lol Tsonga having so much trouble in first round. He isn't that good on clay. He needs to lose 20 pounds to be a threat in other slams.

Brands never had the slightest chance to win this.

Brands chooked indeed. I still like this player. Congrats to Tsonga.

Similar scoreline to Tsonga's match against Almagro at Aussie Open.

Brands should take a lot from this...very good composure against a top 10 opponent in France at the biggest stage. That is except for those blown 40-15 leads the last 2 service games

A Tsonga-Ouanna match could be kinda interesting

Bwah. Tsonga just got lucky as he was proclaiming the entire match. In comparison to Brands' "luck", Tsonga did in fact get lucky.

Fun match to watch, credit to Tsonga for pulling through and Brands for almost producing on the big stage.

Dammnit Jo... Why the F were you returning like 5 meters behind the baseline!!!!!!!!!

I always felt Jo would win, but, even though I really don't like him too much, it's too bad Brands basically choked the way he did there at the end. The situation was too much and he ran out of gas.

Brands needs a regulation backhand, better fitness/movement, and a better second serve, otherwise he's just going to be a mediocre ball-basher for his career.

Brands was striking the ball beautifully at times, still it's not good news for Tsonga to play an almost 4hour match in his first round :o

This is typical Tsonga gets lucky draws prevails to chookers or a stomach ill Nole in last AO.

Well that was an entertaining match for sure! Should have been much easier for Tsonga but in some regards he is lucky to be through. But I recall a similar 5 setter at the AO. He could well make it tthrough to the SF despite struggling a little on the surface.

A Tsonga-Ouanna match could be kinda interesting

Going to be a lot of errors and running around backhands to smash forehands. Ouanna can definitely win it. But I don't consider ball bashing overly interesting, personally.

he did not play in Madrid. may be this helped him get his repairs back.

Have to give Jo credit for fighting through whatever physical issues he was dealing with. Ouanna can definitely beat him if he doesn't pick it up.

In the 4th set, Brands just couldn't miss a first serve, and Tsonga for some reason thought he was Nadal and was returning 5 meters behind the baseline, going backward, short and into the middle of the court.

Seriously Jo, WTF!!!

Good fight from Tsonga. He played a terrible tiebreak in the fourth but recovered nicely and fought off a worthy challenger. In the end, they both gave a good account of themselves.

Next up: Ouanna. Tsonga's got two days to recover and should prevail in straights.

It was a nice match to watch. Tsonga showed one more time his problems to play on clay courts while Brands played a great match but showed so many weaknesses on his game (this was the first time I watched him but he seemed to have some troubles to move around the court, 2nd serve and game attack strategy (his backhand volley was terrible).
