RG R1: Hewitt def Chardy 7-5 6-0 6-4

05-25-2010, 06:35 PM
Tough to say how well Lleyton played as Chardy coughed up errors from 5-5 in the first until the middle of the third and all Lleyton had to do was put the ball in. Thankfully Chardy pushed him a bit more towards the end. The downpour started on match point but they thankfully got it wrapped up. Huge relief to get this done in 3 and in the one day.

Good Lleyton, please challenge Nadal, although I doubt

Chardy is only hit or miss ballbasher and cannot do anything else

Solid play from Hewitt, but Chardy was just ballbashing.

Hewitt should take out Istomin next and then be a victim of Nadal.

Rusty :woohoo::woohoo:

Lleyton did well, did what he had to do.

C'MON!! :clap2:

chardy was beyond pathetic..
things were ok until 5-4 in the first set, then he completely collapsed and played some of the worst tennis u'll see at grandslam level.
he only decided to fight back in the last 3 games, but it was obviously too late. im surprised he didnt get a warning for that second set.

good win for lleyton though

I despised Hewitt in his early career(until 2003-4 maybe) but since I started to like him more and more and now somehow I'm like a child thinking "When I grow up I want to be a spartan like lleyton and scream COOOOOOMEEE OOOONNNN!"
The guy's a hero, he could have another 20 surgeries and still come back and give his all, the guy just loves tennis.

Pff, I expected so much more from Chardy after his good win against Monaco in Dusseldorf.

05-25-2010, 07:16 PM
Poor Hewitt. He's due a good draw in a slam.

05-25-2010, 07:21 PM
abysmal from Chardy

UE machine stikes again.

Chardy was terrible.

Hewitt, looking forward to see if he can get a good draw on grass. Would love to see him in Djokovic's or Murray's quarter.

omg I don't even remember the last time Hewitt played only 3 sets on a slam. Good job.

I really had high hopes for Chardy about a year ago, but he's been terrible lately and it looks like it's only getting worse with his inconsistency. Today he was just absymal, the only thing Hewitt had to do was keep the ball in play.

So I wouldn't read too much into Hewitt's victory. He'll get slaughtered by Nadal at the latest.

poor Hewitt

just being lined up for another hammering from Nadal

so unlucky his draws, never seen more unlucky players in my life with draws than Hewitt & Gasquet

I hope Hewitt can shock the world and beat Nadal. :D

05-25-2010, 09:19 PM
Looks like Chardy played baseball again

05-25-2010, 09:31 PM
Well done Lleyton :D

05-25-2010, 09:35 PM
God bless you Hewitt!

05-25-2010, 11:03 PM
well done Lleyton :yeah:

omg I don't even remember the last time Hewitt played only 3 sets on a slam. Good job.

Huh? He won his 1st and 2nd rounds in his last three Grand Slams in straight sets, often in even more convincing manner than this.

It's good to see Hewitt doing well!

05-26-2010, 12:40 AM
You've gotta admire Lleyton. The guy's had two hip surgeries and he keeps coming back for more.

He's like Keith Richards' liver - he never quits, he never dies.

05-26-2010, 03:39 AM
Well done Lleyton! Just as long as he lives up to his seed and puts up a fight against Rafa, I'm happy.

05-26-2010, 06:35 AM
Thats what I like to see.

05-26-2010, 06:55 AM

Jeremy needs to pull it together, get on the practice court and start finding his feel again. It's ridiculous now how he makes errors on the most simple of shots.

Lleyton played smart and played well but really wasn't required to do much outside of put the ball in the court. Should win his R2 to set up another RG clash with Rafa.

Hewitt :yeah:

Every GS he says just before he plays Federer or Nadal in the 3rd or 4th round he always says that he thinks that he could cause an upset every time, i think this time he might be able to, even though Rafa is in the best of form and basically nothing to lose accept a few points from last years 4th round i think he still might not bring out his best game. I want Rafa to regain number 1 but i want Lleyton to get a huge massive shock win so i hope Lleyton can bring it home in a tight 5 setter good luck to both players, but we all know Rafa should win that match a go on to win the tournament.
