Amazing Grega  Did not expect this result. :D

First Slovenian MD slam win. :worship:

Once again, playing at that ARAG event is the absolute kiss of death, as Monaco looked apathetic from the start. That said, I was really impressed by Grega's big hitting for four sets against a seeded player.

Grega was very aggressive and after some of the huge chokes he has had, great for him to get the win.

this is what happens when you win a tournament before a slam. gasquet made the same mistake.

Juan looked very very flat today and Grega took advantage. Hit the ball hard and went after his shots.

With that said, Grega won 3-1 in sets and only won 4 more points. That shows Juan had chances and could have definitely won this match, but didn't take advantage. Even against players out of the top 100 they will make you pay for that.

Grega 3/7 break points
Juan 2/17 break points

That was the difference in the match.

Isn't Monaco still injured with that wrist problem, really shouldn't of played.

Congrats to Grega though for his first slam win.

Gaudio won after playing WTC I think. I guess they should just have 4 players in the team, so that no one has to play too many matches. This time they had only Veronelli as 4th man.

I wouldn't say Grega played like a top 20 player necessarily, but he did play very well and went for the victory aggressively instead of letting it be handed to him, definitely played better than his ranking suggests. He also kept his head when he was down 15-30 in the last game, when he usually chokes. It's a big win for him that should give him a lot of confidence going further.

He did and Söderling did alright last year after playing Düsseldorf.

This sucks. I like Monaco. Oh well, he hasn't exactly played that well lately anyway.

Great play from Zemlja though.

He definitely had a major tape job going on with the wrist/forearm.

I guess he'll go have the surgery now and be out for a bit.

I guarantee you that playing three hard fought matches when you're already struggling with injuries a few days before the French Open took its toll on Monaco. He should have been in Paris a week earlier getting in better shape for this tournament, and now he's going home because of such stupid scheduling.

Credit to Isner for realizing that he needed some rest after four straight weeks of playing and getting the hell out of Dusseldorf in the middle of the event, although I don't know why in the world Isner or Querrey even went there at all.

Congratulations for Zemlja. He played a very aggresive game and hit every shot. Monaco could never find the way to overcome that tactic and lost many chances of break points aswell. The only thing that Monaco should have done was to make Zemlja play longer points but he was unable to do it in the whole match.

Zemlja was impressive on the final game. Strong groundstrokes, no errors and only a wonder shot by Monaco had him down 15-30.

:woohoo:

HISTORIC DAY FOR SLOVENIA, first grand slam win by a male player - and Kavčič also does it, on the same day!!!!!!!!!

Monaco was far from 100%, but still a HUGE win.
The best thing is that Gabashvili is winnable too!!!

3 too much for his wrist

When 3 best-of-3-matches in one week are too much for his wrist (which I don't think they are), then he shouldn't play in a Slam with best-of-5-matches, either.
