Soderling seems to be the better player on clay. Soderling in 4

Head goes with Soderling, heart goes with Marin.

I would be very very happy if Marin won this match, but match play and current clay form don't favor him.

flukerling in 3/4. You're saying Sod will win easily and yet call him a fluke at the same time. Typical Nadulltardiness.

I voted Robin in 4. He's better than Cilic, simple as that.

Perfect matchup for Soderling. Cilic's ball doesn't have enough pace, spin, slice, or variety to trouble Robin. He'll keep the ball in play, and Soderling will crush them.

Robin in 4.

Hopefully Soderling. It needs to be he and Fed in the quarters, maximizing the chances for another Nadal loss at RG.

Claycourt is not the best place for Marin to face Soderling...i wolud prefer to watch this matchup on grass
Soderling will have time to return the kick serve...and the time for prepare for his massive swings
Cilic returns are more effective on fast surfaces as well

They have never played each other so it should be interesting. Robin should take this though. It will probably take 4 sets though, since he'll probably brain fart/be off for a little bit.

Good post, my thoughts exactly.

This match-up on paper looks to be a really interesting tennis match, but on clay I can only see one winner, so Soda in 3-4 sets. I only say the option of a fourth set because Cilic can produce excellent tennis for periods regardless of any surface.

This is a tough one...

I'll give the nod to the "defending" finalist if not champion:

Sodapop in 4.

marin allready won against actualy finalist on GS, so it's time to repeat that. he can do that again

I just don't see any way at all for Marin to win unless Robin puts in a poor performance. Robin should hit him off the court, and Marin would be very well served to stand on the baseline and try to get the first strike in as much as possible, and not get caught behind the baseline rallying like he can be. I just don't know if he will be allowed to do so. Soderling in 3 or 4 sets.

I think it would be much more difficult to call in any of the other slams but you have to favour Soderling based on his first few matches and his superiority on clay. I can see Cilic taking a tiebreak though so I'm guessing Soderling in 4.

Soderking is kind of a better version of Marin so I'd say he wins in 3.

I don't see any similarities (apart from a big serve)

Cilic and a big serve :haha:

 The percentage is low but his serve is surely much better than average.

He's like 1-10 in tiebreaks in past few months.

I think Marin will rise to the occasion, but whether that will be enough is another matter. The mathcup suits both of them, but the surface favors Soda.

 The percentage is low but his serve is surely much better than average.

You're wasting your breath. He could be No1 in ace count instead of top 10 and the pundit samanosuke would still stand by his position. The difference between 'it could be even better with his height' and 'not good at all' is also lost on him.

Maybe is better than average but far from Robin's serve . And he usually has love percentage of first serve but on big points is even lower . In yesterday breaker the closest serve to be good was meter in out . It's just amazing to watch his serving in breaker . Every tennis fan must give a credit to him for that

I agree with you. For what is worth, it's going to rain a lot tomorrow which will slow down the courts significantly.

Funny how people think Soderling has been a God on clay this year when apart from reaching the Finals of Barcelona in mid-April, Soderling is only 1-3 on clay courts coming into the French Open with his lone win coming against Paolo Lorenzi in the first round of TMS Rome. Not to mention the opponents he as beaten here at the French have not exactly been quality players, apart from Montanes who did take a set off Soderling. I think an upset is looming here.

Comparing the player's play so far in this tournament is enough, Rome/Madrid/whatever is history. Not like he's a giant favorite but he has really thrived on the RG clay the past two years. Winning and only loosing 2 and 5 games respectively in matches is impressive whoever the opponent is.
