Mike answered by saving 2 match points in the fourth set.

He actually saved four match points, one at *4-5 and three more at *5-6

Good luck to Mike for tomorrow. It's a pity there are no lights at a GS event :(

Seems like a hard court match on clay, which is expected by looking at the match up. Only 1 break of serve.

Hopefully Mike gets it done, but serving first after the break tomorrow hopefully doesn't ruin his rhythm and he has the energy for tomorrow.

Has anyone actually seen the Winner/UE ratio in this match? :speakles:

Yani is 115/103
Lacko is 100/88

Practically identical!

I'm thinking Mike won't care. He would have his first slam and first ATP win, a decent paycheck and some ranking points for his efforts, and he's already having a pretty good time in Paris. Considering all the years he's been kicking around the Challenger circuit, and his own comments that he's not really a clay court players, I think winning this one match would be sweet on its own regardless what happens in the next round. (Then he can pal around with Horia for a few days before heading to London for grass).

One is sure-Youzhny will go through the 3rd round easy. And there he could meet Robredo, who is not so unvincible on clay. Then in the 4th round, his eventual opponent will be Tsonga.I can predict that the Russian will make the QF,although I don't want to reach it.

The match between Yani and Lacko is dramatic and tomorrow it can continue to 18-16,for example, but it also can end in 10-8 victory for one of the players.I don't care who will win the match, but I bet for Lacko

I thought I can post some nice stats according to the match as of now.
Lacko got 64 of 216 receiving points which means (assuming independence) 9.49% probability of breaking.
Yani got 53 of 204 receiving points which means (assuming independence) 5.86% probability of breaking.
That means Lacko has 8.93% to win 10-8 and Yani has 5.3%.
In total Lacko has 62.74% to win and Yani has 37.26%.
Also, 14.24% that the set will end 10-8, which is approximately 1/7 so on average, the set will end after 14 games which means 16-14.

Of course, tomorrow is a new day...

It`s embarrassing to see matches suspended because of darkness in this century. At every masters series event they can play into the night and even at Wimbledon they did improvements on Center Court. The French Open is still a couple of decades behind.

Agreed.

I watched the 4th and 5th yesterday, hugely entertaining stuff. Both players were in the zone on serve, painting the lines with winners. Both players also missed a series of easy service returns.

Crowd gave the players a standing ovation when play was suspended.

Ugh, reminds me of today when I saved 5 SPs. In the first set, I was down 4-5* 30-40 and managed to win it 7-6(4) and in the second set, I saved 4 SPs (2SP saved down 1-5* 15-40 and 2 SP down *2-5 15-40 and then down 3-5* 15-30, then *4-5 0-15 until I won 6 games in a row to win the match 7-6(4) 7-5

Not surprising. Lacko is a better hard court player than Yani, and since this is basically a hard court match played on a hard court, Lukas was always favored to win. Great job to both competitors for such a hard fought match.

Misha is going to be loving this, especially since he just beat Lacko in Madrid. Easy first two rounds for him.

71 games. Matches the FO record since the introduction of the tiebreak.
Now shared by 4 different matches (the others being 3 out of the top 4 in the RG section of the Longest Matches thread (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=4370636&postcount=1)).

12-10 for the first time in Paris since 1992.

Great win for Lacko who suffered two bitter defeats in Davis Cup 2 years ago:
Labadze 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3, 3-6, 17-19
Tipsarevic 7-6(3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-8

BTW it's weird that a player without a game dominated by service games has already played 3 matches of this kind.

I really feel bad for Yani. Just winning a match at a GS would mean more to him than to practically anyone else in the draw, I think. He's made great strides though, so if he keeps it up, I am sure he will get his win. Hopefully he can qualify at Wimbledon now. Seems to have developed into an all-court player, so there's a chance.
