Wawrinka applied the correct tactics - relentless backhand-to-backhand pounding - but at the moments suprèmes he failed to capitalize on this advantage, got broken back and eventually lost the TB, which apparently upset him so much that it ended in a 8/10 racket smash. :worship:
After that TB, Wawa's tank ran empty whereas Feds stepped it up, hence the easy victory.

Fed will have to raise his level though. Quite a few shanks, and his dropshots were very mediocre today. The difficult conditions - wind - might have well played a big part in that. On to the next one, Feds. :yeah:

Wind affected them both a bit today. First set was good, Stan maybe a bit slow to get out of the starting blocks. Second set Wawa probably deserved to win - despite the fact they traded breaks largely because they themselves were rubbish on serve, not because of anything the other did. Anyway Fed survived a tight situation in the 2nd, like he did against Falla, biggest plus from this match for me. Third was one way traffic, Stan didn't have much fight left. Hasn't dropped a set yet.

7th quaterfinal in RG, prediction: Federer is going to end with more RG quaterfinals than Nadal at the end of his career and therefor Nadal can never be called the greatest of his era on clay using my criteria, which is inspired by froglogic.

Typical ownership and similarity to Nadal-Spaniards relation.

Why are you always harping on that? Do you think Verdasco bowed to Nadal in SF of AO-2009 or that Almagro did so on SF Madrid this year -not to speak of Ferrero kicking Nadal out of Rome 2008 on 1st round-?

Why is it so difficult for you to accept Fed is years above Wawrinka and Nadal is the best Spaniard by a mile? Just how many players do you think would have given Rafa more trouble in MC or Rome this year than Verdasco and Ferrer? And then, why didn´t they show up in the finals to give it a try?

And there is a huge difference: Fed and Wawrinka can´t stand each other, while most Spanish players get along quite well. No problems in the Spanish team for Davis Cup. Which is at it should be.

A good side of Warinka: he's able to play competitive tennis against the best players (at least 1.5 sets)
A bad side of Wawrinka: he always loses tight sets against them

Where'd you get that inside info from. As far as the rest of the world knows, they are extremely good friends off court. Even if you only looked at their celebration on winning the Olympic Gold Doubles, you'd have to be a bit thick to believe they can't stand each other.. :haha:

I have heard people say they don´t get along several times, in different media. If I had that wrong, better for them. My mistake, seems one shouldn´t believe everything one is told. Thank you for pointing it out.

But the bending over shit really gets on my nerves.

I'm glad Rogie's in his 24th straight GS QF, 6 straight years of making at least the QF of every GS he's in and in fact he's 23-0 in the QF of the last 23 GS QFs he's played in.

Stan and Roger aren't BFF the way Roger and Marco are for example, but they are friends and get along well ;)

9gqOebvd7Y4

and for the bending over thing, did Stan bend over last year in MC? ;)

Roger is just the better player more times than not and that's why he usually wins

That game Stan had at 4-3, where he had 3 game points for a 5-3 lead really cost him...he hung in there for the rest of the set, but the forehand and serve had some major problems in the tight moments.

Good win for Roger though

The only one who's ever had a longer streak is Connors who went 27/27 QFs in every slam he participated and 34/35.

Although he often didn't play the French or the Australian Open.

Roger:

No, I mean, it changes a lot, playing a good friend like Stan. Like I said, I don't have that very often. Obviously we've spent a lot of time as well away from, you know, just the tennis courts and the practice courts, so it makes it a bit harder.
But at the same time, you know, basically I think about playing him every point I play, but then I'm able still to play good tennis and put in a good performance.

Stan:

It's always very special to play Roger. We know each other so well. We've been through so much together. There was a lot of emotion on court today. We know each other by heart, practically.

:awww: :awww: :awww:

Has Wawa ever played a decent match against Federer? What an utterly useless match up.
