The last two sets when Roger was playing freely, was really a treat to watch. He was hitting sublime volleys (a few sweet S/Vs in there), dropshots and little touch lobs.

More concretely his forehand was the usual dominant shot with few shanks, backhand looked extremely solid (he was putting a ton of action on it and it led to a lot of UEs by Luczak) and his serve was firing on all cylinders.

His return is still a little shaky, and sometimes his movement is suspect (like 1 pt on, 1 pt off).

The first set before Luczak started spraying the court was the best one and more indicative of whta he'll face later, and there you could see the slight weakness on the return.

Great variety shown by Federer. This game play should do him good to reach the final which should be enough to break Sampras's record of consecutive weeks as number one player. :D

Looks like the organizers gave Federer a chance to beat Nadal in the Final, the courts are very very fast for clay, even faster than last year.

It was playing pretty fast, but not any faster than last year. However the ball was really kicking up, which will probably help Rafa not hurt him.

On a few of Federer and Luczak's second serves, the ball literally went over their head and they had to reach to even connect.

Loved that point in the third when Federer was on the defense the whole time then dinked a little drop shot to take it, very nice.

It was because there was something in Federer mind he was so scared , although I am Rafa fan I don't like how Fed was embarrassed in this match but it is not the clay fault. Plus Nadal was the best in 2008.

Well, don't think you'll have that this year. The weather forecast is not looking good..if the complaint is hot, dry sunny weather = bad for Nadal then how did he win 4 RG? Surely there were some hot sunny dry days during 2005 -2008.

The fast clay will only give Federer easy matches to the final and some tough matches for Nadal, but in the final this factor won't be so important, because when Fedal play, the speed of the court isn't crucial

That's exactly what I think he's doing. It's worked partially in Madrid but he hasn't tried it enough there, RG is more suitable for that.

The speed of the courts is not really going to make a lot of difference for Federer should he face Nadal in the final. The courts were fast today, but there was some serious action on the balls coming off the court. Nadal will, therefore, be able to extract more weak shots and unforced errors from Federer's backhand. And if the courts were slower for the final, the bounce of the ball would be lower, which would make Federer's backhand more reliable, but Nadal would be certain to make fewer unforced errors throughout the match and win in three or four sets. Faster courts or slower courts, either way, Federer, and most others, are going to find themselves in trouble against Nadal.

Nadal is the best choice for this year's French Open.
