Which player from 2nd quarter will make SFs?

I just happened to look at the draw and stared at the head-scratcher that is the 2nd quarter:

Murray
Baghdatis

Berdych
Isner

Troicki
Youzhny

de Bakker
Tsonga

Who in the world is the favorite to come out of this section? Murray looked good against Chela but can struggle on clay. Baghdatis is playing well but again, clay is his worst surface. Same with Tsonga, Berdych, and Isner.

Really, I could see just about anyone except de Bakker or Troicki making the SFs. Could you imagine Federer and ISNER playing in a RG SF?

Gun to my head, I pick Tsonga. Who just so happened to nearly lose to Brands in the 1st round.

very interesting section, clay isnt the fav surface of any of those players

probably a Berdych-Tsonga match to decide it

Would be a victory for giants.

It really is a joke of a quarter, had this been a GS on hard or grass it would be a pretty good quarter mind you.

Still I'm going with a Berdych vs Tsonga QF to decide this.

Another thing is whoever does make the SF here will probably get killed in the Semi :o

Murray should be in the QF.And Youzhny-Tsonga will decide who will play against the Brit.It might be Tsonga.I don't know. This is one of the most interesting quarter of the draw.I pick Murray. The second best chance is for JoJo

I'm guessing Berdych has the best record on clay, but that's not saying much. Murray's the best player & it took a good clay-court player to take him out last year.

It's not even like we had any major upsets in this quarter so far.

From the original list there wasn't a single player that ever made RG semis before. Only two had made quarters before - Murray and Robredo.

I hope Tsonga. It'll be nice for the french.

Youzhny's best results have come on hardcourt (Dubai final, USO SF, AO QF).

If Murray maintains a high level he is the best tennis player of the bunch, but I just see him getting hit off the court in one of his next three matches. Tsonga having the crowd support might make the difference.

Youzhny wouldn't be a surprise. All-surface player who's made SF of a slam before.

yup, he's capable on clay but isnt in the best form at the moment
but he has the easiest 3d round match for sure

Hopefully Isner :) Once he hits top 10 he's staying there, and the sooner that happens the better.

Nothing against Tsonga but rather someone else so all the quarters can be played with some sort of neutrality in the stands.

Murray or Youzhny imo.

The former is playing well but is generally a bit uncertain on clay, the latter has been in sparkling form at points this year but not so much of late.

Tsonga and Berdych should be too inconsistent to make it.

The others shouldn't have a hope in hell really, if it has to be a surprise I'd take Baggy or De Bakker.

I'm actually thinking the same thing here, but who knows maybe both could somehow keep some consistency in their next few matches. I'm also uncertain about Murray and Isner's consistency on this surface mind you, sure both are more consistent than Tsonga and Berdych, but for some reason I feel both could play an horrible match at any given time.

Year to date W/L on clay.

Murray - 5/3
Baghdatis - 8/5
Berdych - 11/3
Isner - 8/9
Troicki - 7/7
Youzhny - 8/3
de Bakker - 9/4
Tsonga - 7/4

Berdych with the most wins and joint with Youzhny on the least losses. Quite impressive considering he didn't play Barcelona and Madrid as well.

Amazing to think Isner has played more matches on clay than any of them. He really committed himself to doing well on the surface and it worked. Lost his first 4 clay matches but improved dramatically last few weeks.

Yes, it is a very interesting section.

Youzhny obviously has a shot, but I'm thinking that he'd struggle in potential matches with Tsonga and Muzza.

Personally, I'm expecting the SF'ist to be either Muzza, Berdych or Tsonga. Imo there is a greater chance that Muzza will make his first SF here...certainly he can grind out those guys, and it is arguable that slower, damper conditions could give him a greater chance to do so. But that is assuming that they don't simply hit him off the court...

If Berdych and Tsonga meet, I'm honestly not too confident about picking a winner there...would probably lean slightly to Tsonga.

Youzhny will beat Tsonga if they play.

Murray will have a shot if his opponent is Isner in R4. If it's Berdych, he'll lose. I think Murray can easily lose to Baghdatis also, but likely will win.

People are saying Tsonga and Murray because they are the more thought of, more popular players. They certainly are not the best 2 clay court players in that section.

What a horrible quarter. I'll go with Berdych though.

Isner has no chance unfortunately.

I think Berdych is the most likely to beat Murray out of that quarter, but he can have off-days, so I'm not confident about predicting him to make the semi.

murray. only good clay courter has stopped him.

de bakker beat tsonga just recently. so i think tsonga will get beat.
youzhny from the bottom seems the safe choice.
top its between berdych and murray.
so youzhny got easiest route but i think it will be berdych or murray.
should be murray with all is recent big game experience.

After Round 3, have to go for the winner of Berdych-Murray. Tsonga with his injury will not have neough.

Berdych if he continues to play well and avoid choking... Murray is the safest choice... Rooting for Youzhny though... Any of these three match up better against Federer than Tsonga...

Berdych v Youzhny for a spot to face Federer in the Semis (assuming Fed ex wins!)

I see Youhzny is 6-5 in the h2h but Berdych won the last meeting on clay.

this one could be an epic given whats at stake I dont remember either of these two making many GS semi finals before!

The two guys I expected to make it did, I just hope they play a great high quality match! They are much better clay courters and it's much better to see them in this position than Tsonga or Murray.

Happy that Tomas did not let the pressure get to him. I think he should beat Youzhny and get to his first grand slam SF. Is this not the Berdman's first Grand Slam QF in almost 3 years (Wimbledon 2007) and only his 2nd overall? Well done, long time waiting for him to come through. :)
