No thread? GOOD. Now I get to make it.
Fantastic win from Kei, and down two sets to love at that. Unbelievable. Taking out the trash. Surely he will be exhausted after these whirlwind couple of weeks, but I look forward to watching him take it to Djokovic.

Maybe my thread was 1 minute late. Never mind!

That was a great come back from Kei. :worship::worship::worship:
Giraldo dominated from the baseline early on, but Kei hanged in there in the third set and showed an array of his arsenal in the tie break. Those drop shots, volley winners, laser-sharp FH winners were so great to watch.

Giraldo had a thigh problem in the fourth set and Kei received massage on his right knee before the decider, but it was Kei who drew the first blood in the fifth set and he never looked back.

Good luck against Djokovic! Hope Kei can recover well from this long match in time for the second round.

Like I said in the other thread.. I was sad to see Giraldo didn't make it, since I was cheering for him. But all credit to Kei, he played an excellent match and obviously deserved the win. Nice to see Asian players doing well too.

Tough lost for Giraldo but I'm just glad Kei somehow turn it around in the brink of defeat.

Now I can really look forward to his match against Novak, should be fun to watch as I like both players.

Great result against a capable claycourter. Reckon Nishikori was just playing himself into this one and finding his game, he's been away for so long.

Kei reminds me of Ferrer, except better---less grinding and more neutral/offense, and with more weapons at his disposal. I think he's going to be a real major force, sooner rather than later.

Great comeback for Kei! Santiago didn`t look well on the 4th set but all the credit for Kei who looked tired in the 5th set too. Congrats!

Omg. Beating an in-form clay player at RG from two sets down. Kei, you are my new hero. :worship:

That's 11 wins in a row. Back into the top 200. Keep it up Nishi. :worship:

Shame it has to be Djokovic next. Such a harsh draw.

Harsh, but that's by name only. In terms of tennis level, Nole definitely isn't at peak performance. You never know what can happen, the fact the courts/conditions will be slower by then could also help Kei. But he's already done great by winning this match the way he did. I'm so happy for him. All his hard work after getting hurt is really paying off.

Already top 200? Wow, he only just started back!

Yes Djokovic's form is unpredictable but he's still heavy favourite even if not at his best. He was unlucky to draw Giraldo 1st round, let alone a top 4 seed 2nd round.

Indeed, physically there shouldn't be an issue - TOUCH WOOD!!!

Will be really pissed off if he gets tired or injured again any time soon.

It's refreshing to see everyone on MTF be so positive about a player. I wonder how good he'll have to get before the haters start showing up ;)

yeah looking forward to this match, Djokovik has only played him once on hardcourt. Nishikori is only 20 years old. The commentators were saying last night that he had signed a sports contract that has set him up for life

Wish Giraldo could have made at least a little run here.

But good to see Kei start ing to win again at majors. His game is a pleasure to watch.

This must have been a real mighty mite shotmaking battle.

Santi :sobbing: The guy is mentally not made for Grand Slam matches, I think, and now his physique brought him down too.

For someone who has had to endure so much hardship as Nishikori, I am happy he got a win though.

Nishikori showing how an injury should be handled, coming back when you feel well again, something a lot of players can learn from. Many rush back when they're still injured and not 100% and just make it worse like idiots.
