In the men’s event the wild cards have been awarded to Josh Goodall, Daniel Smethurst and James Ward - British numbers four, six and seven respectively. In addition Ryan Harrison, an 18 year-old American currently ranked 267 in the world has also been given a wild card as the players embark on their grass court preparations ahead of Wimbledon.

I think one of the Frenchmen are going to win: Clement, Mahut and/or ERV. My darkhorse pick is Muller. I love the entry list. These guys are real grass court players. Some of the guys are still playing doubles in RG so we'll see what happens with them.

I think Berankis can do really well on grass, it will be interesting to see what happens with him.

This tournament is very popular because of being the first grass tournament for the season and still no livescore to follow the matches. Yes it is ITF and ATP challenger level tournament but they could of done this to make it more accessible for the fans around the world.

Very nice of them to give Ryan Harrison a WC. Hopefully he will capitalize on it.Jamie Baker got a wild card into Carson as part of a reciprocal agreement between the LTA & the USTA. I'm guessing that Harrison's wild card in Nottingham is the other half of the deal.

Arnaud has a good draw, Ebden is pretty tough but if he gets through that I definitely see a SF at least for him.

Taylor has a really good draw and should make the QF easily at the very least.

Dima vs. Muller, ATP match right there. Both are too good for challengers, it will be interesting to see who wins that. Winner can easily make the SF.

I think Boggo is going to beat Raji in R1.

Berankis vs. Dancevic, young hopeful vs. talented veteran coming off injury. Interesting to see who wins that, winner would likely play Anderson which would be fun to watch.

I think the final will be Arnaud/Ball vs. Dent.

I like the draw, a lot of real grass players here. I wish Mahut were here, though, I think he would have won this event.

Good luck to Tomic and Millman today, Millman is coming off a very very good win up against Dmitrov in straight sets. When the qualy draw cam out i seen John's name an i thought great then i saw he was playing Dmitrov so i thought well he wont win then but he did so well done. Also disappointing that Klein lost but i rather Tomic and he could make it further in this tournament.

Also good luck to Guccione, Ball, Ebden and Jones in the main draw, would be great to see an all aussie final here espically between Ball and Guccione. It will be good to see how Carsten does go on the grass good luck Ball.

i went on sat, saw dent practice no wonder he lost 0, 1 and 1, his short tennis practice consisted of hitting the ball into the ground his side, then the opponents in the service box, like a table tennis serve. utterly useless thing to do if you ask me.

saw dan evans also, in normal clothes looks like any average 15 year old, im 6ft 1in and he barely reached my shoulders in height lol.

should be going tomorrow if all goes well, weather looks far better than today to.

It's raining in the UK.
Light rain showers in Nottingham - might stop for 2 or 3 hours this afternoon so could be some matches played then. Heavy rain again from 6/7pm this evening.

Dry, sunny and getting hot for rest of the week.

Totally absurd, they must be sure tomorrow will be sunny otherwise 2 rounds will be scheduled in one day.

Excellent win for Alex Ward there. :bigclap:

Pretty sure that the two Wards are not related!

James Ward vs. Goodall will be interesting as these two are in prime contention for the other live singles spot in next month's Davis Cup tie. Goodall more suited to grass, but his form is worse than Ward's. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Good chance for Slabinsky to get a MD win...I doubt that Mannarino can be particularly effective on grass.

Boggo vs. Ram could go either way, although you should probably favour Ram slightly as he is most effective on grass. But Boggo can certainly play on this surface, so hopefully he will play a good match.

Will look out for the Willis vs. Ilhan result...have never seen Willis play, but this is an interesting match purely as concerns the upcoming Davis Cup tie.

I knew Ebden could beat Arnaud. Ebden is a good player, I'm surprised he hasn't really done much really, or at least I haven't heard much from him until this year.

Arnaud, if you can't win on grass, where are you headed in your career? Hope you pull it together in Queens.

As for Frank, he's just coming back. I like Ricardas too so I'm not happy with them playing each other, but Frank did well to keep the match close. Once he gets a few matches under his belt he'll be fine.

Hopefully Gilles and Dima can both improve their rankings so they don't have to play challengers anymore. Too bad one of them had to go out. Congrats to Dima on the good win! He's definitely the favorite to make it to the SF now, possibly against Dent. That would be an awesome match to watch.

Jesse has a good chance to make the SF too, and he needs to take advantage. He is in desperate need for a good event.

Ricardas vs. Anderson is going to be a great match. I hope Berankis wins so he plays Harrison in the QF.

All in all, it's a cool tournament with some interesting results so far and some expected results. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

I went to the tournament yesterday, excellent day out and some great tennis. Free entry and free parking. Got to see nearly all of the above matches and the ITF Ladies event is also going on at the same time. If you can make it then go.

My view on the players is:

Tursunov: Still a little ring rusty but showed no signs of injury, Was quick around the court and took care of a quality opponent. Muller played an excellent match and Tursunov was still too strong.

Dent: Was watching him closely at the change of ends. He looked like it was taking him all of his effort to sit down although he won in straight sets. That serve looks hard to deal with on the grass and mixed in with powerful forehand and sliced backhand will cause opponents much trouble on grass.
I only give him 12-24 months back on the tour before something else breaks in his body but he will be a danger in any 1 match shoot out.

