Betty are you around? Here's the recipe for the cake:

Cake with chocolate and pistachios

Ingredients for the base:

60g unsalted almonds (skin removed)
70g unsalted pistachios
50g confectioner's sugar
70g white chocolate (melted in bain marie)
50g cream (35%)
10g corn flour
60g egg whites (from 2 eggs approximately)

Ingredients for the chocolate mousse:

400g cooking chocolate (55% cocoa)
400g cream (35%) whipped in mixer until it's thick
200g milk

Preparation of the Biscuit Base:
Put almonds, pistachios, sugar and corn flour in blender and grind until fine; transfer to a bowl and add the cream and the egg whites; mix well, then add the melted white chocolate and mix. Spread the mixture on parchment paper at 1cm thick and bake in preheated oven at 170-180C for 15-20 minutes. Let cool down then cut 2 circles of 18cm diameter. (careful when you move them, they are very soft)

Preparation of the chocolate mousse:
Cut the chocolate in small pieces. Heat the milk; when it starts boiling, pour over the chocolate. Mix very well until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is homogeneous. Add the whipped cream and mix gently.

Putting together the cake:
Place a circular pan without bottom (like the one in the photo below) with a diameter of 20cm on a plate/dish. Put one of the biscuit bases in, then pour half of the chocolate mousse on top of it; then put the 2nd biscuit base in and finally the rest of the mousse on top. Keep in refrigerator for a few hours until it becomes more solid. Remove the metal pan (you can use a hair dryer to heat the walls of the pan so that it slides easily) and decorate the sides and top of the cake with ground pistachios.

I am going to have potatoes and gravy for dinner.

Boil potatoes (new potatoes are in season) in water. Wait about 15-20 minutes until cooked through. Drain and mash roughly with a fork.

Heat up frying pan. Wipe frying pan with tiny amount of olive oil. Add potatoes to crisp outside slightly. While pototoes are crisping, boil kettle. Get jar of Bisto gracy granules from cupboard. Place 4 heaped teaspoons of gravy granules into measuring jug. Add boiled water from kettle to granules until the gracy is of desired consistency.

Remove potaoes from frying pan and place on plate, or in bowl. Drown potatoes in delicious gravy.

Eat.

 My brother and I always begged for "town bread" because we thought it was soooo exotic and soft and gooey. Now, I hate it. But I did like to cook. I was always cooking even when I had to stand on a chair to reach the counter to stir the dough.

The white chocolate is for the base only and only in small quantity.

I don't think this cake is particularly sweet (I don't like desserts that are too sweet either), but what you and I consider too sweet might be different.

Baklava. That's what is too sweet. It makes my teeth hurt. I can eat only one bite and then lots of coffee (black, no sugar) to chase it.

I am going to have potatoes and gravy for dinner.

Boil potatoes (new potatoes are in season) in water. Wait about 15-20 minutes until cooked through. Drain and mash roughly with a fork.

I just looked up bisto granules and I can get them from Amazon. What flavor do you recommend?

I prefer just cut up whole new potatoes though. I love them with their little jackets on.

Querrey's presser is a shocker. Disgusting attitude from a professional sportsman.

It was fucking pathetic.

I admire the honesty.

His attitude is bizarre though.

The honesty might be the worst part. I'm sure a lot of players tank matches and a lot of them think about going home as they're tanking. That's bad enough. Don't be honest about it in your post-match interview, especially if you're going to sound more like Eeyore than Marat Safin.

He displayed the attitude of a 6yo whose dad just forced him to practice too much. He needs to grow up. He didn't enjoy himself? What the fuck is that?

star, who is your favourite player ever? Your FOAT?

See? That's hard. Bjorn Borg was my first love, so I have to say him. I respected and admired Arthur Ashe so much too -- but more as a person than just a tennis player.

Stefan Edberg, Guga, Patrick Rafter. Those too. And the little twisted Coria. but not so much as the other three.

I shudder to think how Bjorn Borg might have been treated had MTF been around then.

Eva is learning you how to curse in Dutch, I see.

The Dutch tend to like to use diseases when cursing: krijg de kolere ((I hope you) get cholera), de tyfus (typhoid), kanker (cancer), kankerlijer,...(cancer sufferer)

Flemings tend to refer to excrement a bit more + they refer to genetalia: merde (blame the French  ), krijg het schijt (quite similar), klote (bollocks), het gaat naar de kloten (it's fucked up),...

More and more, we're adopting English words, though: shit, fuck,... They wish terrible illnesses on each other? I think the only kind of equivalent thing in English is "Eat shit and die."

Hi everyone Jolan

Where is the drama.

I read the last page of a couple of chat threads and it was all shit. Excalidramaqueen on Nathii's thread, semi-literate teens on the Castle and  on Cozy Castle. Decent analysis, I'd say.

Ernie out of Queens, possibly out of Wimbledon

Querrey's presser is a shocker. Disgusting attitude from a professional sportsman. Thanks for posting it. He sounds like he's maybe going through some burnout or maybe needs to work with a sports psychologist.

Betty are you around? Here's the recipe for the cake: Sounds good, Metis. I copied and pasted that recipe. Thanks.

I didn't copy and paste Linda's, Mike's or Merton's recipes though. :p

*well as im obviously reading in here I can at least say hi to all in here ;) :wavey: Hi, Eva.

Have you ever tried that maple syrup diet?
Seriously? There's a maple syrup diet? Maple syrup has a fair amount of calories.