Clement: What an a*******. The guy was abusing the ball boys, moaning about everything and just didn't look like he wanted to be there. Was deservedly beaten by Ebden who was the better player on the day and a worthy winner. Clement was arguing the toss over line calls and gamesmanship came in to his game all too often for my liking. Dent and Tursunov, despite their greater standing in the game were perfect gentlemen, Clement the opposite.

J Ward: Took care of a hard hitting Goodhall in 2 impressive sets. Ward maybe has the quality to do bigger and better things, possibly lacks the power and physical presence to go all the way.

A Ward: I tell you what he looked impressive, fantastic win over DeHeart who didn't really do anything wrong and ranked massively higher than Ward. Ward looked keen, powerful and focused. High quality stuff from the young Brit.

The class of the field is Tursunov, if he can play his way in to the event he should win but this is a quality grass court lineup make no mistake.

Tursunov/Muller were playing last on Centre - probably didn't start until 6.30pm?

It was more to do with the fact that Court 8 is basically a practice court right the other side of the centre, so i wasn't going to go all the way over there just to try and pick up a couple of scores.

I didn't update from Centre Court (including Tursunov against Muller which was last on) because I thought bet365 were covering it, so didn't bother.
:crying2:, nice logic, there was live scores yesterday on first round, but second round is less important?, hopefully tomorrow will scores like yestersay

Wednesday was the day I went (and so gave scores). I haven't gone today so no scores. I'm not an official feed or anything.

Really enjoyed the men's matches, some good quality grass court players on show. Bozo v Navarro and Boggo v Ram were the best quality out of what I saw imo.

The Wardinator's game is really made for grass, big serve and solid compact groundstokes. De Heart though basically gave him a break in each set though at 5-5 in the first set and 5-6 in the third set with some bad errors.

Goodall v Ward was pretty poor I though, a lot of errors. Goodall really should of won, if he played half as well as he did last year he would have. I'm still struggling to see what the deal is with Wardy I'm afraid.

Slabba's match could have gone either way from the little I saw of it, but he started to get really annoyed about some line calls (I did see an exceptionally bad one earlier) and Mannarino pulled away in the third set.

I didn't watch any of the first set of Willis' match but one of the British Tour players commented he was playing exceptionally. He took a toilet break at the end of the set and started to play some good stuff and I think went a break up (but that might have been the scoreboard being wrong) but it never really felt like he was going to win. Willis seemed to be trying to bring Ilhan forward as much as possible with drop shots. Ilhan was just a solid all-round player with no special shots but no apparent weakness.

Boggo had the task of taking on Ram who must have served about 70% first serves in and came in off most. I don't think there was any break points first set, every time Boggo got a sniff Ram would just come up with a massive ace. Boggo lost his serve first point of the tie-break after a shot clipped the net and he could re-adjust his body to hit his forehand properly. It was all on serve to the end with Ram serving two aces to finish. Second set looked like it was carrying on in the same vain but Boggo got a break point mid-way through, Ram serve and volleyed but Boggo hit a running forehand pass winner. I'm not sure there was a break point until the 11th game of the third set where Boggo got 0-40 (missed volley and double fault to start from Ram, can't remember the third point). First break point Ram hits a massive second serve, return goes long. Second break point, ace down the T. Third break point Ram serves past Boggo out wide "come on" says Ram "let" says the umpire. Ram recomposes himself and sends an ace down the T instead. At deuce Ram is made to play a tough low volley which gives Boggo an easy backhand pass attempt which he makes. Fourth break point...and this time Boggo squezes a forehand pass down the line. Ram looks very deflated and Boggo serves out to love. Leon Smith was watching this and Slabba's match but watched the whole of Boggo's final set.

Elsewhere Ebden deservably beat Clement, who seemed way to passive and as usual was shouting at anyone who dared flinch in the crowd. The top half looks a lot weaker now and the winner of Anderson and Berankis could well come through and take the title.

In the bottom half Bozo was involved a good quality match with Navarro, but Bozo's superior skills off the ground shone through. Bozo is effortlessly cool and volatile at the same time, and has become one of my favourite players. Dent looks like he could do with losing a couple of stone, but his serve was easily the biggest on show and should be in a quarter-final match with Bozo which could decide the winner. Court 8 is basically a practice court right on the other side of the centre so I didn't see what Soeda was like, and I only saw the end of Turnunov's match so I couldn't really tell what shape he is in, but obviously he should be a ridicously dangerous floater.

Stadler back on the old time Wimbledon track!
Pretty surprising loss for Bozo and Levine
Mannarino is talented, but Begemann is a low level S & V
anyway Jesse Levine is losing his 2008-2009 level...

Losing to Soeda on grass could be not a good performance for the short grass season...

Jesse has had a TERRIBLE year. He just can't get back on track. Adrian and Jesse are very similar, and Adrian seems to be playing decently in his comeback from his injuries, so the result isn't too surprising to me.

Bozo had a good start to the year, but his results have been poor lately. Just to inconsistent to rely on. Begemann has a game that translated well to grass, though.

This tournament has definitely been surprising, I still can't believe Taylor lost to some guy in the 600s in the rankings. Very unpredictable. Hopefully Dima wins this event.

If Tursunov beats Ilhan it will remain no seeds in quarter and Tursunov would be the big name to beat.

Boggo *3-4

Just had 0-40 on Soeda serve but the Japanese player raised his game.

first two set score and last third set score?

All I was told via telephone was that the Tursunov and Boggo matches were playing the third set. He didn't know the scores from the first two sets. ;)