You just have to give it a try by yourself and ask them for advice. I was never really taught either. I didn't cook at all before I went to the US (apart from boiling pasta and frying eggs. Once I was on my own I had to learn; I couldn't eat out all the time and I hated frozen/packaged meals. I got some of my mother's recipes and started with the easy stuff. I would always call her for advice and explanation of the details; once I woke my parents up at 3 in the morning for a cooking emergency. :rolls:

I love baking much more than other kinds of cooking. Me too. I like cooking but much prefer baking. I don't like cleaning up afterwards though.

It was fucking pathetic.

Well said.

This makes it sound as if Rafachat is JM's water closet.  Are all of us in the bathroom together?

I guess I'm a bit paranoid about washing fruit; there is usually a bit of dirt/dust on them. Besides you never know what chemicals they have been sprayed with. Exactly. Me too.

Sammy's gonna get a talking to. If only BD had applied for that assistant's job (or whatever it was).

I was thinking all this cooking talk was making me really hungry in the middle of the afternoon, and then suddenly I remembered I hadn't eaten lunch! I cannot live without a dishwasher. The first year I lived in my house I didn't have one. That was the first time ever in my life I had to wash dishes (besides the odd thing that can't go in the dishwasher).

Seriously? There's a maple syrup diet? Maple syrup has a fair amount of calories.

It sounds great:

For one day’s worth of serving:

* 12 tablespoons Organic Grade B Maple Syrup (or 2 tbsp. per glass)
* 12 tablespoons freshly squeezed organic lemon juice (or 2 tbsp. per glass)
* a little over half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper (or 1/10 tsp. per glass) or to taste
* 60 oz of pure filtered water per day (spread over 6 10 oz glasses)

Combine the juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper in a 10 ounce glass and fill with medium hot water. (Cold water may be used if preferred.) Sip until gone, repeat throughout the day.

And that's all you have. For a minimum of 10 days.

Well, Rafa is certainly a front runner. It's just that I feel loyal to these old loves. Arthur Ashe was such a fine person. He'll always be a hero to me. Edberg gave me so many thrills and heartbreaks too. I think Rafa is right up there with these people as a person -- well not perhaps with Arthur Ashe because he was special in that way. It's the sweetie factor I value in a player as much as the playing.

I think if you ask me 10 years from now about my favourite player ever I'll say it's Rafa :)

Eat.

moving ending, some touch-sensitive switch design there. :yeah:

... Reporting last month in the journal American Naturalist, Dr. Stephanie J. Schrag of Emory University and her co-workers studied 49 populations of a freshwater African snail called Bulinus truncatus, carrier of the parasitic worm that causes schistosomiasis, a scourge among the people of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The researchers discovered that the snail can shift its reproductive practices depending on whether there are likely to be parasitic worms in the water. If all is clear, the snails happily self-fertilize, crossing their eggs with internalized stores of sperm. But during the season of highest parasitic infestation, many snails grow penises and engage in sexual intercourse.

The key that spells the difference is water temperature: snails that spend their early days in warm water mature into self-fertilizing adults, while those reared in cold water turn into the variety equipped with so-called euphalluses.

"If it's colder when the snails are young, by the time they reach maturity it will be quite warm," Dr. Schrag said. "And the warm season is when the parasite prevalence really picks up."

Neither Dr. Shrag nor any other scientist believes that parasites alone explain the conundrum of sex, but they increasingly appear to be a large part of the puzzle. Paradoxically, then, the bearers of pain and death may also be a source of one of life's greatest joys.

Review of the first Eurosong SF final:
From the land that brought us manlove :o, Greece with OPA! Will easily reach the top 10 in the final.

Reminds me of that group of street artists I pass just about every day on my way to the metro here in Brussels. They usually come with a wide collection of weird looking music instruments and they're actually quite good. Very cheerful bunch. The other day, one of them was shouting "OPA! OPA! OPA!" all the time which made me grin as I passed him after which he started to talk to me in a language I can't understand. The only word that I could catch was "Romania".

As contrary to the regular Fedtard i don't think my favorite is entitled to win a title as long as steps down on court. For Rafa, SF and F on HC are good enough. He'll win one from time to time, I'm not greedy :)
Of course I don't consider Barcelona a more important tournement than USO but I repeat, it's not only USO that counts. If it did we would only have 8 weeks of tennis/year and it's not like that, isn't it?

Here as well but most of them are . Only a few stand out with actually a bit of quality music. That Romanian bunch is usually so cheerful that you can't help but smile.

Once in a while, a bunch of students from a music school take their instruments to the streets bring classical music. They're fantastic.

On the way from the railway station to the metro, there's this one spot to stand that's very much in demand. I've seen quite a few fights among street singers for that spot. It's usually where the Romanian bunch stand as well. There used to be a tiny but very feisty Portuguese female singer who would shout and wave her fist at anybody who tried to "take HER spot" but she's been conquered, I think.

Heya's posts were great by themselves but Snoo did an excellent job putting those fragments together to form that poem. The photo in the end was the cherry on top.

Yep, credit to Snoo! :worship:

Sometimes I can get a good result out of whacking stuff together but I'm no brilliant chef... and I really don't enjoy cooking at all (but I do enjoy eating :p )

Dewulf is a big fan, though he controlled his temper better on court. It's quite funny as he is quite placid off the court, but the opposite on the court.

I remember at the AO when he played Rampras at qualies and he was complaining about the yellow the ballkids wore because it was the same colour as the ball.

Nothing wrong with that. To me cooking is like a useful hobby. Maybe if I had a big family to cook for, I wouldn't feel the same way.
